I've had Titanium watches before, one was a Panerai, they seem to show the scratches but strangely, they just seem to heal themselves. Others experiences may vary, but to be honest, if you get a watch for extreme activities, it doesn't matter what it is made of, it will show scratches.

non issue in use wouldn't even notice, did you complain about the iPhone being sharp too when they went to 12 series? We all survived lol
Most people have a case on an iPhone so as you said we all survived. Wearing a case on an Apple Watch is not so wide spread. And I personally find it hideous on a watch.

you don't hold the edges on the ultra it sits on your wrist lol
do you own one?

I mean it is an issue in use as some people have already posted on here. Sharp edges will get dinged.

The iPhone from the 12 onwards have flat sides yes but the metal edges are subtly curved to avoid this. Compare the edges of the Watch Ultra to an iPhone and you can feel the difference.

I own one for now. I like it. But I can tell you I hit from times to times a door frame, table or rubbing it against a wall… a case would help but that is so ugly on a watch. My old SS S5 is still looking brand new though. Will see how my ultra survive my daily life.

I am going to take my ss7 and untra and slam them in a brick wall for 15 minutes. I can already tell you what will be more durable, and if you know, you know lol. The ultra is built to take a licken and keep on ticken. The ss is meant to look pretty.

I had a catalyst case for awhile for surfing in but the strap was too short kept coming undone, will be using the ultra surfing as soon as the surf is good. I didn't buy a Ultra to keep it looking pristine lol
Re sale on watch is pathetic anyway, will be keeping mine till dies.

I'd just add that as the current owner of two Rolex watches and the former owner of quite a few others, all stainless steel case models - which I mention because people here are saying how "durable" stainless steel is - if you wear yyour vaunted Rolex daily you are going to accumulate not just some superficial scratches but actual dents, dings and divots.

If you want a shelf queen, buy a box and toss whatever watch floats your boat into it, never take it out. It'll be "pristine" and "LNIB" but it won't have done anyone any good.
Truth.

My Rolex Explorer and Omega Speedmaster gets way less wrist time than my Apple Watch 7 SB Ti have and yet, they have scratches both of them - my AW looks new. My old S4 SS Apple Watch got as many scratches as the mechanical watches

If you live the same as you did with your ss watch, your ultra will look just fine. It’s not fragile. I am looking forward to a worn patina, but that will take time. I don’t understand how someone could buy an every day watch and expect it to not look worn over time. That doesn’t make sense to me.

Same. I'm sure no one who's the target demographic is concerned about it in the slightest. All the people here who bought it as a show piece are the only ones unhappy.

This is really insane… Apple failed on that part! I know some will tell I over react but please when I pay that much for an Apple Watch said to be premium I do not expect it to be so fragile and not durable…
Titanium watches have been around since the 70s, and many are 10x or more the price of the Apple Watch. They all scratch easily and develop a patina. Apple didn't fail. You as a consumer failed to understand what you were buying.

Can you elaborate on what I am buying?

It’s not a consideration to me, either way. I’d pick lightness over scratch resistance. Plus, regular stainless still gets scratched to heck if you really use the thing (unless DLC coated.)
My stainless steel had scratches on the case of the Watch.

Today I picked up my ultra with trail loop blue / grey would have liked dark grey loop tough but they are out of stock .
First thought - oh my god that is big but on wrist , after an hour or so , I got so used to it. Having used aluminium AW, I never thought I will get so used to the weight , but I think it’s the trail loop that did the trick.
It’s better than any loop I have ever used!
Having used the ultra for few hours now, I can’t look back at 45 mm watch any more .

What exactly is it about the trail loop you like, compared to regular sport loop? Thinking of getting one.

It seems that the consensus (and science) says that the stainless steel gold and black’s coated finishes are the most durable for day-to-day use, while the Ultra’s titanium finish (and seemingly indestructible screen) is durable to more brutal beatings, which is what a more rugged Watch is supposed to do. If you like both designs, it’s simply a matter of the tradeoffs in durability along with functionality that will ultimately be the deciding factor…
