Windows 10. Intel Core i9 10900KF (3.5GHz), 32GB RAM, 2 TB of SSD, and a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080. Not vintage.
You missed the important part out which is the motherboard and case, both of which will determine why there is a lack of USBC ports.

What's the motherboard model? I know cheap motherboards tend to omit USBC ports on the rear panel but most mid-range to high-end boards include them.

What's your case?

Doesn‘t matter. No USB-C and I don’t need it on that machine or I’d have made a different choice or added it. And, even if it had it, it’s irrelevant to charging my watch because A) it’s on the other side of the house and B) it’s in sleep mode when I’m not on it.

You seem to be trying awfully hard not to list the make, model or motherboard, which doesn’t help.

So you are saying you had no reason to mention it in these comments?

Whenever you start with “so” you can be sure you’re about to mischaracterize something. As you just did.

I was responding to this: “If you have a recent Mac OR windows PC, you have a USB-C port..” I do. And I don’t.

It is also strange that someone willing to pay for an RTX3080 would complain about having to pay for a USB-C charger.
No stranger than a trillion dollar company saying they’re not including blocks because people have them and then using a USB-C one rather than the A more people likely have.

You bought a Windows desktop without USB-C or Thunderbolt 3/4 in the year 2021? Seriously? Sorry, but that’s just short sighted as hell. USB-A is going away, it may take another 5 years, but eventually it’s gone.

Is it a cult I’m not aware of? The cult of cling to USB-A until the Second Coming? Seriously, people seem proud they have only USB-A cables, like you’re defying Apple. It’s silly, stop it.
If it’s a custom built desktop, you can always add in Thunderbolt/USB-C card later on. It’s one of the perk of building a PC. Take a breath and calm down. 😌

I’m still trying to track down that motherboard that doesn’t have USB-C, so I could use a model number.

Never mind, I did find an MSI Intel board with only USB-A, so I stand corrected, you wouldn’t have had to try as hard as I thought to completely avoid USB-C. My apologies!

Actually, it seems much stranger to me, since USB-C is the newer standard, and that company has been moving to it for years so this change was way overdue. The specs for your PC, however, indicate that you bought a Ferrari with all the options, but apparently had them downgrade the power windows to hand cranks. I’m really am trying to figure it out, because I’m not much of a gamer, but I did make sure my last Windows PC purchase had USB-C so I could use Oculus-Link. Maybe VR has absolutely no appeal to you, but it just seems incredibly strange to intentionally completely leave out the current standard for a communication port on a maxed-out PC, just to stick with a USB-A port that is a quarter century old. That said, somewhere in my collection I have a USB-to-SCSI adapter and a USB-to-Serial adapter, and I have my own obsessions with old technology, so more power to you for keeping these old ports alive!

No, this isn’t about buying a device to get USB-C. Just buy a damn charger. Good grief, why is this so hard for this crowd. Again, this is a forum full of people that considers themselves tech savvy and forward thinking, yet there is a constant stream of caterwauling about buying a damn cable or a charger. Stay in the dark ages, clinging to USB-A for all eternity. Good grief! I’ve had to buy so many cables to get stuff working over the past 42 years, none of this USB-C transition phases me in the least. Black SCSI terminators, yeah, sure, that was a pain. Serial cables could be a pain. ADC to DVI, or MiniDVI to whatever. Well, that was a waste of money since I knew Apple wouldn’t keep using it, but I digress. But jeez, I’ve listened to people bitch about USB-A this and USB-A that for 6-1/2 years. I bought my 2016 MacBook Pro, $50 worth of cables NOT dongles, and I was done. Moved on with my life and my time. Figure it out people!

That's funny - this forum censors "******" (

) but leaves "damn" and "bitch" LOL!

Do the math: At $19 per adapter (that Apple no longer puts in the box) it profits in extra $19 million for every million devices sold.
Because, no one. Absolutely, no one. Has usb-c. At. all.

That is every single Apple watch (which comes bundled with an usb-c cable), individually, will need its own $20 power charger.

It’s not like there isn't pre-existing charging infrastructure from millions of pre-existing customers that can be used. But, of those, that are new Apple watch customers, none of them will have any pre-existing desktop or laptops, with usb-c, that they can use. And, again, of those that do -- none (0%) will consider this a usable option. Because, no one ever will be around their computer, ever. So the convenience of a multi-tap charger to charge all of your things is necessary. Of course, and I can't stress this enough, 100% of these pre-existing portable muti-tap chargers will not have a usb-c socket on it. I mean, its not like there are other usb-c powered devices yet. But, even after all of this, the Apple Watch is special. It is the most mobile of devices. So everyone will want a single individual charger solely for their Apple Watch. Lastly (maybe), it can’t just be any individual usb-c charger. It has to be the Apple usb-c charger because that new slightly faster charging on the latest model is necessary.

So yea, every one million Apple watches sold has to include, in those one million boxes, one million Apple chargers. Because the world would fall apart, otherwise. And by Apple swapping to a usb-c cable to charge the Apple watch (despite everyone wanting usb-c everything) everyone will have to get Apple’s $19 usb-c charger. Clearly, the correct move was to continue to pack in the cable with the legacy end because no one is begging that everything move to usb-c.

Cheeky greedy buggers, for sure!

Customers who order one of Apple's lower-cost Apple Watch SE devices will now receive an upgraded USB-C charging cable in the package, rather than the previous USB-A charging cable.

Apple is changing the cable in the box as it continues to transition away from USB-A and for consistency across the Apple Watch lineup.

The Apple Watch SE will apparently ship with the same USB-C Fast Charger that's available with the Apple Watch Series 7, but fast charging is limited to the new models. Though the cable is the same, the Apple Watch SE will charge at standard speeds.

With the fast charge cable, the Series 7 is able to charge 33 percent faster than with a standard Apple Watch charging puck thanks to new charging architecture that is not built into the Apple Watch SE.

The Apple Watch SE's product page confirms the upgrade and lists the device as shipping with a "1m Magnetic Charger to USB-C Cable" rather than the standard Magnetic Cable that used USB-A. Apple previously had a non-fast charging version of the USB-C Apple Watch cable, but it has been discontinued and is no longer available.

While the Apple Watch Series 7 and Apple Watch SE will ship with a USB-C Apple Watch charging cable, the Apple Watch Series 3, Apple's lowest cost option, still continues to feature a USB-A charging cable.

My SE came with the USB C cable. All my chargers are USB A. But not to worry, I have a couple of A-C adapters which were £1.99 on EBay. I also have a USB A to MagPuck cable and a USB A integrated MagPuck which plugs into my laptop and I can rest my SE on it to charge.

Car has two USB A in the front and two USB C in the back. Not sure why they did this.
