You can see pixels in a video?
What kind of video did you watch?
The pass through may show artifacts if there’s poor lighting. That has nothing to do with resolution, and it would happen with any device that has pass through.
I watched built-in video for demo. Photos app, TV app. I presume more pixel in Photo app, due to iPhone 15 can shoot now only in 1080p for Apple Vision Pro.

Well, watching a lower resolution video on a high resolution TV will usually show some artifacts and/or pixelization. That doesn’t mean your TV is bad, just that the media you are watching is not good enough.

Does Apple allow you to return the AVP if you have previously bought and returned it once before?

I'm starting to see some YouTubers buy it for the second time after returning it.

Such as this guy:
I don’t see why they wouldn’t accept the return.
And at the same time, I don’t see why you would want to return it again. Well… give it a second try and let us know what your impressions are this second time.
Best wishes!

Thanks! I'm not gonna return mine. Vision Pro isn't perfect, but it is the tech item I bought that felt like something new in very long time. I've heard that some YouTubers are buying the AVP just to post review videos and they don't have any intention to keep it at all.

Have to keep it. Was a gift.

You don’t have to keep it. You can always sell it on eBay or via some other method even if what you’re selling is in an open box or lightly used version. So I’d say unless it’s a present from the wife and/or kids so long as you included them on the proceeds from the sale (perhaps a nice, quick vacation or something to that effect) I’d think that you could still unload it at upwards of $2,000 unless it’s got more damage than some very light scratches, etc

I am still on the fence…

So many compromises and concerns, but I love using it!

Some of my issues:

  • Pass-through is not as good as I expected. I don’t really have any experience with VR, but walking around sometimes makes me feel queasy if I am focused on my surroundings, and not screens I am using.
  • The weight. Comfort - it really is a brick. Some days my neck is sore. Today is one of those days.
  • FOV is poor IMO.
  • Resolution at times is an issue (particularly with text. The MacRumours forum looks awful)
  • Steam / condensation buildup on the lenses if I am remotely hot
  • Dictation regularly stopping itself, although I assume someone will comment that this is fixed in later versions of the OS
  • Virtual display for Mac is not very nice to use. This is one feature I thought I would use all of the time, but I avoid it.
All of this aside, I love spacial computing. I have no doubt it is the future, none at all. I love it. I love being able to work / carry out general computing around the house, take screens with me, be 'in the room' rather than be isolated with my face in a screen, (yes I know, my face is literally in two screens in the Vision Pro). Set up as many displays as I need, multitask, have all the data I need in front of me, positioned exactly as I want it.

Another positive, I am really impressed with the battery life. I easily get more than 2 hours. I haven't timed it, but I would guess I get over 3 hours at least. I also love the gestures…

If I keep it, I am fairly confident I will use it regularly. I am also confident that I will suffer the issues listed above most times I use it. I am not sure if I can live with them, but I think I can. The question is, why should I? Should I have to put up with the above when I have spent £3699? I get this is gen 1 and compromises are to be expected, but I feel at this price we shouldn't be having to make this many compromises, not to this degree anyway.

If the rumours suggested that AVP 2 would be out next year, I would definitely return it. I would rather wait for these things to be ironed out. But if we're talking 2 - 3 years, do I want to miss out on the magic for that long?

One of the great things about buying Apple is resale value. If I keep it and upgrade when the next version is released, what will this be worth? If the upgrade is minor, then it should be fairly high, but if they follow suit with some other products, ie iPad V1 to V2, then I feel the value will plummet, or it may even be difficult to sell.

One day in the future, everyone is going to be horrified that we strapped this thing to our faces... and I am wondering if this is the answer to the question.

I just don't know!

ps. I started typing this on Vision Pro, dictation kept cancelling itself. I switched to Virtual display, my eyes hurt and the keyboard and mouse kept disconnecting. I eventually sat at my iMac to finish off.

I felt the same. What tipped the scale for me was that I wanted to be part of this from the beginning. I knew if I returned mine, I would keep revisiting my decision as every new feature/version came out. I would regret not having one. There is always going to be "the next version" or "the next model" to wait for.

Have you tried visionOS 2.0? I am sure that you can install it and if you still have doubts reset it and return your AVP.

The hardware problems you are having, I have not seen nor remember any posts about them. Give Apple support a call and check if they have had other similar complaints. It could just be your model. The same for the dictation problem.

Would you mind giving details on your thoughts on this? I am interested to know. I can’t install it as I haven’t decided if I’m keeping it yet!
It has a more finished look and feel to it.
  • You can re-arrange the apps on the screen
  • The new Photos app is really nice. It converts your old photos from 2D to 3D. This alone is worth the price of the AVP. You do not want to put it down. You want to see every one of your photos in 3D (its that good)
  • I like the AirPlay mirroring where you can show what you see on a TV or laptop. It is great for showing people what it can do. It even works with apps like Encounter (butterfly/dinosaur).
  • The new hand gestures to bring up the apps and control center.
  • The whole usability/UI is improved. More options to customizing it.
  • It seems to run quicker and have more accurate eye tracking
  • A new beach environment
  • The ability to watch videos in an environment.
  • The mirroring of your computer is larger and sharper
  • ...more
This release justifies the money I spent and the belief that it would only improve in time. I am enjoying it

Go ahead and install it. If you decide to return the AVP, reinstall the standard factory setting.

Thanks for the write up.

I thought I had read that you have to have the developer strap to downgrade back to os 1.0? Or is that if you end up bricking?

You can also downgrade at an Apple Store, though I haven't heard of anyone doing this. visionOS isn't part of Apple's public beta program, and I don't know what would happen if an AVP was brought to the store for a downgrade. Having said that, I'm running 2.0 beta 3 and haven't had any problems.

I decided to keep it because I was thoroughly sold on the concept of spatial computing.

Today I took delivery of the Annapro headband which completely transforms the comfort. I then took the light seal off… and... absolute game changer. The addition of a good field of view makes spatial computing truly amazing.

Anybody on the fence, get one ordered ASAP and try it, you won’t regret it.

I struggled with the decision for a long time because I think the device is pretty cool and can do some functions (such as watching movies) really well.

I don't care that the AVP can't do much at the moment and that there are hardly any applications, because I'm convinced that this will change over time.

In the end, I decided against the AVP and returned the device because it didn't live up to my expectations. I bought the device to be able to work productively with it. Unfortunately, there are three aspects that didn't convince me.
  1. Field of view very small (if you use several spatial screens you move your head more than if you had a real multi-monitor setup).
  2. Screen sharing with significantly lower quality than a monitor that supports hidpi
  3. Comfort over longer work sessions is not good, in particular the eyes become much drier than with a normal monitor.

I may get on board with the next iteration.... In my opinion the AVP is some kind of developer kit, but it is at the moment not ready for the normal consumer market. But I hope that Apple keeps investing in the platform and the device.

My annapro band arrived yesterday as well, one million percent agree. Using this additional headband and without the light seal is a total game changer, especially for Mac external display and multi tasking.

Apple should have multiple options with the head bands and light seals (or no light seal but a bridge of the nose cushion) at POS. This would drastically reduce the return rate IMO.

I’ve been in a panic since I bought it trying to not miss the return window and regret it if I couldn’t cope with the (lack of) comfort. I wish I’d have just taken the risk of losing £30 on the Annapro strap if I’d have returned the AVP in the 14 day return window, and just ordered it on day one.

I’m really excited now to see the resolution and other improvements with Mac display mirroring coming at the end of the year. This will make it the product I got so hyped for last June.

Keeping. I want to see how visionOS develops and how the content ecosystem develops. I can't imagine they just kill the whole product line - it's too impressive of a technology.

I also have not had any issues with the solo knit default band, and weight, etc. I have worn it for 80-90 minutes without any comfort issues., I have a big head though.
