I have the 9.7 pro and if I did upgrade, would probably just do the 10.5. The 11 is so nice but that price tag and with AC+ and the keyboard, that’s as much as a MBP. I mainly just use mine for web browsing, watching videos, multi tasking, etc but nothing processor intensive unless I play a game here and there. Don’t think that extra $150 is worth it unless I’m going to take advantage of those new features.

I usually keep my ipads a few years, although I did own all generations of the iPad mini and went from the air to the air 2. However I kept my air 2 for 2.5 years.

I’ll keep my 10.5 for at least another year.

I paid £1,038 for my 256 GB 10.5 with the ASK, Apple Pencil and Apple care. I’d probably only get about £300 if I sold it all now.
That's awfully little. I'd think a 256gb 10.5 would fetch you at least $600, which should be more than £300 if I am thinking straight.

Nope. Have a 2017 512gb 10.5 cellular IPad Pro, and getting the new 11 inch cellular 1tb next week.

Can’t wait till next week edge to edge display and Face ID.

Not seeing this as a big advantage compare to the iPhones, where small bezels and FaceID makes more sense. You need some kind of sturdy grip to hold a heavier iPad without having your fingers cover the display. TouchID seems also more useful, because you are often not looking straight to the camera if the tablet lies on a desk.

There is no weight advantage for the new iPads, especially if you take the new heavy double sided covers/folios into consideration.

If it cost you £1038 then it still costs £1038 new. You should be able to sell it for £700-800ish IMO.

£281 is the best I could get for it from a place like gazelle or swapa in the uk.

£47 for the ASK and £35 for the pencil.

It actually cost more now as when I bought my iPad Pro from Apple it was £709 but Apple put the prices up on everything post Brexit and it’s now £769.

I could sell it privately and get more money for it but I prefer to sell it to a recycling company as it’s far less hassle and risk free.

Definitely sitting it out. First gen new Apple designs are rarely good purchases because the next gen will fix any issues found in the first gen product.

For me as a 12.9" 2nd gen owner, the pros and cons of the new iPad Pro would be:
+ Size and weight.
+ New SoC. Don't need it at all but it's nice to have.
+ FaceID. I love it on my iPhone XS.
- Price. It's about 300 euros more than my 2nd gen with the same specs.
- My first gen Apple Pencil won't work with it. New one is a lot more expensive.
- I can't use the same charger/cable for my iPhone and iPad or need to use a USB-C to Lightning adapter.
- No headphone jack.
- Not sure if the more angular edges will make it less comfortable to hold.

+ Size and weight. > Bezels are useful on a heavier tablet. The weight is even more as before together with this double sided cases/folios
+ New SoC. Don't need it at all but it's nice to have. > The A10X with the same 4GB RAM is more than powerful enough for the limited amount of available demanding pro apps.
+ FaceID. I love it on my iPhone XS. > Not so good for tablets. You have to look straight to it which is often not the case with tablets.

Will let you know how it goes next week, but a 5.9mm iPad Pro with Face ID instead of Touch ID is something I have been waiting for since the iPhone X launch and the 1tb ssd is just gravy.

Just wished they released a gold variant but will make due with the slate gray.

Still have to decide between the 11 inch or 12.9 inch

I’m not upgrading.

I have a 10.5, which is really excellent already. Plus I have the Apple Smart Keyboard, Apple Pencil, Apple Smart Cover and Apple Leather Sleeve. None of those extras are compatible with the new iPad, so I’d at the very least need the new Folio Keyboard. With a new iPad, that’s £999 for the cheapest option.

As impressive as the new iPad is, there are things that put me off. Notably the USB-C. I like the fact that when travelling I currently only need one cable for my iPhone and my iPad. With the new one I’d need two, and the USB-C is quite bulky.

I’m also sticking with my iPhone 8+. The XR is nice, but I’d be throwing money away to get one.

The only upgrade I’ve done this year is to the Apple Watch 4, which does feel like a significant improvement.

Also, Apple is on some insane mission to see just how high they can crank up the prices before people finally say “no”. Adding LTE to the new iPad is now ridiculously costly. No thanks.

A gold colour would give me an incentive to upgrade as my 10.5 is rose gold.

I am curious about your experience! I am still hesitant spending €2500 for the full package new iPad 12.9. This is already MBP territory....It is always wise to skip at least one generation....(especially if it's a new generation)

I have both the current 10.5 and 12.9 models @ 256GB. I was considering upgrading bother and possibly the new Mac Mini - had budgeted around £3k for all three. On the new model pricing, I couldn't get all three on that budget and that is before we consider a new pencil, cases, SD and HDMI adapters etc.
I'm now going to wait a week for reviews and see if the 256GB models are coming with 6GB RAM before deciding if I will upgrade even one of them but at this moment it is looking like I will skip this iteration.

The weight is about 60 grams less for the Wifi+Cellular 12.9" model when I checked. It's not much but it's something. I have used only the smart cover because I didn't want a keyboard or folio case adding extra bulk considering I mostly use the tablet in portrait on my lap.

FaceID remains to be seen but that is a fair point as I sometimes have to tilt my iPhone a bit for FaceID to register.

I bought a 10.5 about 2 months ago. Too late to return (not that I would anyway). I knew this was coming and did worry that I would regret the purchase. However, I love the 10.5. Do I like the bigger screen??? Yes, maybe a little but not enough. Face ID...not keen. USB-C.... actually that would help me. Although I have loads of lightning accessories, I find I am getting more USB-C things as well.
The 2 things I wish Apple would bring to the older iPads are
1. Folio smart keyboard (I don't like the ASK as it leaves the back exposed and is clunky to operate)
2. New Pencil. The original is great, but the charging method sucks (why was that ever considered a good experience) and tap would be useful.

Neither of those two features are worth the upgrade.

I never charge my pencil on the iPad. I bought one of these to connect to my wall charger/ lightening cable.

Looks like there is no Smart Cover any more. The new double sided Smart Folio would weight a lot more than the existing Smart Cover. Assuming it weight double as much as the 155 grams for the existing SC this would compensate the 60 grams weight advantage easily...

The new iPad pros are beastly, the only thing they are lacking are apps to take advantage of that hardware, which should be incoming by March or April of next year and Xcode by June. Until then it’s going to be a great tablet.

By this time next year the MacBook will be running native iOS apps. Mojave already runs a couple of iOS apps but apple should allow developers to sell native iOS apps for the Mac, photoshop and autocad are already on the way.

Absolutely. I have too much invested in the 256GB 10.5 LTE and peripherals (pencil, ASK, cases/covers, HDMI adapter, SD card reader, chargers & cables) to consider a full reload with higher prices to boot.

Definitely sitting this one out. Absolutely love my iPad Pro 10.5 LTE 512GB w/pencil. Especially since it’s paid off.

Hope that plays out as you think. But assuming your time table the next generation of iPP in 2019/2020 should be early enough...

So there goes that advantage as well. Apparently all because they no longer have that magnetic thing at the side for a cover to attach to and to cover the bigger camera bump that is there only because they just had to make it unnecessarily slim.

I dont see any need to upgrade my 10.5, I don't think the new model will let me do anything I cant do already and using a different cable to my phone, no headphone jack and no touch ID would make a lot of things I use it for more convoluted.

As a teacher using it in the classroom being able to unlock the ipad and touch ID secured mark book while not looking at it is very useful.

....and because of that they even crippelt the camera and left out OIS.

I switch when my current 12.9 iPads are too slow for the tasks I do. I expect that will take awhile. I could also swiitch if they made a 15 inch “desktop” iPad.

Apple is on a quest to subtly **** up every one of their beloved products it seems. I think I posted somewhere several months ago that I fully expect Apple to mess up the iPad, which for a long time has been one of their best devices with no real drawbacks.

They already took the Macbook Pro from "best laptop ever made" to "my next machine won't be a MBP" for me with the **** keyboard, useless Touchbar, dongle hell and unnecessarily large trackpad.

The new iPad Pro seems like a raw deal with the increased price, lack of headphone jack and no OIS for the arguably not so often used camera, no lightweight smart cover, no backwards compatibility with Apple Pencil etc. So much for buying into the Apple ecosystem.

Not budging this year I have a generation 12.9, I really was hoping for inductive charging LOL
