That’s terrible.
After cracking the glass on the back of my iPhone X, I learned my lesson and picked up apple care for my iPhone X’s max this year.

Mathematically speaking, I'm still way ahead by NOT getting Apple Care. I've owned iPhones for 10 years without damaging one. If I had paid for Apple Care all of those years (or at least as long as they offered it), I probably would have paid for more than an entire phone by now. But, if I'm getting clumsy in my later years, perhaps I should consider it

I'd like to ask a general question. Outside of starting at 128GB, what features should the new IPP have to continue the innovation everyone wants to see? And what should that starting price be? No one ever has a detailed answer when I ask. And I mean features that mainstream people would use.

I got it on my MBP for the purpose of replacing my battery sometime in 2021. And also in my mind I spent $3000 on the computer so it doesn't cost that much to protect it. On the IPP im getting it for the same reason. I have it on the watch cause its just $50 and no one can "fix" a watch I paid $600 for. And the off chance either gets damaged as well. I did not get it on my 7 Plus or iPhone X. I plan on getting it for my next phone because I will buy it outright.

EDIT: AppleCare needs to be extended to 3 years on all eligible products. Apple is tripping.

What do you consider "mainstream people"? That could be one reason why no one has given you a detailed answer yet.

Hi! When I say mainstream people I mean the people who visit Apple stores with product issues and have no idea how to even do the basic functions their products allows for.

If you feel that doesn't apply, could you please give me an answer based on what you feel does? Thank you.

Thanks, that definition helps a bit.

Given that definition of mainstream people, the answer: nothing.

There are no additional features or innovations that those mainstream people want to see. I question that they would even care about 128GB storage being the entry level.

They surf the web, check email, do Facebook, take/send/receive photos, Facetime, online shopping and banking. All of those things are easily and competently done on the current 2018 iPad... and even older devices as well.

I agree. Might be giving this to a family member. I’d rather not sell it since I paid 700 dollars for my iPad Pro 10.5. Rather watch someone I love enjoy it then get ripped off.

I'm in total agreement. Trading in my 10.5 was something I was thinking about. But when I look at the resale value I gasp! I also don't like the hassle of a private sale for a little better return. Gazelle and other companies really offer a "low ball" price when you check out what they are selling the "same" iPad for when they turn it around.

Better to pass it on to my spouse or kids. Merry X-Mas! I'll buy a new colorful case to spiff up the re-gift ;)

Hoping so. Though to be fair, it’s not really noticeable on it and more so on the X and XS. Not a huge dealbreaker as the screen technically is the same display as the 12.9.
True, downloading HDR 4K movies from ITunes to my IPad is amazingly slow with the huge files. But it is noticeable but not a deal breaker.

I have a 10.5 and I'm going to wait. The new USB-C port will not benefit me at all and would only be a pain with my current situation. The other new features (re: pencil and keyboard) don't really benefit me either. So yeah, I'm good with the 10.5.

The "a 12.9 inch screen on a device just a bit bigger than the 10.5 inch" thing is admittedly somewhat appealing, though I'd have to see it in person.

Indeed. Just hoping the 11" isn't going to feel small or the same size. I remember what happened when I got the X, it felt so much smaller than my iPhone 7 Plus. Though I hardly think that's going to be the case, and the 12.9 is still going to feel too big if they didn't like it previously. It's only a half inch shorter than the previous model.

After seeing the pics I think I'm going to like the 12.9 Pro in it's most current release. I sold my 12.9 1st gen. to my friend and purchased the 10.5.

I am looking for a laptop size screen, and I'm hoping the new 12.9 gives me the best of both worlds with a smaller size than the original 12.9.

I guess I will see when I open the box. I'm sure it will look too big, but I'll give it a chance.

Heck, the other ouch is that I have to sort through my bags and see what will still work with the larger size. Looking at the new Waterfield Design Sling now.

I also have to mention having to buy new case, and new keyboard case. Ouch! But of course nobody made me . So I guess I'm pinching myself on this one;)

Ugh, yeah. I just hope the 11” supports side by side full versions of apps for procreate and when I draw. I doubt it does but I can wish. Can’t afford the extra 200 unfortunately

All that wasted space on the home screen. Could get 3 times the icons on there. iOS vNext really needs to pull its finger out with a total redesign for iPad.

I saw some reports yesterday that the 11" still displays iPhone versions in 50/50 split view.

I don't think that would be a good idea. A screen crammed full of icons makes it hard to find stuff. In macOS, for example, I find it difficult to locate anything on the (much denser) Launchpad screen, which is why I never use it.

I just had mine replace cause of a dead pixel. I do like the specs of the 11in iPad pro except for the non-headphone jack. I spent hours trying to find the right headphones to listen to and I'm not gonna switch to wireless. Photos from my camera I will move wirelessly. Oh but that pencil is sweet. I wish Apple would have just waited and came out with the 11in first.

Is it stupid that I want to upgrade for the pen storage and two angles on the keyboard case? I love my 10.5 but hate that the keyboard case only has one angle, just adding that second one would be really nice, along with having the pencil always there and charged. But I mainly use my iPad for notes and can’t justify the $500 upgrade (about the cost difference including selling the 10.5 and rebuying the assesories).

Going to hold off for a true screen upgrade. I’d immediately buy an OLED (or equivalent) display iPad. Basically any screen tech that is similar to the X/XS or better would be an insta buy for me. People can say what they want but even looking at the XR in the store today made me instantly realize how happy I was with the XS over it. These screens have spoiled me and standard LCD’s just look flat to me now.

I’ve made this same argument to people before and been down voted on reddit. I haven’t dropped and broken an apple device ever. At least not that I can remember anyway and I’ve had most everything they’ve released over the years.

If I would have gotten AppleCare just on iPhone alone every single year, that would have probably equaled out to a thousand dollars by now paying for something I never got use out of.

If people wanna get AppleCare hey. More power to ya. But personally I choose not to and to just be careful with my stuff.

Yes. Someone in another thread posted a screenshot from Apple's Developer website that the 11" iPad Pro displays apps in "compact" mode in 50/50 split view.

And all iPads (running iOS 11 and later) display only a single column of widgets when in landscape mode. I loved the dual column on the 12.9 Pro... it was becoming an "at a a glance" info center. But now it is odd to see my Mini 4 (on iOS 10.x) display 2 columns but the 12.9 Pro (on iOS 12) display one.

The change to one column was so counter productive and a perfect example of change for changes sake. There is no viable reason to have changed this.
