I suspect if you just accepted them it will be no different to other colours that clearly still have them, they just don't show up much.

That said I see a MignightGate coming as people clean it so much it starts causing dull patches or removes the colour completely. 🤣
Hah! This may actually unlock Apples next brilliant idea for color/finish as they unveil the new rustic worn look.

Apple: We’ve got a new finish we think you’ll love! No more rubbing fingerprints off and scratching to get that beautiful rustic look.

Some fingerprints wipe off, depending on the finish. Sometimes you have to wipe the surface hard because the prints continue to smudge while wiping. This can result in other damage over time such a surface scratches depending on what the user uses to wipe them.

I’m an artist and a clean freak, so I’m definitely one that would get “bent out of shape” over this. But, I’m also cautious of colors I buy or material used for cases I buy to avoid it. 😎

A little dampness to a microfiber should be fine to clear them out and not cause you to want to try rubbing hard. It’s what I do now with all my devices. Nothing ever wears out

I think one of two things happened.

1) Apple knew this would happen, has the know how to prevent it and didn’t because they were cutting corners to save cost.

Or

2) not enough research/thought went into finish on top of the color and Apple is losing their attention to detail.

But it is a beautiful color 😃
Since apple has a long term love affair with fingerprints I vote #1

Hey if they want fingerprints as a feature perhaps a leather finish is best.

I’m seeing numerous posts about the Midnight M2 Air gathering fingerprints and people who are borderline manic regarding this issue and how disgusted they are that the machine will have fingerprints on it if ( god forbid) they touch it.
Do people wish for some sort of levitation device to be incorporated by Apple and some special gloves provided with each purchase?
Apple should seriously refuse to accept returns on the basis people want a refund or an exchange because of finger marks. It’s a seriously pathetic reason to return something and is up there with the time my mate purchased The Simpsons Skateboarding from Woolworths on the PS2 and took it back an hour later demanding his £40 back because it was the “crappiest game ive ever played” and he got banned from the shop and told to p off by management. In fact I hope Apples management do this and start being more ruthless and nuclear towards their customers and make their future models even more likely to get fingerprints just to prove a point and charge vast amounts of money to make it fingerproof. At the end of the day we all want nice looking tech but people buy MacBooks or computers for a purpose, it’s not an ornament to observe it’s a tool to be used to help you study or used for work purposes and that’s it, nobody I ever knew fell in love with a laptop because months later something better and more powerful emerges and we all get bored of things too quickly.
plus I can guarantee after a week the finger marks won’t even matter to you anymore.
Just buy it in Silver or Space Grey and use the machine for its intended purpose.
Everybight, before I retire for the night,I squirt my Microfiber cloth wit IKLEAR and do the 12.9” iPad Pro Screen,Keyboard, and the top surface of the Keyboard, close it and next bay its ready for a new day. Used to do the same routine on the 12” MB, way back when. I’m 74, and it sounds you and your wife are a pair. It’s nice when folks of like thoughts find each other. I am going to replace my 2013 MBA,with a black 2022 M2 MBA fully optioned, and yes I have a 50 pack, package of Microfiber cloths, and A new bottle of iKlear

I looked at a Midnight M2 MBA the other day. (I had no intention of getting midnight even before I saw it) but there were fingerprints on it. They weren't bad enough to really bother me if they are easy to remove.
It was the colour that bothered me more. It appeared to be black IMO. I wouldn't expect the lighting in the store to be any worse than I have at home, so I'd never see it blue. I still have to decide, but it will not be Midnight for sure. I can see people returning it because of the fingerprints, and I'd be that guy for sure if I had bought one and it annoyed me, but I could live with it. Not sure I could hack the colour however. S

All of the same people allegedly returning or canceling their Midnight MBA because of possibly seeing fingerprints, probably currently have a Space Grey laptop that also shows fingerprints with a BLACK keyboard covered in visible wear/tear and a palm rest also covered in visible wear/tear.

I don't get it. I've seen how most people treat their laptops. Their keycaps are all shiny with grease (especially the space bar), and their palm rests are all shiny/stained with grease.

They seemingly never cared before about keeping their laptops clean, but all of a sudden now it's a HUGE deal with the Midnight color because all of the YouTubers said so.

Seriously, if you all gave a darn about that, you would be cleaning and wiping your keyboards and palm rest every day, but I bet 95% of you don't. The keyboard especially, because it gets WORSE looking wear/tear that becomes permanent (plastic) if you don't wipe it often.

I just find it incredibly funny and hypocritical.

I am an ACTUAL neat freak with a true obsessive compulsive disorder, so I thoroughly wipe all hand oils from my laptop EVERY single day. Despite that, even I bought the Midnight color and couldn't be more happy with it. I wipe the computer every day, JUST LIKE I do with my Silver MacBook Pro. No difference. Except the Midnight looks absolutely gorgeous.

You caring this much about someone returning their laptop for such a small reason is possibly more pathetic than that reason itself.
Having a laugh at people for being ridiculous isn't "caring this much."

The degrees to which people will moan and complain about anything Apple makes have hit absolutely bonkers level of craziness.

Fingerprints. Good god people, go outside and get some fresh air.

Apple should void the warranty of anyone who downplays the personal reasons of other customers or questions their return policy, especially if they feel inclined enough to produce additional forum threads on a topic that could easily have been addressed when people mentioned their return reasons. 😂

In six months time, half the people who initially returned their Midnight MBA within days for showing fingerprints will be sat in front of a five month old Starlight or Space Grey MBA which looks like it's been used to eat their dinner off.

A cursory scroll through this thread will show you whether OP is simply laughing about it or all up in his feelings about how other people use their own money.

I'll let you figure out which one for yourself.

He did also tell me that the M10 chip was already in pre production 😆
And the next MBA will have a single 512GB disk chip to slow it down to force you to buy the 1TB version instead...

There is a lot of anger and animosity in this post to what is a valid point that I’ve made. Also numerous other posters have mentioned about the iPad Pro, that gets fingered daily and gets smudge marks on but you don’t see people returning them. My space grey iPad Pro is covered in fingerprints both front and back and I’m using it to frequent this forum instead of sending Apple care threatening messages demanding a new fingerprint proof model.
in this instance don’t blame Apple, blame genetics for giving us fingerprints in the first place.
By the way my contact in Apple has information regarding the 12” MacBook nano which will launch in 2023 and the upcoming Macbook Ultrapro which is launching in 2025-2030 with 128GB ram as standard going up to 1TB RAM with prices starting at £2700

With your post things have suddenly escalated one level. What we have now! Someone complaining about the people complaining about those complaining about the fingerprints. ;)
Me complaining about people complaining about fingerprints on a small metal box is a genuine complaint and I’m right. People complaining about me complaining about people complaining about fingerprints is another complaint because it’s pathetic
