I', certainly sitting this one out, I am still in love with my 12.9 iPad and it's still works just fine. Yeah the new was is super cool and I can't wait to transition from my iPhone 7 Plus to an X-Style phone and also an X-Style iPad, but I know that I don't need it now.

But yeah, I'd rather get a new iPad than upgrade from my 7 Plus to an XS Max.

I own both 2nd gen iPad Pros and I’m not very tempted to upgrade. The performance is so good that I can’t see the A12X making much difference in normal everyday tasks. And having lived with the IPX I’m really not sure about losing the home button on the iPad. As someone who has been 100% iPad for the last year (because my MacBook died) I’m really not sure how well it’s going to work holding a tablet two-handed and constantly having to swipe up for basic navigation. Of course with any shiny new Apple product I always feel some urge to buy one...

I’ll probably cave when I see one in person . But my 10.5 is doing well. Apple trade in doesn’t take much sting out of the price.

Selling on eBay is also not getting reasonable price. I would probably wait.

Are you sure? I just checked what my wife's 10.5" 64GB WifI+4G iPad Pro would fetch on eBay, they sell for around AU$800-900. That's down about 30% from the original price of AU$1179. I find that quite reasonable for a superseded device.

Definitely. My 10.5” still runs as well as they day I bought it. All the new stuff on the new iPads are cool, but, unlike with phones, I don’t feel the need to upgrade iPads every 1-1.5 years. I also am trying to use my devices for longer now to get more use out of them, stop being so wasteful, and save money. I plan on using this 10.5 until it’s too annoyingly slow to use or it dies. Also, I don’t even come close to using the full amount of power it has, and while the new iPads seem more flexible when it comes to hardware, it’s still limited to the same software. I’m more interested in seeing where the
iPad and Mac lines will be in 3-5 years, and I’m happy to use my 10.5 until then.

I just checked again iPad Pro 10.5 256gb WiFi model is selling for $579 which is an open box unit/like new. With all accessories and seller is giving 1 year warranty.

Nope, but I’ve made sure I’ve a good reason not to. Or at least, good enough.

My 10.5 iPad Pro which I bought last year, mainly to see if I could cope with the smaller screen again, because the smaller footprint would be better for me (I couldn’t), so that and it’s accessories got donated to the wife, because she’s always nicking my iPad Pro to draw.

Which left me with my 1st gen 12.9. Which, to be fair actually does still serve me well. Aside from occasional issues with it due to my nerve damage. I would probably be keeping it if not for the new one having a reduced footprint.

Beyond the power, FaceID, USB-C, generally nicer styling (subjective,) and anything else. For me it’s the fact that it’s a decent amount smaller and almost 100g lighter than my og 12.9 Pro. That was definitely the clincher.

Me wanting the new one was just a happy coincidence, honest :D

Undecided. I live in a small town and the nearest Apple store is 2hours away, so I ordered one and Ill decided whether or not to keep it before the return window ends. If it was just between my 10.5” and the 11” then would definitely not upgrade. However, I really like the idea of a smaller form 12.9 and all the initial impressions about how comfortable is to hold has gotten me wanting to see for myself.

It will not be lighter if you need a case (folio) with the 12.9. The difference is actually only about 60 grams, and the lightest Smart Case for the Gen 2 12.9 weights 155 grams. The new folio is double sided, so it could weight double as much. So the 60 gram difference will be easily compensated....

Literally everything is improved with these new iPad Pros.

Face ID is just another benefit.

Watch the event video. You'll be blown away by the capabilities of these new iPad Pros.

For the real work with the tablet there are not many new "capabilities". The improvements with the gen 2 iPP like ProMotion, True Tone, P3, more Storage are more important to me than FaceID and smaller bezels....

I love my 10.5" Pro, but the mechanical home button makes it feel substantially older than the rest of the overall tech/capabilities. Of course that's no reason to spend $800+ on a new one, but I think the overall experience will be substantially different.

My 10.5" iPad probably gets more use that my iPhone + iMac + MacBook combined. So it's not a hard decision for me to upgrade.

The iPad Pro is a very expensive device which should last you at least a few years. You get Apple products because their update policy is so great and "older" devices work great after a few years. Buying a new device every year is kind of a first world thing and in my opinion a bad habit. I still use my iPhone 6S and it works great. Keeping products for a longer time is better for your bank account and more environmentally friendly.

But nowhere near as much fun :D

Seriously though, it’s a good point and it’s one of the reasons I decided to keep my iPhone X and not get the Xs Max. As much as the larger screen draws me in.

But there’s nothing wrong with my X, it does everything I need so it’ll do for another year or two at least.

Upgrading to the 2018 iPad Pro is, for me, a usability improvement. Smaller and lighter than my og 12.9 will definitely be a quality of life improvement. You’d be surprised the difference such a small change can make when you’ve got severe nerve damage.

If not for that, I’d be keeping the iPad Pro I have, it’s not as if I’m hitting any barriers with it, it does what I need it to.

But it will go to a good home, so someone else can continue to get good use of it. After me having it since 2015.

Read this whole thread.
I might actually keep my Ipad Air from 2013. It does what I want it to do for now..
IF I upgrade I would probably go with the 10.5 which I should be able to scoop up for a decent price.

an Apple Pencil I use a lot which (not sure about this) I think won’t work with the new iPads.
The new iPad pencils will not work with the old iPads and visa versa, in fact no peripherals, afaik, are backward compatible.

Undecided but leaning towards no. I have the 1st gen Pro 12.9 and 9.7 and use the Smart Keyboards a lot - they’re basically laptop replacements for me which I use to travel for work, using MS office and Remote Desktop. I also use the pencil for marking up docs, but not that frequently.

I love the lack of camera bump on the 12.9 that lets me lay it flat when using and cant BELIEVE its still there on the pros. On iOS 12 it runs as fast as the day I got it, no issues there. This iPad usually stays at home because its just a little to big. I’m very tempted by the smaller size, which should make it much easier to carry around. I also very much like the True Tone on my phone and 9.7” and would like that. I am however, paranoid about faceID and th potential long-term damage to eyes, if it had touchID through the screen or something like I’d probably upgrade without a thought but thats obviously not happening.

I was hoping to pick up the 10.5 cheaper once the new models were released as while i like the 9.7 and it’s great for travel, its a bit too small for a laptop replacement, e.g., smaller keyboard and smaller for splitscreen. By no means is it horrible though. However the lack of a price drop and the huge thread talking about the white spot that shows up on the screen after about 12 months which looks like a design flaw is holding me back. The 9.7” is also as fast as the day I got it.

So I’ll probably end up using both until the give up the ghost, but we’ll see.

I have a 10.5 inch that I’m starting to use more and more, and feel like the extra resolution of the 12.9 would be perfect for desk use, not sure how the new 12.9” form factor will be in the bed / bag compared to a 10.5. I did upgrade to a XS Max, and feel like a better combination would of been the regular sized XS, and a bigger tablet. First world problems at it’s finest, or I wait out another year and hold on to my 10.5 with ASK and Pencil 1.0

The prices blew me away so I'll keep my 10.5, an excellent device.

Pricing is irrelevant. Experience is what matters. These new iPad Pros deliver the best iPad experience yet with incredible performance, near bezel-less design, stunning liquid retina displays and improved portability.
