still angers me to see that mouse. i keep it out of sight

And it belongs out of sight just like many other Apple attempts at a computer mouse, like the terrible hockey puck style one from the first iMacs or the Mighty Mouse with its scrollball that would attract dust and dirt and stop working within days.

would have made more sense to use the magnet to hold it on the device but have it charge the phone through actual contacts to make it more efficient. I am sure they could easily make a couple contacts adequately waterproof to not have a negative effect on anything by doing it that way.

people with wallet cases on their phones be like 🌽 when someone mentions magsafe.

i cant charge through my credit cards, sadly, but at these charging speeds i might as well continue traveling with a regular battery. not that i ever travel anymore...

Do the Googles my friend. I don't mind the speeds but I don't want a large pack stuck to my phone. 5000mah battery pack is pretty thick.
I don't know....we used to do that with that on the old Nokia 2110. It was a choice of battery capacity and the biggest battery almost doubled the thickness of the phone. it added about 3/4" on the back.

So you want a circular port perpendicularly placed against the flat back of your iPhone? Na-uh, that’s not it.
1. ...
2. You defined a solution I didn't say and then claimed it wouldn't work without giving any justification.
3. Adding data to the existing MagSafe adapter would be an improvement over the physical port because it would drastically lower failure rates.

I think I'll try my luck with some AliExpress offerings.
Don't! I bought one couple months ago and I just threw away. It got dangerous hot while at 80% and can't charger over 80%. When I woke up at morning, I burn my hands.

"Qi-based wireless charging is not efficient"

I hadn't really looked into this before, but the evidence is pretty stark. 47% more energy needed for Qi charging? SHEEEESH. Hope this gets better. Billions of devices needing 50% more energy to charge because we want to do it without cables?

Oh, and the Qi chargers consume power just sitting there. Time to re-think my own use of these things.

I had my MagSafe charger attached to my 26000 mah anker battery pack. It drained my MagSafe charger over time. Albeit slowly but yah even without charging it drains lower.

I would think that a wired port would be more reliable than a wireless one.
Definitely. A wired charge also uses less energy, makes the phone less hot, and most importantly (for me) it is much faster. Even though I find the 'wireless' MagSafe puck stupid, I do like the idea of this wireless battery pack, though. Might get one for emergencies. 👍

Isn't the issue here with the poor strength of the IP12's magnets? I read all the time complaints about the wallet attachment falling off, something heavier like a battery would be much worse I would think.

I have the MagSafe Wallet and it holds just fine. That's the thing with magnets. They hold up to a certain point and then they don't. Where that point is is where Apple can't win. Having them the strength they are, somebody's gonna complain they aren't strong enough. Make 'em stronger and somebody's gonna complain they're too hard to pull off. Not gonna make everybody happy so the whiners take to the internet.

Best thing about this is being able to use it for several generations which is where previous battery cases sucked

Can’t say I’ve ever had an issue I think the problems are people trying to make them fall off and not being careful when it’s in your pocket

I think for 99 for a such a small battery, i have concerns with it. If this was 20 dollars or even 30 dollars. I would be willing to pay the apple tax but I don't see much value when there are other products like it which have a bigger capacity as well as the same charging output.

I speak from zero experience, I just keep reading about complaints that the wallet falls off if, for example, you slide the phone into your front pocket. I'll have to get out to an Apple store one of these days to personally test it. From what I understand, although it is probably just rumor, Apple is supposed to be increasing the magnet power on the 13's.

1. Don't call people names.

1. I didn't call anyone a name. If you took offense to 'chief' ( I didn't mean it as anything durogatory just as a leader like a captain), sorry you misinterpreted my meaning.

2. I didn't define any solution - either you or someone suggested a mag-safe-3.5mm headphone jack. nice try pinning a solution/justification on me though ;)

3. was there any mention in the post I quoted regarding adding data? I didn't read that. It would be a great idea. I don't think many would think data (other than sound) transfers through a 3.5mm headphone jack though.

I am not looking forward to a Port free iPhone. I understand that Lightning is aging and could be on the way out, however I feel it would be better for Apple to invest in USB-C and advance the waterproofing / robustness of that standard as opposed to dropping all ports.

The lossy nature of inductive charging, and added thermal stress on batteries / components is not something I am looking forward to.
I also don't want to rely on bluetooth for all audio everything. I'd still rather they brought the headphone jack back too to be honest. But that will never happen.

Ordered yesterday with a 2m lightning cable, cable delivered today, delivery for my Magsafe Battery bank is due between 23rd - 27th July.
Will be using it with my iPhone 12 mini then iPhone 13 later in the year.
