1a) Kudos! I don't use Facebook either, never have.

2b) Yes Google does use a host of tracking tools... Notice my longstanding Signature below. It's DuckDuckGo. That said far more nefarious is big data, an entire industry that's got everything on everyone. In concert with the insurance industry, they're the worst.

3c) This incident simply highlighted how successful Apple is / was in getting certain Apple users to believe the company line. The warm fuzzy story that Apple loves and protects you. Excuse me while I puke.

I don't hate Apple, nor do I advocate for any company. It's just business, a game Apple has mastered.

DDG is my search engine choice was well. I don't mess with anything Google. You might have a point in the Apple marketing thing but I still believe that the iPhone is still the lesser of two evils. Kind of like choosing our next president. ;)

Get use to these prices folks unless you are going to get an OPO.

LG v20, Moto Z, Samsung Note 7, etc. etc.

$100 gift card and some extra goodies at BB. Well at least I will get to play with it.
It might be available on AT&T in November and at a Google pop up shop in NYC to try and buy on the 20th.

a) I don't use Facebook or any social media for that matter. I'm not one of those idiot Millennials who needs to put my private life out for public consumption and self attention

b) Google is well known for privacy issues and user tracking. Anyone who denies this is either misinformed or is a blind homer

c) didn't look like the authorities in San Bernardino were having a "wet dream" when it came to the iPhone they wanted to hack - and not to mention with Apple refusing to meet their demands
You can go in the Google settings you signed up for and turn on or off whatever it is you dont want them to do. Seems the misinformed one is you.
As for the San Bernardino remark, Apple refusing to help means nothing. They just went to somebody else to do it. And maybe you have never heard of the Dev team who jailbreaks these phones? I dont know. Seems alot of misinformed going on there.

Although I can easily get jaded being so heavily immersed in smartphones of every brand and platform, I must admit I'm very eager to take delivery of my upcoming Pixel XL directly from Google.

You can get Moto G at BB for $249 this weekend. Its the better speced one with the 16 mp camera and 5.5" screen.

I'm pretty much up to speed on prices, the Honor 8 is $50 off tomorrow. But these puppies ain't in the same league as the flagships.

It think I read somewhere Verizon will be offering the latest Moto G as a prepaid option for a good price, lost track of that though and when I questioned a store rep well you know. :)

I've enjoyed every single Moto G to date, I've had a fondness for Motorola that dates way back.

My smartphone addiction is why I have no less than _four_ active lines I maintain in order to keep a variety of smartphones in the rotation. My current selection of Mid priced favorites includes the 5.2" Nexus 5X which Amazon has on offer for an excellent price. It's my absolute favorite 5.2" Android currently. Prime membership is this addicts great enabler.

And we are just as eager for your feedback. :)
Thanks, it'll be fun to report on... :D

No doubt by you. The fact that you have to go deep in Google's settings just to turn off privacy settings that have no business tracking you in the first place says everything you need to know about shady Google.

Unless you own Google stock or receive a paycheck from them, stop defending them like a little fanboy. Enjoy your overpriced Pixel.

All you have to do is log in to Google and go to account. It's not that difficult at all lol. The going deep into Google comment is pretty funny but I know some things are painsaking for some. I think you can even turn off the ads if you want.
As for the Pixel, I'm not getting one and I've only had one Nexus which I wasn't all that impressed with. So you can stay with Apple and continue to be the fanboy.
Enjoy your overpriced, feature lacking iPhone.

The basic user probably wouldn't know how or where to turn off all of those "spy" settings that shouldn't be enabled by default in the first place.

Also I'm far from an Apple fanboy. My last several phones have been iPhone 7 (current), Samsung Note 7, iPhone SE, iPhone 6S, Samsung S6, Samsung S6 Edge, Moto Droid Turbo, Samsung S5.

As you can see, I've owned more Android devices than Apple in the past couple of years. I always go back and forth between iOS and Android.

It's all good though.

Pretty sure they sent out an email to every Google account owner on this matter. And they can also Google how to do it if it bothers them so much. It is like going into any app settings, though there are more option in Googles. I didn't turn off the ads. Some of them I like and click on them . I'm a lot more annoyed by the Facebook ads and there are alot more of them, or so it seems.

It's either BB or Fry's. I was reading their ads this morning and it's either or. It's tempting but I don't need another phone

Slickwraps seems to be a cool company I've got one of their leather wraps. They also seem to have a decent presence on XDA and are responsive to both customer complaints and input.

I've played with those settings, they are pretty involved. I highly prefer Android, but with the caveat that I know my every move is being sold. Even if I wanted to opt out of everything, it would make google now/assistant totally useless and take away one of the major benefits of Android and Google. I don't have any qualms saying that Android is a superior OS to iOS in my opinion, but at the same time I feel my information is MUCH safer with Apple as they don't make money from selling it. Their willingness to stand up to the FBI and others also instills confidence in the handling of my data.

The launch of the Pixel is what made me finally jump away from Android and buy an iPhone 7.

If the Pixel is the best Google can come up with, then I don't think it's worth me continuing with Android.

With no physical home button, why those massive bezels top and bottom? No unique design, just an iPhone 5 rip-off. No SD slot. Nothing we've not seen before and nothing pushing the industry forward.

I think the Pixel is a dead phone walking.

I agree, especially with the latter point in bold. It's disappointing Google did nothing to push the hardware forward in any progressive way. In fact, they just copied what was most popular, ie. the iPhone look. But we should all know popular doesn't always mean best.

It's not so much that the bezels are large. The problem is, as you've said, the bezels are blank. In working with HTC -- the company that pioneered front facing dual speakers -- I really have no clue how they decided they should leave those bezels blank. They should have engineered some dual speakers into them. You're working with HTC for goodness sake. Talk about a missed opportunity.

They hardware is incredibly uninspiring all around. They get the screen and camera right -- two very important things, but everything else is so painfully average. The only other unique thing is the two-tone color/material design on the back.

On top of all that, it's missing, what I think, is a must-have in all smartphones moving forward: waterproofing.

I get this is the Google Phone 1.0, but it's still disappointing nonetheless and people's complaints about the premium price to feature ratio is warranted.

Some good points, but on you comment about it being the Google Phone 1.0, the sad thing is it's not like there haven't been mobile phones before. Google have almost endless funds - they could have made as many prototypes as they saw fit.

It all very disappointing. I've spent years tutting at iPhone users, but I'm now one myself. Now I just tut at the mobile phone industry as a whole. They've all got lazy.
