Not me. This iPad is basically what I and Apple have been waiting to produce for a long time. I was happy to sell all my 10.5 gear and move on as quickly as possible. Cost me $300 in the end, I can live with that.

I have a 9.7 Pro and am really on the fence. This new iPad with the full sized screen is amazing and I would love to have it. But I just upgraded other Apple devices last month (watch and phone). I use a Microsoft Surface for work. I have a Macbook at home. It's hard to come up with enough use cases that would drive me to use the iPad enough to justify dropping $1k on it (that would be my net cost for a 128 GB Wifi plus all the accessories plus tax minus about $350 in profit for selling the 9.7 and accessories). That's a lot of dough for a device that I might not use as much as I expect.

Yea, I don't think it would make a lot of sense for you. I use just an iPad Pro and iPhone for work and personal, so these types of purchases make a lot more sense. If I were in your position, I'd just hold onto the 9.7 Pro, still a capable computer. I agree that these prices are high, but Apple is positioning it as a Pro machine potentially replacing a traditional computer for those people. When you think of it like that, $799 (although it should be 128GB, my main gripe) isn't a bad price.

I am really tempted, I upgraded to the 10.5 iPad Pro last year but this new one looks great.the only accessories I purchased were the Pencil and Smart Cover. Like others I tend to keep them a few years before upgrading.

The resale value on the 10.5 is terrible. Prices for the 64 GB WiFi on eBay are around $400. After fees you’re looking at $350.

Net upgrade price will be $500 after taxes. That’s not including any accessories which are now more expensive too.

If needing the Pro, best to wait for a sale. Otherwise look at the 2018 iPad real hard.

I use my iPad Pro 10.5 mainly as a reading device n occasional gaming. I believe the chamfered curved edges of the 10.5 is much comfortable to hold using one hand than the rectangular shharp edge of the 11”.

Going to sit it out, I got a good deal on my 10.5 iPad last year from target.
Also this upgrade is just honestly a bigger screen with a faster processor and the addition of usbc, at the same time they took away headphone jacks...
I am going to wait until they release an OLED iPad, just not worth the investment to upgrade again this year.

I hope they do that, but that's been rumored for years.

I haven’t bought a new iPad since 2013 so I’m ready

2014 for me. It's time. Plan on keeping this one till the next major redesign. What I'd love to see is 12 hour battery. It's time for Apple to provide more battery life across ALL of their devices.

I agree. Might be giving this to a family member. I’d rather not sell it since I paid 700 dollars for my iPad Pro 10.5. Rather watch someone I love enjoy it then get ripped off.

Well as fate would have it, I dropped my new XS Max last night and cracked the living heck out of the screen. I don't have Apple Care, so that'll be $329 to fix. It was Halloween, I was wearing a costume, I fumbled to get my phone out of my pocket to get a pic of my daughter, the silicone case snagged on my outfit, and it went flying onto the curb.

So yeah, I'll be putting off that iPad upgrade for a while...

First time I ever cracked an iPhone screen since I started owning iPhones in 2006.

I don’t see anything on apples website indicating it. Did the 2017 10.5/12.9 have HDR?

Also in that review, I don’t see any mention of hdr being on the 12.9 inch in that review at all, but the 11” says it doesn’t feature it. Super confusing.
The 2017 10.5 and 12.9 support HDR-10 and Dolby vision. The 10.5 on new iPad page no longer lists it, so I hope it’s just another bad editing screwup.

Hoping so. Though to be fair, it’s not really noticeable on it and more so on the X and XS. Not a huge dealbreaker as the screen technically is the same display as the 12.9.

I have the 2018 iPad and I got it knowing new iPads were being introduced in 6 months. I’m curious why they didn’t build the new pencil technology into it but I’m guessing since it’s a budget iPad. Anyways. I really want a pro but I’d rather wait and see if the older ones have some deals during the holidays, the new ones are just too pricey.

Although it looks quite a bit different than the previous generation, not much has been improved for my use case.

The faster processor is nice, but the 10.5” runs super smoothly for me, except perhaps in some really taxing games like PUBG, which could always use more power.

I might be interested in the rumored depth camera, OLED, or maybe a desktop mode. I saw an OLED tablet at the store, but the off-axis color shift annoyed me, so I’m not even sure if OLED would get me to upgrade.

I’m not one to upgrade every year anyways, my previous tablet was the iPad 3.

This.

However some people on macrumours are more than willing to upgrade their Apple devices every year.

Each to their own.

I was one of those with respect iOS devices. I upgraded my "big" iPad and mini iPad every iteration since the iPad 2 and my phone since the 4. Except I waited out the X (got an 8 plus) and will now be waiting out this iPad Pro. I'm fortunate to have enough disposable income to upgrade if I wanted to, but I still can't justify going from my 10.5 pro to the new one.

Ah that’s a bummer. Definitely a terrible feeling I’m sure. Yea maybe best to sit this one out.

After cracking the glass on the back of my iPhone X, I learned my lesson and picked up apple care for my iPhone X’s max this year.

No one needs to upgrade their iPad Pro annually. Doesn't make any sense to outlay all that money for a modest boost in performance.

Maybe in the next year or two an OLED display & perhaps a more desktop-like experience with iOS on iPad will make me want to upgrade my 10.5. Until then, I'm good.

I’m still trying to decide if I will pick one up or not. I have a 10.5 and 12.9 2nd gen now and regularly use them for different things. It would be nice to consolidate on one device so I’ll really need to see them in person to see if the 11 is big enough or the 12.9 is small enough to cover what I use both for.

Exactly my position.
