Those were added for the lol factor but the sentiment remains, because people really do need to deal with it
And they are dealing with it, by returning something they don’t like for something they prefer 🙂

This is their choice. Just like it was your choice to start a thread about something that doesn’t effect you other than you not understanding why people are doing it :)

My midnight BTO is being delivered on Thursday but I won’t even be opening it and will return it. Today I placed a new BTO Starlight instead. I simply refuse to deal with the fingerprints.

Now the waiting game starts over.

I did the same with mine. Didn’t even opened it. Returned it to the apple store. Space gray already on its way. Delivery for Tuesday. Originally said aug 3-8 after I placed new order last Sunday. You might get yours earlier too. Expect 5-7 days less.

Nope, it’s times like this I wish I was the Apple boss because I’d personally deny returns for every single customer alongside a strongly worded note and then maybe charge a fee of £10,000 for wasting valuable company time
I see.
Well, guess that's why you are posting here instead of leading Apple.
However, since you know what you are talking about, feel free to advice on running a successful customer driven business.

As a general rule of thumb, treat anything negative on Macrumours as a very vocal minority which is not representative of real-life sentiment. That is, assuming the posters are even being honest about having bought an M2 MBA to return in the first place.
Look at you and your critical thinking.

Anyone remember the glossy black iPhone everyone rushed out to buy? Looked unreal out of the box but got pretty gross looking quickly. Was only around 1 generation.

I'd still be all over a Midnight MBA if I was in the market right now.

It’s overblown. It’s an absolutely gorgeous color and anyone that doesn’t mind giving it TLC will be happy with it. I hear nobody complain about the prints on an iPad yet the iPad Pro looks like garbage with regular use…as does the Magic Keyboard case most of us have to accompany it. The bottom line is you live with what you want to live with. People have the right to not like it and buy what makes them most happy, but I’ll take a cleaned up midnight over a cleaned up space gray 10 times out of 10.

Went to a local apple store with this complaint in mind. If that air could have it would have called the police on me for violating it, but I didn’t notice any more fingerprints/smudgy-wudgies than on normal black keyboards and not much on the body. I was expecting something like a blued finish the way people are carrying on about this. If perfectly clean, or not actually knowing/caring how dirty the machine has gotten is of utmost importance to a buyer, they shouldn’t get this. As others have said, if anyone has used any black consumer electronic, including iPhones (people keep wishing for a totally black iPhone again), we know they show fingerprints and smudges easier than many colors.

PS Make sure to wash your hands after eating when using 🥹

Yup, it is Apples own return policy after all..keep returning them all as blue has turned to black (or vice versa) once at home. On a positive note there will be more in the refurb store. Overall though it's not slicing into Apples profit margin one bit, they'll just increase prices for everyone going forward. So there's that aspect also.

I’m seeing numerous posts about the Midnight M2 Air gathering fingerprints and people who are borderline manic regarding this issue and how disgusted they are that the machine will have fingerprints on it if ( god forbid) they touch it.
Do people wish for some sort of levitation device to be incorporated by Apple and some special gloves provided with each purchase?
Apple should seriously refuse to accept returns on the basis people want a refund or an exchange because of finger marks. It’s a seriously pathetic reason to return something and is up there with the time my mate purchased The Simpsons Skateboarding from Woolworths on the PS2 and took it back an hour later demanding his £40 back because it was the “crappiest game ive ever played” and he got banned from the shop and told to p off by management. In fact I hope Apples management do this and start being more ruthless and nuclear towards their customers and make their future models even more likely to get fingerprints just to prove a point and charge vast amounts of money to make it fingerproof. At the end of the day we all want nice looking tech but people buy MacBooks or computers for a purpose, it’s not an ornament to observe it’s a tool to be used to help you study or used for work purposes and that’s it, nobody I ever knew fell in love with a laptop because months later something better and more powerful emerges and we all get bored of things too quickly.
plus I can guarantee after a week the finger marks won’t even matter to you anymore.
Just buy it in Silver or Space Grey and use the machine for its intended purpose.
Apple markets their devices to be pretty.

Only apple customers would justify how fingerprints look cool or are ok... my black dell doesn't even show many fingerprints... lol

Because if you want a Mac, you have to tolerate what they give you. There aren’t one hundred manufacturers who use various materials for black. You get what you get and you don’t get upset.

Presumably they're returning it to get one in space gray so they can use it for it's intended purpose. Looks like the finish quality is pretty poor resulting in excessive scratching and scuffing in addition to the fingerprints. I'd return it also.

That midnight is sick. It be my choice if I were to get one. I don’t think Apple adds any special coatings or not to ward off the prints (obviously). Idk if there any safe after market coatings/alternatives in that regard to add onto your machine if that bad. Sad really. As to to lay eyes on a pristine print free machine is in its own way just as beautiful as the black itself 😭😭❤️😭❤️

Fingerprints wipe off. A lot of people around here get bent out of shape if they see fingerprints on their Mac and have to wipe them off.
Some fingerprints wipe off, depending on the finish. Sometimes you have to wipe the surface hard because the prints continue to smudge while wiping. This can result in other damage over time such a surface scratches depending on what the user uses to wipe them.

I’m an artist and a clean freak, so I’m definitely one that would get “bent out of shape” over this. But, I’m also cautious of colors I buy or material used for cases I buy to avoid it. 😎

I saw the midnight black at the apple store and should have taken a picture of the finger prints. I am perhaps a little OCD at times and that would drive me nuts so I am going for the dark gray.

I suspect if you just accepted them it will be no different to other colours that clearly still have them, they just don't show up much.

That said I see a MignightGate coming as people clean it so much it starts causing dull patches or removes the colour completely. 🤣

I think one of two things happened.

1) Apple knew this would happen, has the know how to prevent it and didn’t because they were cutting corners to save cost.

Or

2) not enough research/thought went into finish on top of the color and Apple is losing their attention to detail.

But it is a beautiful color 😃
