I would buy this if they could lower the price to around 2k and bring entertainment experiences like Netflix, AppleTV etc., outside the screen. It seems like a sitting device for entertainment, but at 5k CAD, it's too expensive only to have it as a TV replacement.

2 hours of battery life with a battery pack. Only Apple can get away with this in 2023.

full
Wait till they sell a 20lb, 30lb and 40lb battery backpack that will be considered weights when doing workouts. Its all part of the healthy lifestyle plan. :p

"The Vision Pro is priced starting at $3,499."
"Given the high price point, there appears to be a single model..."

Apple never uses "starting at" if there is no upgrade option unless, in this case, they are referring to the optical inserts for eyeglass-wearers (which are a separate purchase).

This also means that non-eyeglass wearers interested in saving up for this device may wish to increase their carrot intake immediately. Because if you buy these and then you find out later you need glasses, those Zeiss lenses will cost you even more.
Maybe there are some BTO options outside of the prescription lenses?

Do we know the battery life yet? Im assuming it'll be low and they'll try to sell us on buying more battery packs. Also, I wonder if there will be any screen door type effect with these. Even the high end VR headsets still have it a little bit. I don't see how browsing websites or watching movies will be enjoyable unless the screen door effect is gone completely.

Different storage options are obvious, and I think there was talk of an extended battery pack.

Oh man. If this thing could connect to my Mac Pro and allow me to work with After Effects and Cinema 4D would be a ground breaking experience for me and many designers. What a missed opportunity. Hoping this thing lasts up to a version 2.0 and isn't DOA like the Newton.

EDIT: Many have pointed out that you can indeed view your MAC's screen through the Vision Pro headset (thanks for the heads-up.) I missed that entire section in the Keynote and had to watch that whole section all over again. Oh man! I'm excited now. EXTREMELY excited about this thing for that feature alone.

They said two-hours on their battery. I am wondering if that battery will be included or a $500 add-on.

It’s very innovative as expected from Apple, but no way would I wear one just walking around, opening the fridge, watching the kids play, Lolly-gagging around the house etc.. especially for that price. I guess we’ll see how comfy it is when it’s released..

It's cool and all, but I guess I don't understand who this is for. Rich apartment-dwellers and jet-setters constantly in confined spaces?

Who in the world is going to have this strapped to their head while capturing proprietary 3D photos/videos of their kids, instead of, you know, experiencing it firsthand?

As a VR enthusiast and user, I’m not loving this overall.

Unique pros:
  • extremely high resolution
  • compatibility with iOS and Mac
Cons:
  • $3,500
  • needs to be plugged into the battery or power to work.
    • If my battery is dying, do I need to power down the headset momentarily to switch to a new battery or power source? Never mind. You can charge the battery via USB-C while in use, it seems.
  • unknown whether or not it can stream VR games from PC
At this point, I see myself getting a Gen 2 Meta Quest Pro before even considering this.

To be honest i'm very very happy to see Apple still bothering to make expensive niche devices. Not everything has to be an iPhone, iPad or Air Pod like mass market success. We need innovation and Apple's quality at the highest end if you're interested in it, can afford or want it or not, the mere fact they're still remotely interested in doing these things which will be less than 0.1% of their entire revenue is fantastic.

I think this has amazing potential. Looking at the actual headset minus the fabric parts is pretty slim for a gen 1. Now without that fabric and even smaller lenses, you basically have glasses. I’ll bet we’re not too far from that and I think this will help us as consumers and Apple get there.

That headset looks a LOOONNNGGG way from becoming small enough for glasses. I don't disagree, when these are glasses sized and priced better they will see more traction, but if $3500 only buys you something marginally smaller than a Quest 2 I don't think the technology will be there for several more years.
