It sucks I can't use it, I have epub books I want to sync to my iPad when I get it. If iBooks doesn't come out for 6 months I won't be able to enjoy the whole experience! -- I'm in aus.

In Australia here too, and I'm hoping that the iPad does hit our shores with the advertised "Late April" date. Though I'm sure it will be going out to many other countries before us. Let's hope that we aren't going to miss out on features (e.g. iBooks) any more than we already will (Netflix, ABC apps etc.).

Yeah, I've got a friend shipping me an iPad early though. I'd have liked to be able to spend at least 5 minutes reading on it :p

So April 7th I should have an iPad, unfortunately... iBooks might not be there :/ -- at least I can still buy other iPad apps though!

Isn't there any way to get Ibooks in a way that doesn't involve cheating by lying about your Non-US adress? I mean the app is free, yet we in Europe can't get it... Surely there must be a legal way to get it?

If you set up a US iTunes account, using either a US credit card or get your friend to buy some US iTunes vouchers, you will be able to by iBooks that way. Unfortunately that conflicts with this:

- Complimentary copy of Winnie-the-Pooh by A. A. Milne

This was the first book I had planned on buying from the iBookstore, sweet. my nephew loves the Winnie-the-Pooh books (and so do I), and I read them to him every time I babysit, and when I saw the Bookstore from the guided tour and the lady was reading this book to her 'son', I imagined doing the same.

Saturday is almost here, yay.

Just curious, are you implying I'm cheating by getting my iPad shipped to a friend and then to me?

I'm not interested in setting up a US iTunes account, or any of that stuff.

I can wait I guess, it's a shame though.

It's a shame that the iTunes Store can't just be universal. There is a whole heap of stuff on international stores that I would like, but can't get in the Australian store (and I don't have a US account).

I agree, the iTunes store should be universal, at least most of it. They just don't want us watching US movies before they get here in aus! lol

Another unhappy iPad wanter

Me = another person from australia wanting an iPad on April 3. :( - I'm so crazy that i check the apple australia page has changed from "late april to something else. :apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple:ipad=me wantee. :(:(

I'm all for a universal iTunes Store. It's a shame lawyers get their greedy hands into everything. :p

I guess so. I'm quite enjoying the TV show Chuck at the moment (which my uncle torrents and sends me on disc) and its annoying because I can't watch it on the website (where US viewers can watch the episode the day after airing) and I can't buy episodes on iTunes...I'm forced to wait!

It's not being made available to other countries because there's no publishing agreements in place outside the US yet so it'd be an empty store.

That said, we can import public domain books so it'd be nice to have something to read them on.

I've just downloaded a bunch of iPad apps that I wanted from the UK store but have grabbed iBooks from the US store too... in prep for the UK launch.

Hoping that the the UK Scrabble app (I was amazed it's so different!) gets updated pretty damn quick or I'll be buying the US version instead.

How ridiculous, they couldn't have brought out an iPhone version of iBooks as well???

I just bought an iPhone 3GS and am stuck with Kindle for iPhone right now but it's lame compared to what the iBook app can do...

I sure hope they make it available to the iPhone as they'll get many more book sales with that...

I've been wondering for years just how much money these companies lose on people who would like to pay but don't have the option. Hopefully the publishers are more competent.

I'm in very much the same boat as yourself; and am unsure wether to get myself a US account or not.. What complications does having your iPhone tied to two accounts bring? Is it just having to type two passwords for updates? Or are there other hoops to jump through too?

Given that C&C and Scrabble are missing from the UK store, I can see myself getting a US account anyway; unless they appear soon.

Oh no, not at all. That's not cheating, that's being inventive.
Shame is, I have no American friends.

There is a service, I think its MyUS.com, that will provide you with a real US address and forwards items you bought in the US to your home address. It has a price, but if you need to get things from 'US only delivery companies (like Apple US) then it could be worth looking at.

Very clever of them to include a colourful children's book with the app. Pester-power should guarantee them some more sales, and it's also a great way of showing off the iPad's particular advantages for books.

Sounds like a great service.

The only reason iTunes isn't fully international is the publishing companies - and who cares about them? What a terrible thing you want to do to them: give them money for their products.

I need to figure out a way (it's probably easy) to watch the BBC from the USA.

Honestly, it's not on the iPhone?

Screw Apple, I'll keep using my Kindle for iPhone. Let me know when they actually want my money.

How feasible is it to create a 2nd iTunes account (a US one to go alongside my existing UK account) and have them both on the same Mac?

Along with wanting the iBooks app, I'd also like to grab a few TV shows from iTunes that are unavailable in the UK (and, therefore mean I have to grab them via Torrents). Curious whether this would allow the ABC app to run over here too?

Seriously - you want to read a novel on a screen the size of a postage stamp? That's simply a nonsense statement.
