I simply refuse to install it now that they've done away with the swipe to unlock. I find it ridiculous in this day and age that they'd remove a fundamental iPhone experience which has been there forever. What is it with Apple first the horrendous flaw in the iPhone 7 hardware and now this? They've really lost their way, Apple.
You know my friend said the exact same thing to me today. It really is an annoying design. Sliding to unlock was easy for her. She didn't have to worry about tapping a button. :p

Surely they could have had an option in settings to turn it back on if need be. I use fingerprint to unlock my phone, but not my ipad, (slide to unlock).
[doublepost=1474293403][/doublepost]I played with the Betas and iOS10 for the ipad is a bit underwhelming to be honest. It's exactly like the iphone counterpet and to be honest i wasn't sure what i was expecting (I use a Pro 12.9 inch) and the screen size was just wasted with iOS10. Went back to 9 almost immediately. Although it's decent for the phone from what I hear, but the iPad version of iOS10 is seriously underwhelming.

Slide to unlock is done by muscle memory. Now they change it and you simply don't know what's happening then get frustrated with the device and stop using it. Introducing a secondary method of unlock sounds like nonsense Microsoft would do where their design by committee would approve it. It's just wrong.

I am fairly new to apple.

I do no like IOS10, mainly due to fact swipe to unlock is gone.
I still swipe screen and end up with notifications.

I disabled 3D touch on IOS9 as dont like it, yes I know it is useful at times.
Apple should give option of new or old way to unlock.
Should have option in settings.

But IOS10 runs well on my 6s+ and is fast so not all bad.

Well, it's more of just getting used to either pressing the home button instead of swiping, or basically having it work the same way as before with TouchID (and the rest finger accessibility setting).

It's not really secondary, it's a change in the primary method.

I voted Yes, as overall I think this is the best iOS update in years. I love most of the new UI enhancements and how fast and speedy everything is. It's fun to use my phone again for the first time since the iOS7 changes came into play.

Anyway, things that are annoying me:

- The 6S battery life issue. For obvious reasons.
- The Messages app. So cluttered. Give me back my text box. If you won't let me disable all the childish stuff, at least let me hide the stupid buttons all over the app and make it stay hidden. Don't keep bringing it back every time I go into a new message or return to the app later. Not to mention, all the childish crap only works in the messages app! Everywhere else, e.g. the home screen, notifications, widgets, OSX, etc... you get these stupid (SENT WITH SLAM EFFECT) messages clogging up your conversations. Just let us disable all this stuff goddamit.
- Raise To Wake. Keeps activating while walking and listening to music, which results in pocket skips and volume adjustments. That, and when you do want it to work, it takes longer to activate than it would have if you just hit a button to wake the device.
- Bugs/Incomplete features. E.G. You 3D Touch a message to reply, activating the widget, start typing it all out, but then have to jump out and check something else first, you go back into the Messages app, everything you just typed is gone. Or when you actually activate the Messages widget, the message you just received disappears from the view and instead displays only the conversation history that has taken place via the widget only.
- Music app bugs. I love the new UI overall, but let me view my albums in a list. And if I remove a song from Up Next, please don't just play it anyway.
Well, for messages, the extra things don't really get in the way. If you are reading messages with the keyboard hidden then they are at the bottom where the compose field is taking up the same space, and if you tap on the compose field and get the keyboard then they get hidden behind an arrow button not taking up more space than before.

As far as raise to wake, you can disable that if it's causing issues or you don't really like it.

Sure it is. When you switch on your iOS device you will immediately move to swipe but no workie. Apple has now made using the device unintuitive. What were they thinking?!?
But that is primarily because it's new. I doubt swiping was intuitive for someone new to iPhone or even smartphones or when iPhone and/or other phones introduced it first (and plenty of other phones have other gestures or way of unlocking too for a long time that many people have been using).

I like it. I turned off the raise to wake and the ability to reply to messages on the lock screen. Just felt someone could see too much. I also fixed the unlock by changing the setting to rest finger to unlock.

My battery is fine and imo lasts longer.

I do agree the messages are a bit much with all the new features.

Overall I think IOS 10 is faster on my 6s.

For messages on lock screen you can set it so it only shows you've got a text notification. To actually see the text message and or reply you have to unlock it first.

I personally reallly love to raise to wake then rest finger to unlock method a lot more than previous methods.

I don't raise my phone up to look at a blank screen so this automates one step for me.

animation is horrible on my air2. it feels cheap - you can actually see the background pixelated when opening/closing the folder. looks like a crap.

why cant i select which page i would like to see when wiping down. now i always see the pretty useless notification page but would like to see the "widget" page which could be handy.

Control center has huge buttons and on the main page there are buttons that i rarely use if ever - are those buttons done for elephants? now i need to swipe to get access to music controls (music/vids). which controls i need and use most of the time? controlling music or that night shift switch for example???

I fixed it for you, Apple, in 5min... that your designer couldnt do. i only ask 1billion for this fix. and it is only 1/14 of the money you didnt pay for ireland.

That would look horrific, not the "photoshop" I mean the layout. It looks goofy like that. I really really like having pages in CC, makes things cleaner, like Auxo on my iPad on iOS 6.

Personally I really like the spacious layout the iPad has now, it looks more like a desktop OS than a mobile OS and makes the experience better in my opinion. I didn't mind the spacious ways iOS 5 & 6 had on the iPad. I'm quite fond of it now.

The enhancements to Maps are nice for CarPlay. Most other changes I'm indifferent to.

Seriously... It's not that big of a deal about space and other nonsense being complained about on the iPad.

I still can't get rid of that damn blue dot beside an updated app. I hate it, I don't want it but it looks like I'm stuck with it. Surely an option to toggle this wouldn't be difficult?

Open the app then immediately close it, problem solved. The updated thing is a little stupid, but I don't think Apple is going to change that anytime soon.

Not enough snooze time options in reminders.
Lock screen reminders are weird — you can't snooze them easily.

I think at the moment, on balance, it's more of a developers release than an user release.

This will change as apps take advantage of the new features (Siri integration etc).

Although long term iDevice users give iOS much constructive criticism as we want to see it improve, when you take a step back and look at it overall, it's pretty slick.

That said, my top 3 disappointments are;

* Lack of Dark Mode (I've wanted this since the iOS 7 redesign) - even more frustrating that the new iOS 10 Clock App is exactly what I'm looking for system wide.

* Notifications - they're too big, too bright and have taken a step backward as they're no longer manageable by app.

* The lack of a separate control for the new iMessage effects. I can't use them at the moment as they're stupidly linked to the Reduce Motion control.

I must say that the single most irritating thing about iOS 10 is the new Music app. Seriously, what an ugly and cluttered mess that Apple has released here. Also, the new right side of the Control Center (that controls AirPlay-Streaming as well as music controls) looks like someone forgot to eat his meal for a week. I really like the new Control Center (swipe up) design, but the right side of the CC just looks out of place.

Other than that I like the performance of iOS 10, even on my 6s this is really really fast if you let it work for 1-2 days in the background, before making any performance and stability statements.

I also had a problem with 100% CPU and Battery statistics not updating after applying my encrypted iTunes Backup, which I finally have fixed with deactivating basically ALL the background/system services and restoring from Backup and doing the same on the 6s in parallel with the new 7. Somehow this seems to have solved the issue.

I realized this after my iPhones got really warm all of a sudden, which is very unusual, since my 6s only really gets warm if I play some really intensive games or while charging, having LTE hotspot enabled and doing some browsing on Safari.

I am running 10 on my iPad and 9 on my iPhone. I will be sticking with 9 on the phone.

I find many of the changes in 10 to be arbitrary and a worse user experience than their counterparts in 9. Such as lock screen, widgets, Notification Center, control center, and the quick reply to messages.

The added functionality of iMessage does very little for me. The new photos functionality is cool but not something I use a lot. Ditto for Siri integration into 3rd party apps - more a novelty than anything else. My favorite thing in 10 is split screen safari, and of course that wouldn't be on my phone anyway.

Me personally find your cons about iOS 10 selling points especially if you enjoy 3D Touch.

I enjoy iOS 10 on my iPad less because of the lack of 3D Touch.

Not if you are wearing gloves that are touch screen sensitive. Or similar items...
Spent the weekend moving furniture and the swipe was pretty darn helpful.
It seems like now the same kind of thing can be done with a press of the home button.

You would think. I have 10 on my Mini4. Maybe because it is a "new" but it does not work consistently. 9 on the phone does. Swipe is there when I have needed it.

Anyway, I used that as an example. I mostly use Touch. Except when I don't. ;)

Only thing I'm not a fan of is the control center, I think they could've squeezed the music player in the first page, no need for a second page...other than that I haven't found anything that bugs me, its snappy so thats good, everyone was complaining about how iOS has been slow and sluggish after iOS 6, but so far iOS 10 functions fasters and its more stable to me so far!

I'm happy with it for the most part, but I am not a fan of the new font. It's too blocky and not real attractive. Not having to swipe to unlock is taking some getting used to!

Do I understand it correctly that default notifications allow you to interact/use Apps without having to log in through touch ID or a passcode? Seems kinda like a security concern. Anybody who picked up your device would be able to respond to messages, etc....

Somewhat. I know I can respond to texts without having to unlock my phone.
