Apple canceled my order… Hope this is not a mainland exclusive item! 😭

“Thank you for your recent order of the MAGSAFE BATTERY PACK.

Due to regulations that went into effect on 1 April 2016, governing the shipment of stand-alone lithium-ion batteries, we are unable to ship your order to Hawaii.

This item has been canceled from your order and you have not been charged. If you made a cash payment, we’ll issue a check within three to five business days.

All other items on your order are not affected.”

So the iPhone can charge up the battery via reverse wireless charging...but can the battery itself be charged via a magsafe puck? Or does it only work that way with the iPhone?

I bought a similar charger in the spring from Amazon, and I must admit, it's super convenient. The magnet isn't the strongest, but it does stay in place better with a case on. Still, it will stay on naked too.

The only downside to the one I have is it doesn't seem to charge the phone past 80%.

Of course I ordered Apple's. Looking forward to greater iOS integration with it.

What is that even supposed to mean?
I think that comment was written back in March before Apple had launched the Magsafe battery pack (where Macrumors just updated an existing post rather than a new one)... and I suspect it was with reference to Apple's failure to launch their previous wireless charging devices.

Re the battery pack itself, I am surprised Apple hasn't given any indication or expectation on how much extra usage a normal user might expect. I'm waiting for reviews to see how effective it is at connecting/charging for those with various cases. I'm interested, but I also have quite a few other battery packs which are working great and have integrated cables so am not sure if I need another one given I don't go out that often with lockdowns!

You have now….

I’ve had the lightning port on two phones fail. Visually they looked fine and all clean, but I assume the connection inside the phone failed from the stress of plugging and unplugging over the years.

I was relieved when I got a phone with wireless charging. At least if the port goes my phone doesn’t become a paperweight without a repair.
We found the unicorn! 2 lightening ports failed? I’ve had dozens and never had that happen.

I honestly pray for the time we can go back, and have phone's where the rear of the phone will unclip.
Then the opportunity exists to simply make thicker clip-on entire rear back's to the phone to take a larger battery.

You could then have super slim, medium and thick phone rear panels and choose the one which best suits your wishes/preferences.

It's so easy to do, and has been done in the past.
It's a shame customers no longer have this option.
You should design one and try to sell it to the masses. I’d be happier to read about that than whining from people.

There are a bunch of wireless charging power banks with MagSafe compatibility in the market, and they are cheaper and feature more capacity.

Battery life is awful on the 12. Not iPhone 6s bad, but nowhere near XR good. Hopefully the 13 will solve our battery woes.

Add a magnetic connector to the back of the iPhone, problem solved. The KISS engineering a dead concept.

Seems pretty good for mini users who have the least battery life on their devices, not so much for 12 or max users.

Sir, the article itself was posted on March 5. Doubting Apple can make the MagSafe or it may end up taking years and years to develop it just like AirPower, or it may never happen.

Therefore, the comment was reflecting to the back date. I really don’t know how to explain it to you. Just have to respect the comment. 😐

This is all just wired inductive charging to me. The wireless charging in my mind is like the "wireless internet" which was a huge step up from the "wired internet". If wireless charging is as wireless as wifi, it will gain much more tractions. All being safe, that is.

If you think inductive charging is wireless then the microwaves are also wireless, and the electric toothbrushes are wireless too.

people are already throwing away their iPhone battery cases because they don't fit on the new phones.
with a battery magsafe, it'll likely work for the next 5 iPhones.

cost of building one battery case and shipping it to the customer probably equates to thousands of kWh lost.
Nah. Apple will either move magnets around or design future phones so the battery just doesn't quite fit, and require you to buy a new battery with the new phone. Like they do with cases. That is the modern Apple way.

If it was Apples way they would ditch the lightening port altogether.

I would think that a wired port would be more reliable than a wireless one.
You would think. In my experience, it's not. I have replaced most of my devices with magnetic detachable cords because it drastically decreases the failure rate.

Now, to be fair, I don't really care if it's the port or the cable that fails. Either it works or it doesn't. Sure, I'd rather the cable fail over the device, but when the battery is empty or the music won't play it doesn't matter what's at fault.

I have never had MagSafe or Qi fail on me. And I have never had an issue with hearing on Bluetooth.

nah.
they'll remove the port on the iPhone which would encourage you to buy MagSafe chargers/accessories. more than enough extra revenue for the next billion of iPhones sold.

then they'll make MagSafe 2 with stronger magnets. people with MagSafe 1 will upgrade.
