Exactly. This would also work for me but shouldn't have to be the case at all if Apple would fix stuff like this without requiring active AppleCare. It takes a miracle for them to admit they have a known issue with a product like the 2015 battery issue that they JUST admitted two 3 years later...BS

Got the same issue with my MBP 13" late 2016. It got repaired due to the butterfly-keyboard-program and after this the ports stopped "clicking" when inserting a cable... I used to live with it but weired to see that this seems to be a known issue.

I know it's been a long time since your post, but same exact thing happened with my 2016 MBP. It was fine when I first got it, but since the repair, the ports became extremely loose, so disconnects happen all the time (they had to replace the logic board because they accidentally tore a cable). Furthermore, they replaced my battery too, with a "new" one. A year later, the computer started shutting off randomly. It won't run on battery for more than 20 minutes now, and when I try to charge it, it becomes so hot that the casing of the laptop has expanded from the heat. This whole past generation of Macbook Pros has been a $2000 nightmare. Wondering if the 14 and 16" Macbook pros coming out later will finally be a return to the golden age of apple notebooks.

Is this still an issue for 2018 to latest gen MBPs? Planning to get one for my work from home setup.

Do yourself a favor and do not buy a 2018-2019 MBP with the butterfly keyboard. But yes, the USB-C ports do continue to get loose at least on the 2018 models.

Three of my Macbooks have had this problem. Two 12” and one 16” Macbook. The USB-C connector is junk, they hold up less than a year if you unplug once per day.

To get around the problem, or rather to prevent it, I’ve used magnetic adapters from Baseus with my 12” Macbooks that worked fine, but on the 16” Apple’s USB cable was fried within a week because of the adapter. Now I’m using magnetic USB-C cables from Nimaso for my 16” and 12” Macbook + iPad Pro, no issues so far.

Somehow in the years since its introduction on the 2016 MacBook Pros, USBc just hasn't satisfied all the promises that were made for it.

That could be why we might actually see at least one USBa port return to the upcoming MacBook Pro 14" and 16" models later this year...

I wish more of the pro usb c crowd for iPhones would read this thread. All my usb c ports from my 2016 MacBook 12 to my mbp 16 ports all get loose after a year of heavy use. Meanwhile my hoary and abused work iPhone SE first gen lightning port is still tight and doesn’t unplug.

Yeah... my iPad Pro's USB C port is so tight that I have to REALLY yank on the cable to get it out. I could swing that thing like a jump rope and it would be ok. Sometimes it gets so stuck that I can barely pull the cable out and worry about damaging it.

Meanwhile my old 2017 13' MBP ports were so loose that just sneezing would cause disconnects if the laptop was on my lap. Could only use external drives when in desktop mode.
