I actually ended up with logmein since it gets such rave reviews. I don't use it for streaming audio, but mostly to be able to manage media and files while i'm on the go. For instance I can torrent my TV shows while I'm at work, and then stream them to my phone/ipad via Air Video. Or sometimes I won't get home before Amazon's daily music deals expire, so I can go and buy them and have them ready to listen to when I get home :D Yes, I know I'm impatient. But I can also use this to help trouble shoot the computers at my mom's house when I'm not around. It works great on both the iPad and iPhone. Overall I'm happy with it, as the free version does what I need it to do. I could always use dropbox if I need to transfer files anyways.

After much research Logmein just looks to be the best for my needs(Mac). Buying it as we speak. Its a shame I missed the sale by two weeks.

My company blocks logmein, so I'll need another solution. Mostly for servers. Jump desktop seems to be a popular one

Just installed Jump. I'm impressed thus far. I'll need to get the bluetooth keyboard, but this is definitely going to keep my laptop at home!

I use Teamview. Not sure why more people do not? It's free.

TeamViewer...meh. I got tired of the constant "This is for non-commercial use only!!!" boxes popping up all the damn time, both locally and on remote machines. Then they started time limits on "free" sessions and other restrictions. I finally gave up on 'em.

LogMeIn Ignition is - hands down - the best. It's pricey up front but works as advertised. It's quick and easy to install on the various machines you need it for and the interface is superb.

I need an RDP client.

I just wasted $20 on Jump Desktop. The mouse control is horrid.

I have iTeleport (VNC only) and LogMeIn (requires software). Both control the mouse VERY well.

I just saw a video on YouTube of iTap controlling like iTeleport and LogMeIn. I think I will try that next.

are there any remote desktop apps that can output at full 1080p for use with the new HDMI adapter?

I'm new to this, but with Logmein, I can use my iPad basically as my MacBook Pro? Does my MacBook Pro need to be on and connected to the Internet somewhere?

I just read a review for LogMeIn and it says it costs $30.00 per month? I thought it was a one time fee?

The iPhone/iPad app is a one-time purchase. LogMeIn service itself is free, or you can pay extra on a monthly or yearly basis for the pro version.

Finally gave in and spent the $30 for Logmein Ignition. I've used most of the other ones mentioned on here and they can't compare with Logmein. Perhaps if you don't remote desktop a lot then you could get by with a free app. But if it's something you routinely do, you're better off spending the money.

I'm tempted too, how is the speed of screen refreshes - I tried TeamViewer yesterday, only PC to PC, impressed with how you don't even need to INSTALL the downloaded .exe you can choose just to RUN and it all just works through firewalls no problem.

I use iTeleport on iphone/ipad with UltraVNC on one PC, fine for on my own home wifi but if I want to assist a family member I can't be messing about getting them to install a VNC client and configure their router!

Hence I may go with the Teamviewer app, but I like the look of the file transfer ability in LogMeIn a lot, just hope it's worth the price as most reviews seem to suggest it is.

Hi all i am a Newbie to this Forum.
I have just got my Ipad 2 and i have read a lot about remote desktop apps. I need to access my MS word and excel for my job and i am on the road a lot as a sales consultant.
My question is, do i need to have my PC on all day and night if i want to use remote desktop to link my Ipad or can i access my PC files and docs with the PC turned off?

Thanks in advance..

Jump Desktop/security/gmail/jabber?

I've tried Jump Desktop on my iPad2 to my PC both a work and home. Happy with it, but worried about the security, even though the Jump website says it is secure.

I use the install wizard and allowed Jump Desktop to use my gmail account. Seemed mysterious. Looking into the Jump log, I saw this:

org/FC0B6049"><transport xmlns="http://www.google.com/transport/p2p"><candidate name="tcp" address="76.10.136.183" port="65208" etc.

Seems that Jump is using Jabber (IM)? to broadcast (?) my ip to Google's servers so they can link to my PC. Is that secure?

Should I dump Jump or what?

Many thanks!
Brian.

remote desktops

First post. On my iPad. I have tried Splashtop, Teamviewer, iTap and LogMein. I greatly prefer iTap although LogMeIn isn't bad. I like how iTap uses the tapping ability of the iPad to the fullest, seems to have the best resolution, and seems the most reponsive. Howevere, I can get it to work only on my home network, and have been told this is because I need to "forward ports," whatever that means. I have used the instructions, talked to the company, and I still cannot figure it out. I have gone into my router configuration as instructed (doesn't make sense to me why the router is involved) and still no change. Confusing. Where do I find the correct port numbers, for example?

Anyway, i am using LogMeIn, but compared with iTap it is to me pretty bumpy. Just for the record, I am not a computer newbie. I work with Flash, have my own domain, and am an early adopter of Prezi. Can anyone help this befuddled iTap user? Maybe another iTap user who understands the issue?
