Her is an image of one I found on Instagram that showcases the fingerprints. Apparently he took it back because of this. ( insert facepalm)

There is no need for a "face palm"

A lot of us want nothing to do with a machine that gets dirty so easily (and shows it)
That's a perfectly valid feeling to have about a product

I don't understand the point of the thread -- just to be "OMG LOL" at people?

Let's do better here - c'mon

I’ve actually spoken to an Apple representative about this issue and he’s pretty high up and told me not to tell anyone but apparently the fingerprint issue on the midnight colour alone was done “deliberately” because it forces Apple to upgrade the paint job and charge consumers more to rectify it, upwards of £350-£500 more ($420) once the new paint job is applied to newer machines in the future. I was also told the midnight colours fingerprint issue is also a secret security device because if it gets stolen the police can just scan it in and see who’s stolen it by looking at the fingerprints on the machine. The only way around this is if the burglar uses gloves to handle it or wipes the fingerprints off the machine before the police arrive. There is a small chance however of your prints being on the machine still and you could be accused of stealing your own machine
This is the absolute truth. Now excuse me while I flap my arms and fly to the moon.

It’s like what Simon Cowell said on Top Gear. Clarkson berated him for buying a Mercedes Maybach instead of a Rolls Royce claiming the Maybach was ugly as hell and Cowell said “ it’s not a car to drive, it’s a car to be driven in“ then said “I don’t go on a British airways first class flight and get out of the plane mid flight and say “I don’t like the look fo the plane, it’s all about the interior and the experience “

The Macbook is a tool you use and supposed to be an experience, what it looks like is not of concern, or at least shouldn’t be as most people will just use it to surf the internet or pretend to be businessmen and pretend to know how to use spreadsheets when they couldn’t even run a bath. Imagine an office worker going into work and saying “oh my god my monitor has fingerprints on it that’s a disgrace I’m not using that, and it’s not the colour I wanted I demand to speak to management”

pathetic

I've noticed on Twitter and Instagram these last few days a lot of pictures of Midnight MacBook Airs which look like their owners are having a burger and fries for each and every meal after which they're smearing their hands all over them.

Honestly, how are people using their laptops to get them this covered in smudges?

Over here
Honestly, how are people using their laptops to get them this covered in smudges?

Nothing more than handling it. I had the midnight for 24 hours and it looked as bad if not worse than the one in the picture above. As it happens I returned mine as 8GB was not going to be enough and I got a 16GB replacement, all they had was space grey. But I would have taken another Midnight, it didn't trigger me as much as others.

But, it looks pretty bad with all the prints over it. They don't come off with a quick wipe, they are really quite stubborn and difficult to remove for the all good it would do removing them given how quick they appeared back.

It's not just on the cover though, it looks as bad around the trackpad. I can totally get that people will get triggered by the marks, especially when they are not that easy to remove.

My comment wasn't aimed at you tbh... I was just amazed at the state of some other ones on social media these last few days. I've kind of got used to them - I can't see them when using it and give it a wipe every few days if I need to.

This. Anyone who cares this much about the purchasing decisions of other people needs to step back from their keyboard and get a life.
I’ve got a life thanks , more so than the people who return a piece of metal because it’s got fingerprints on. I seriously think people need to go to school again and learn about what true value is, but then again not everyone is as good looking or intelligent as me

A quick swipe of Plexus (or, hell, even the Pledge mentioned above) on a microfiber cloth not only removes the issue instantly, it also seals the surface against more fingerprints. Honestly you could see these threads and believe people have no clue how to keep anodized surfaces clean.

Yeah, funny that is not something at the forefront of people's minds when they buy a laptop. 'how to care for an anodized surface'.

Not to mention -- people look to a company like Apple to solve problems for them....not create them.

Again -- the folks defending Apple at every turn -- I just don't get it
Demand more from the MegaCorp folks!

I just watched CNETs comparison of the Midnight with the M2 MBP. I understand why people choose midnight. It’s a really stealth color. The fingerprints wouldn’t bother me much, but I also understand it chips off easily; especially when you are plugging and unplugging stuff. It’s likely gonna show that ware and tear over time pretty fast.

For me this is the bigger issue and the reason I prefer the silver -- over the midgnight and space grey. I think the starlight might have similar durability as silver but only time will tell.

To a degree it’s silly as many of us have iPads that….look like complete fingerprint crap but nobody complains because well…it’s a touch screen? Get a wipe and wet a fingertip worth of the microfiber then dry it off here and there. It’s easily the most beautiful color when it’s clean. Wipe it up before you have company over so you can impress them.

The iPad Pro screen looks filthy easily and the Magic Keyboard case has PERMANENT oil markings in that material over time. This is a nonissue for many of us…

I originally wanted to get the M2 Air in midnight but now I’m thinking of just getting a MBP 14”. If they had a MBP in midnight I’d bite their arms off, I guess I’ll have to settle for space grey. Does anyone know if they are launching new MacBook Pro’s later this year?
