Bumping this old thread. Unless I've missed anything to the contrary, can we assume that continued radio silence on the iPhone 12 (Pro/Max) Smart Battery Case means that it simply isn't happening, and I need to look elsewhere for a portable battery pack?

I bet the battery pack from Apple will be released during the next iPhone rollout.

I have the anker magnetic pack. I really like it. Haven’t found any full on cases that I like. Any plugs on brands with full on cases?

A 1460mah is terrible. Factor in energy losses and this will be closer to 1000mah. Which is like 40% on the Mini. At 99?m dollars? No thanks. Way better options out there.

I don't like the idea of all these expensive magnetic accessories attached to the outside of my iPhone. Seems like they would be easy to lose.

What I want to know is if the iPhone 12 line is capable of reverse charging, why can't I use it to charge my AirPods?

while I have been through many lightning cables, I have never experienced a "port issue" on an iPhone more iPad, and do not recall that people have reported issues here on MR (but I could be wrong about that).
While I currently charge wirelessly, I regular plug my phone into my Mac for the old fashioned iTunes backup ...

FWIW? I think my iPhone XS Max is currently having "port issues". It's recently started refusing to charge when a Lightning cable is attached. I typically have to flip it around and re-seat it firmly to get it to start charging, and any slight left/right pulling on the cable or connector immediately breaks the connection again. Same issue no matter what Lightning cable I use with it.

So you get the added benefit of more battery but now minus the protection of a case? Seems like a step backwards to me. Also with a case you’ll never lose connection, with Magsafe your phone could easily stop charging. PROGRESS!!!

You can use a MagSafe case, which also should work quite well in maintaining the charging connection.

Sounds like a bad purchase for the iPhone 12 Pro Max. You pretty much need to have it attached all day for a minor charge. In fact I am pretty sure you get more out of a 5 minutes quick charge session than having this attached for half the day

Ok, I might end up getting this because although I like the amount of power the Mophie one has, I’ve been using it the past couple weeks and the flashlight icon has been going grey. That means overheating.

All of that inefficiency... Would rather it attach with MagSafe and plug in via the lightning port on the phone. The wireless aspect would be great if you could charge your phone from an outlet or something and have your phone wirelessly charge the battery pack while it's still attached.

Or if you wamted to use a plug in accessory ( wired headphone dac etc) while charging from said battery

You can use it with MagSafe cases. I think even regular cases too, but it won’t hold as well.

No one abbart from the influencers how would slaughter the phone fir being thick.as annoying as it is the external battery case it realy the best compromise , it gives said influencers athin/ light phone to review, and it gives the oeople who need/want a bugger battery that option without app,e having to carry even more skus fir the same generation kf phone. And afded bonus is that when the internal battery inevitably starts to loose caoacety thouse ho want jt can avoid a costly repair by just getting said case, no need to wait for a repair ( not evryone lives clies by an apple store/ authorised repair shop.

Honestly, it seems like they should just add some contacts to the back of the phone and keep the magnets. I don't see what "wireless" is really adding here other than slower charging and reduced efficiency.

You have now….

I’ve had the lightning port on two phones fail. Visually they looked fine and all clean, but I assume the connection inside the phone failed from the stress of plugging and unplugging over the years.

I was relieved when I got a phone with wireless charging. At least if the port goes my phone doesn’t become a paperweight without a repair.

I’ve had to replace iPads for both of my parents because of the lightning port going to crap. Never had a problem on phones, and they could’ve probably kept using the iPads if they had some sort of wireless charging. But they don’t.

I've never had an iOS device port 'go to crap' despite using dozens of them over the years. I have noticed that the people that complain about this seem to be the same users that pay zero attention to how much stress is being placed on the cord and/or port when it's plugged in.

How is it any easier to lose a magnetic battery pack than any other battery pack?
