I’m seeing numerous posts about the Midnight M2 Air gathering fingerprints and people who are borderline manic regarding this issue and how disgusted they are that the machine will have fingerprints on it if ( god forbid) they touch it.
Do people wish for some sort of levitation device to be incorporated by Apple and some special gloves provided with each purchase?
Apple should seriously refuse to accept returns on the basis people want a refund or an exchange because of finger marks. It’s a seriously pathetic reason to return something and is up there with the time my mate purchased The Simpsons Skateboarding from Woolworths on the PS2 and took it back an hour later demanding his £40 back because it was the “crappiest game ive ever played” and he got banned from the shop and told to p off by management. In fact I hope Apples management do this and start being more ruthless and nuclear towards their customers and make their future models even more likely to get fingerprints just to prove a point and charge vast amounts of money to make it fingerproof. At the end of the day we all want nice looking tech but people buy MacBooks or computers for a purpose, it’s not an ornament to observe it’s a tool to be used to help you study or used for work purposes and that’s it, nobody I ever knew fell in love with a laptop because months later something better and more powerful emerges and we all get bored of things too quickly.
plus I can guarantee after a week the finger marks won’t even matter to you anymore.
Just buy it in Silver or Space Grey and use the machine for its intended purpose.

Honestly, this is a thing? My Boss just ordered said MacBook. It will be interesting to hear his thoughts once he receives it...

People don't want their thousands dollar laptop to always look like it's covered in mcdonalds grease?? The horror!!

A subset of this forum has (allegedly) returned them. I saw more cancelling which affects nothing. This forum being a tiny % of people who buy macs. Why some people are so angry about a minority of people doing something that doesn't affect you is beyond me...

And I do think it is silly to act like a lot if not most people don't at least partially consider aesthetic when buying Apple products. I promise you can care about function & also want the object you look at for most of your day to please you visually... If you can't have two different thoughts at once I'd think that's a bigger problem than people being bothered by fingerprints. I find people being bothered by the new MBP weight a little odd as I don't care at all but I am not throwing a fit over it, if they want to return it why do I care?

It could be possible. One thing that drives me nuts is getting smudges on the screen even if you can't see them half the time it drives me crazy. I have some general dirt on my space gray MBP but it's easily wiped and cleaned off.

It's a disgusting feature that does not need to be there. Apple can build the best tech in the world but can't make sure their surfaces are fingerprint free?

I have no doubt some people will be returning and that seems fair given the fact that this problem was largely unknown to the public at the pre-order time.

Over here
I can see how it would annoy some people. Mine was a mess within a few hours and whilst it did not trigger me so much it was just so noticeable. I decided to upgrade the ram and returned it to the store for a 16GB model but they only had Space Gray. If they had a Midnight one I would have taken it. Still such a nice colour.

Excuse me, good sire, but the Midnight MacBook Air was not created with peasantry in mind 🧐

You are required to wear a pair of those while handling your laptop.

Hat and cane are optional, but they are welcome addition.

You caring this much about someone returning their laptop for such a small reason is possibly more pathetic than that reason itself.
Nope, it’s times like this I wish I was the Apple boss because I’d personally deny returns for every single customer alongside a strongly worded note and then maybe charge a fee of £10,000 for wasting valuable company time

Well that sounds a bit much. But realistically, Apple isn't eating a loss from all the constant returning of things - its passed on to the consumer in increased prices usually, so thats why I find it frustrating.

I’d do the same. I’m not dropping that kind of money not to be satisfied. Whether it has to do with hardware or something as simple as looks.

Now, I don’t know if it’s such a big deal they’ve released anything warning people like they did with the Jet Black iPhone 7 series or not. Maybe they should, to warn buyers of the M2MBA and reduce the amount of returns.

But as a buyer, I have the choice to return any item for any reason in the time given in Apples Return Policy. They want to adjust the policy against this, then fine. People will have to make better decisions when purchasing once that’s in place.

With supply chain shortages, I am guessing a lot of people preordered before the reviews came out. Discovered the thing is a fingerprint magnet, and decided a different color was better for them.

Makes sense to me. Between the fingerprints and paint chips, I wouldn’t get the midnight blue.

With Apple's current position they probably can do just that, withstand the PR damage and still sell millions of shiny new devices next year and nobody will remember the fiasco.

Well it’s the buyers money therefore they are entitled to do whatever they like with it. It’s their money therefore they should get total satisfaction. I could care less who returns what for x reasons. That isn’t my problem nor will I bash anyone for it. I did return midnight 8/256 and got a space gray 8/512/67w in stead. Didn’t like midnight much and preferred more storage. I’ve always said this forum probably consist of less than 1% of the apple users in the world. Not too concern on some of the unnecessary posts on here.

I don't understand how it's such a shock to anyone that midnight would show fingerprints. Have you ever used a Lenovo Thinkpad? A Microsoft Surface Laptop in matte black? They all show fingerprints. If it's a problem, you have two options: 1) don't buy it; 2) wipe the fingerprints off. Geez.
