My reaction when I heard that Apple was still working on this.
I don’t think Apple makes doors. You know when in movies they have to cut off somebody’s finger to gain access to a door that has fingerprint scanner, how does that work if the door is controlled by Face ID?
What a daft comment. The article is literally talking about button-less touchID, built into the screen. You want the button back?
They never put new tech in an iPhone SE before. Why would they?I am pretty sure that’s for the next iPhone SE.
stupid question but why is it taking Apple so long to implement this? I have it on my 300 EUR device from work and it is working great. It actually feels strangely satisfying to see the unlock animation on the screen![]()
Thats because they don't have anyone worth a damn in their R&D team and they just hire anyone based on low standards now.Trust Apple to be researching a technology that is on every other phone.
Thanks for the kind reply. What a daft comment. The article is literally talking about button-less touchID, built into the screen.
“It looks like this iPhone has been grabbed. Calling 911 in 10… 9… 8…”Apple should make Touch ID into the Power Button and make it be an option for 2FA. So, you can use it as an alternative when you are in a crowded location when it falls back to pass code. Also, Apple needs to include some kinda sensor that detects a sudden action, if someone grabs your phone to steal it.
I am SO sick of reading MacRumors articles which talk about possible features coming not year but next year, in 2026, the late 2020s, etc...
I miss feeling excited for what is coming THIS year with hardware. And I miss Apple genuinely delighting us with their first-party app updates and significant, decent, relatively bug-free updates to their OSes.
It feels like we're just drip fed incremental updates with a promise/vague hope of more in future years, all while paying more and more for the privilege.
Apple, do better. I've used your products all my life and likely always will but I long for a return to some of the values of the Apple of old.
I missed this feature. It was handy when navigating thru Netflix - for example, press and hold to preview the movie with how many stars or thumbs up/down instead of tapping to go to each page which is too time-consuming.The world wants 3D Touch back on iPhones, please.
To be honest with you. At times, I do miss the classic Home Button. You want the button back?
I'll have what she's having.OMG OMG OMG!!! YES YES YESSSSS!!! A THOUSAND TIMES YESSSSS!!! IT'S HAPPENING YESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!
If FaceID fails, it immediately displays the passcode entry screen. How is that slow to bypass? When FaceID works it’s great, but when it doesn’t it’s rediculously bad. Often it won’t work if part of my face is obscured, which is to be expected. However it’s the experience of getting into the device when it fails, really poor. it will try and try again and is really slow to provide an option to bypass. Even if Touch ID isn’t integrated there needs to be a quicker way to bypass Face ID when it hasn’t worked.
That is the final verification step. What else are you looking for? That's not correct. When it comes to password verification or Touch ID the additional step is one you make affirmatively.
For password verification after I double click the side button, it then asks for a password. I have to type it in.
With Face ID, unless I'm holding my phone away from me when double clicking it verifies the purchase almost instantaneously after the double click.
I agreed with you. When FaceID works it’s great, but when it doesn’t it’s rediculously bad. Often it won’t work if part of my face is obscured, which is to be expected. Just goes back to the lock screen, useless. At least its peace of mind they won't drain my account.“It looks like his iPhone has been grabbed. Calling 911 in 10… 9… 8…”
I have eczema (like many people do) and touch ID/fingerprint scanners are pain. One of the things missing right now on Fold 4 is Face ID. I think that under screen touch ID would work much better than physical one for people with similar skin condition as mine.Apple should make Touch ID into the Power Button and make it be an option for 2FA. So, you can use it as an alternative when you are in a crowded location when it falls back to pass code. Also, Apple needs to include some kinda sensor that detects a sudden action, if someone grabs your phone to steal it.
Yeah, I wonder if it’s somehow related to patents (preventing Apple from doing something similar)?Trust Apple to be researching a technology that is on every other phone.
