Has anyone tried to use Magsafe and lighting to charge their phone at the same time?

while I have been through many lightning cables, I have never experienced a "port issue" on an iPhone more iPad, and do not recall that people have reported issues here on MR (but I could be wrong about that).
While I currently charge wirelessly, I regular plug my phone into my Mac for the old fashioned iTunes backup ...

Any port can fail to be honest. My last two iPhones had broken/worn out ports.

Is Dan from MacRumors going to make a video, complaining it keeps falling out of his pants? :p

Between MagSafe, Qi, and BT I rarely find myself using the port. For me, it's just another point of failure. I'd rather see a MagSafe 3.5mm and MagSafe USB C adapter.
I use it often. The reliable connection to my car versus Carplay wireless, and for my camera or card readers. Wireless transfer of 13Mb+ RAW files is not possible from Cannon applications I use, and even the JPEG version is far too slow.

Since I charge my phones (at home) using Solar to an inverter, I am not interested in the lossy nature of Qi as compared to wired charging.

To each their own, but I want ports, and I really want USB-C since so many of my devices have that now.

A smaller iPad like “smart connector” with MagSafe characteristic on the back would be very nice, port-less AND efficiency with charging & data transfer speed.

Thank you Apple, you can send me my money now 😅
I had a working prototype of this concept in 2016 and made some updated renderings for when the iphone 12 came out😅

The lighting port on my iph6+ is thrashed. Busted internal spring clip. No it's not lint (I've examined it closely with a magnifying glass).
I’ve had to replace iPads for both of my parents because of the lightning port going to crap. Never had a problem on phones, and they could’ve probably kept using the iPads if they had some sort of wireless charging. But they don’t.

So you get the added benefit of more battery but now minus the protection of a case? Seems like a step backwards to me. Also with a case you’ll never lose connection, with Magsafe your phone could easily stop charging. PROGRESS!!!
Wrong.
You can have your cake and eat it too.
This magsafe battery will work with most magsafe compatible drop cases (like the Mous 4.0 , PhoneRebel Series gen 2 ot latest Rugged Nomad cases etc etc)

I honestly pray for the time we can go back, and have phone's where the rear of the phone will unclip.
Then the opportunity exists to simply make thicker clip-on entire rear back's to the phone to take a larger battery.

You could then have super slim, medium and thick phone rear panels and choose the one which best suits your wishes/preferences.

It's so easy to do, and has been done in the past.
It's a shame customers no longer have this option.

iPhones typically live on the couch, rub against blankets or pants so lint gets in the charging port. Scrape the port out with a wooden tooth pick and after a minute or so you'll see dense cotton gunk coming out. You'll notice a snappier "click" then plugging in the charging cable in immediately. And reliable charging again.

I'm assuming that it works through Apple's MagSafe-capable case. If not, that's disappointing.

While I would normally balk at the inefficiency of wireless charging being silly for a portable battery pack, this could be nice for those who need extra juice on the go but refuse to use wireless headphones. Or perhaps "audiophile" types who prefer corded quality.

Otherwise, it's just sort of gimmicky.

If Apple makes one, it would be geared toward max efficiency, not speed. You do not need speed as the pack goes where the phone goes. Just hope Apple’s implementation will be better than third parties. 🤞
