Are you upgrading to the 11/11Pro/Max?

the days of 1 year, 2 year upgade "cycles" ended when the carriers stopped subsidizing phones a few years ago. There's nothing magical about 2 years or three years and nowadays not much changes year to year except the hype & camera. Most people aren't buying new computers every 2 years... so why buy an iPhone? It costs as much as one. It seems like unnecessary churn & waste for marginal benefit. Most of these iPhones can work perfectly fine beyond 3-4 years if they're taken care of (and kept on their original OS)

Except you can still do 1 and 2 year upgrades by trading your phone in on programs like ATT NEXT and Apple IUP.

Probably skipping 2019.
Skipped 2018.
Also 2017.
(My iPhone 7 is still doing just fine.)

Funny, that's been my next go-to phone for the last 2 years (talk about sticking it out!)
It's very easy to buy these days. The Ol' 5S is still holding together. I now understand how some people were back when I was buying every model, every year. It works, so what's the big deal? Yeah, it's quaint ;)

I'm skipping 2019. I'm waiting to see if the rumors concerning an updated 2020 iPhone 8 come true.

I was skeptical of this rumor all along. Seems like most sources are in agreement the 2020 replacement (not max) will be smaller than the current 8 form factor. If so, I'm not sure Apple has incentive to update the 8.

I was pretty certain to upgrade this year from my X - but it seems like we're getting the real deal next year. Not sure about upgrading anymore.

The general mindset of the consumer is not of what someone else is on a tech site like this. Consumers don’t upgrade just because of a ‘new feature’, they upgrade when their device is either A.) Broken, B.) No longer supported in software, C.) They have the opportunity to upgrade because they’re eligible or through trade-in/promotions. [Or, D.) All the above.]

Well, in fairness, we don’t know really specifically what Apple has in store for the September iPhone launch, so you wouldn’t really make your decision anyways until after the fall keynote if you were decide to upgrade. But the only real upgrade for the XR this year, would probably just be the camera and some additional colors.

You're right of course, but I won't be upgrading this year. I always buy my phones outright, so I know come September I won't have enough in my 'phone' fund to upgrade even if I wanted to, I usually upgrade every two years so went from the 6s to the 8. Had no intention of upgrading until this year then the Xr was released and it's pretty much everything I've wanted in an iPhone since the 4.

My current phone is my favourite phone since the 4 and I can't think of a single thing they could change or add that would make me want to part with it. I fully intent to keep it for three years and upgrade when 5G is established.

I probably would have upgraded last year or this year if I had been happier with the size of the 7+. But it was too big for day to day usage, which is why I went with the X. Still a nice usable size for me, so I'm not too tempted to upgrade since.

I still use my 7+ as a backup phone on another line. But once the SE I have is unlockable, I'll probably make that my backup phone and let someone like my sister or brother in law use my 7+. He is currently still using my old 6.

I love my XR but I have the upgrade plan. If it isn't too much more per month, I'd definitely be open to upgrading.

I’m currently using an iPhone 7 and the battery life I get on a daily basis is pretty awful, so I will definitely be upgrading this year. Undecided on which model I’ll be going for.

As stated on another thread money don’t grow on trees...! So yes I will be skipping..

Are you skipping 2019?

How does one go about skipping an entire year exactly?

It depends how you look at it. For some, they upgrade annually (Or they are enrolled to upgrade annually), so if they decide not to purchase the latest iPhone when it launches in September, then they clearly ‘skipped’ a whole year of _that_ generation iPhone.

I feel he means a slightly misleading wording in the title. Like, “nobody can live 2020 without living through 2019” this type of things. ;)

Sure. But on a realistic side of things, that’s exactly why someone doesn’t upgrade, because they’re either not enrolled or they just don’t care to based on the lack of new features the latest iPhone offers.

Yes. I am not even sure I will jump on this 5G train anytime soon, given 4G is still much faster than my home internet anyway lol.
And people seems to not realise this but once general public flood to 5G, 5G will become slower again just like 4G (which is not that slow anyway).

I'll 100% skip it. Since a couple of years, smartphones are almost overpowered (at least, for me) and performance is not an issue anymore so I don't have any interest on new phones. I had my 6s plus for 3 years and I was very happy with it and I'll keep my XS max for at least 3 years as well if it keep performing well also. My phone have all the features I need now and at the price it ask, I want to maximize my purchase.

That clearly went right over your head.

Good for you? I’m shocked you’d even consider.

With the number of threads you’ve started just to complain about various aspects of your iPhones, I honestly can’t believe you’d ever consider getting another.

Glad someone pointed this out. My thoughts exactly. It is popular to complain these days.

It used to be that I would change my iPhone pretty much annually. At current day prices and frankly, lack of meaningful new features to me personally, I will hold on to my iPhone X for at least a 3rd year.

I'm in this camp nowadays.

Barring catastrophic damage to my current X, I think I'l be holding onto it a little bit longer. And even then I might opt for a refurbished model to bridge the gap to 2020.

Seems I've gotten a good iPhone X unit; over 600 battery cycles and still retaining 96% battery capacity.

Nah. It’s the Internet, not everybody can decipher sarcasm. But in the least, my post was more insightful than yours was in terms of describing how somebody would/would not upgrade. Feel free to re-read it, you might learn something.

More of a joke than sarcasm. Don’t need to re read your post. Nothing insightful about it. Hope your day gets better.
