It depends how you look at it. For some, they upgrade annually (Or they are enrolled to upgrade annually), so if they decide not to purchase the latest iPhone when it launches in September, then they clearly ‘skipped’ a whole year of _that_ generation iPhone.

One of the things that I love about the Apple iPhone Upgrade Program is that if you don't feel like upgrading a year later then you can just keep making payments and after two years you own the phone completely. It's a zero percent interest loan also.

That is nice. At least it’s not a requirement for someone to upgrade, and of course not having any interest at all helps not put pressure on someone to upgrade either.

Nope. XS Gold owner, going back to Space Grey.

That, and I upgrade every year due to the iPhone upgrade program.

I have an X and I agree. It may not even happen then if the screen size gets smaller on the iPhone 12 in 2021. I’m seriously thinking of switching to the Pixel 5 that will be its competition. I’ll miss iMessenger but I’ll miss a 5.8” display even more.

I have a X also, and will hold onto it for a 3rd year. It even has a crack in the back glass. Slap a nice Apple leather case on it and I’m good to go. I’m sure it will go to 2020. The only way I update is if the XS models get put on sale somewhere when the 2019 models are released.

It won't be that big of an upgrade, and it will be costly. I don't see any reason to upgrade this year. Next year should be more interesting.

Progress for whom? Leaving me out to dry is not progress in my book.

I’m sure it’s progress to Apple if it gets more of our money.

New connector is an answer to nobody’s problem.

The industry has forced Apple to go down the USB-C route so it’s not been done for money making purposes. Expect in future years for cables not to be included with each device in order to cut sown on waste.

With wireless charging being on iPhones from the 8 onwards, the need for plugging phones in is less of a need these days and iCloud backups help with diminishing this too. It’s months and months since I last plugged my iPhone in using a cable.

My iPhone 8+ is good enough that I have no need or desire to upgrade in 2019 though.

It always baffles me when someone says this, how would you know it’s ‘not going be a big upgrade’? I mean, the triple lens camera is slated to be one of the biggest/most significant upgrades for the iPhone camera since the 7+. To me, that seems like that might be a major upgrade depending on how invested someone is with taking photos/video. And yet, we don’t know what else Apple has in store for the iPhone, like reverse charging, which would be another significant consideration for those who want to charge their Apple Watch/AirPods.

In general, we know iPhone prices are relatively high, but I still think it’s up to the consumer what they consider ‘to be a big upgrade’.

Unless something really compelling comes out (like notchless display, fingerprint reader under screen, etc), will keep the 8+ for at least one more year.

I kept my launch day iPhone 6 for 4 years. And would have continued to use it except my aging eyes wanted to upgrade to a bigger screen. It was still fine (even with it's 1G of memory) until I went to the 8+. So I think I can easily get by with one more year with my 8 Plus. And by that time too 5G might be available in my area (not counting on it though).

So will most likely pass on the 2019 phones.

Yep. Same boat. I wanted to change it up with the gold bad idea. I can go any other color now, since the phones no longer have the white bezel it does not bother me.

Because it is popular to bash Apple and assume they have no clue what they're doing. Insert comment about Mr. Cook ruining Apple and then how you aren't going to be buying any more Apple products even though you spend a good portion of your day on Macrumors (and continue to buy Apple products).

Agreed. Baffles me too.

All phones are going to run on IOS 13. Camera upgrades alone doesn't mean much for me as the Xs already is good enough. I am not too big on packing so many lenses, and the iphone 7 plus dual camera was meh to me back then. All I need is one good main lens. Don't care much about telephoto and wide angle. Processor upgrades is expected every year, but that power doesn't get utilised much when most of my apps are standard everyday apps. I'll skip and wait for next year's iphone since I am still on my iphone Xs. Why should I upgrade to a new phone every year and pay $$$. I feel that 2 year upgrades are just about right. I was referring to my situation and opinion when I mentioned that it's not big of an upgrade. I should have been more clear, but there you go.

Undecided. As for the camera upgrade, if that's the only difference then it will be hard to justify.

Yes, I'm on the IUP, but I'm already paying $60/month for my XS Max and honestly, it's not worth it.

Hanging onto my 8 unless Apple releases a smaller iPhone with no PWM. Although I would like a phone with more RAM as I do get app/page reloads which didn’t happen on a XR or 7+.

My phone is bright yellow. It was fun for the first few months but no, I won’t be skipping 2019. I like yellow a lot, but this shade is even scaring my Pikachu.

Also, I want more lenses on the camera.

Honestly, $60 a month sounds like way too much for the Max. I know these loans are interest free, but that would be difficult for me to want to pay something monthly like that if I wasn’t enjoying the phone. To me, I’d say the Max is more of a overly-glorified iPhone Plus, just with added aesthetic’s with the glass back/stainless steel bands. The only direct advantage is having the larger display, but the battery life is equally impressive. But I would like to see more in terms of what this phone has potential to offer in the future.

I'm definitely getting this year's iPhone X size. I had an LG V30 and used the **** out of that ultra wide angle lens whenever I'd go on holidays. I prefer smaller phones (I do have an SE and a 7 and would only buy the X/XS size) and my only gripe with the XS is that it doesn't have a wide angle and the battery is way worse than the XR and XS Max. If the leaks are true, then the 11 is getting a 20% battery increase and that's literally all I need.

The reverse wireless charging also means I won't need the carry the watch charger around. If Face ID is faster and has a wider angle, which is what I expect, then that would be awesome as well.

I see where people are coming from with holding out until 2020, but honestly 5G is not that big yet, and while the new design and sizes are appealing (especially the 5.4'' one), they're not really worth waiting from my point of view (my 7 is kinda dying anyway)
