Sorry didn't explain fully
I do have a case number and when i phone customer services my case is there and they move me on to the relevant people and when they phone me they know i brought an iPad last week, i have put off anything till 10th Dec to do research and so you can find out any info.
At this point I can't tell if you are a bait or just unable to see the point.

In the first case:
DRAMA. Yeah there are definitely hidden diamonds in your mbp that they want back, and they are trying to steal your NFTs and Cryptos and photos of cats, all while avoiding being sued for a faulty mbp which could explode and make you rich.

Latter:
Just chat with them. You can do it on their website www.apple.com or on the "Support" app for iPhone/iPad. Can you?

Bye.

Either the OP is trolling us or he's ignoring everything we're saying. He isn't replying to our questions so we don't know if he's calling a genuine Apple number or only calling the number that was given to him by the person on the phone.

I'm not going to bother trying to help anymore because it's clear he's just gonna do whatever he's gonna do. Or he's trolling, whatevs.

I had a macbook pro back in 2009 that was fixed a few times at the depot and eventually got captured, it went fairly smoothly (and through my local apple store at the time) and in return I got a newer macbook pro for free. If you go to your local apple store and they pull this up this is legitimate, otherwise it's a scam.

Ok some of you are saying i'm not answering all your questions well i have better things to do.
Anyway i have just contacted an Apple store and Apple customer services with the case number and both said it's genuine and there is an issue with the MBP and has to be exchanged, going to see if i can do a direct exchange in store.

maybe don’t start a thread then.
“Hey I need help!”
Later:
“I don’t need your help, I’ve got better things to do.”
For the record from everything you’ve said, it still sounds like they haven’t given you a *actual relevant concrete reason* they want your mbp.
I’d tell them that you’re not doing anything until they give you a written down email or message, with an actual employees name attached, that specifically says the issue and why they want your computer.
Until then, I wouldn’t do a thing. And when you do take it in, if you have to, I would make sure that it’s completely and totally wiped, erased, empty before handing it over.

At this point it’s almost as if the OP is obligated to update us on this thread when he can just ignore and move on. Wth are you guys thinking? Maybe his initial wording is not clear or whatever but we are not entitled to be updated in a forum like this. Jesus, some of you have no better things to do or believe your “help” is somehow more valuable than others and deserve some sort of payment or what?

This has scam written all over it. Why even go to an Apple Store? If they are sending you a new one just wait for it to come in. When nothing ever shows up you'll know it was a scam.

I have a 2021 16" Macbook Pro M1 purchased in May.
I received a phone call from Apple to say that my MacBook needs to go back and they are sending me a brand new one, wouldn't tell me what's wrong with it and to me it's working fine.
Anybody know what's going on ?
Drama in this thread aside, as an owner of the same machine, if you are able to get an explanation from apple of the exact nature of the issue, it might be valuable for the rest of us to be aware of it.

The simplest way to verify is to contact Apple yourself.
I have now contacted Apple 3 times with the case number and everything is cushty (uk slang for OK)

Ha I mean it’s your own call, but I’d be a bit more difficult and say “I’m not giving you this unless you tell me why.” You own the laptop after all. You technically have the leverage?

You'll want to have AppleCare set up the replacement paperwork at the store, since unless it's within the return window, doing a POS swap at the store might be a change.

And if it's a custom order, they'll have to order you the replacement.

I’m from the UK too, so speaking from experience;

It’s Apple.

They treat the customer like a king and then some. Therefore if they haven’t sent you a replacement macbook before you even have to return the old one then this is almost definitely a scam IMO.

No way in hell would they ever let a customer go any amount of time without their device if it’s something they’ve messed up. Since they’re the ones contacting you, I.E. they messed up something, there should’ve already been a replacement on the way to you so that you don’t go any time without a MacBook while they wait for this one.

Interesting scam

I'm reading a lot of assumptions here. Do I have this series of events correct?
OP called Apple support due to some issue with the laptop (I do believe I read that the OP did?). Troubleshooting was done during that call.
OP then gets a call from Apple advising that they want the original computer back for evaluation and a replacement will be issued. This call being a response to the initial call to support.
OP is either to visit an Apple store to pick up a replacement or have one shipped to them in exchange for theirs.

If the exchange can be verified to be in relation to the support ticket AND Apple is going to replace with an equal or better spec, I see NO issues with this as long as OP is dealing with Apple directly AND the replacement can have the Time Machine restoration or data migration completed before the original needs to be shipped out or handed over.

i didn't see anywhere where they said it was for a known issue that they were complaining about. the whole thrust of their post is that they were prompted to submit their laptop without any explanation given why. to quote:

"...wouldn't tell me what's wrong with it and to me it's working fine."
