Carrier AT&T 2018 iPhone Pre-Order Thread

I ordered both phones just after the launch time, but a conflict with me recently changing my plan caused them to go on hold and they had to be canceled and reordered. I reordered the 256 XS Gold and 256 XS Max Silver at about 2pm on Friday. Both are showing Preparing For Shipment with arrival on Friday.

PLEASE stop using EST when you mean EDT. The launch was at Midnight PDT (or 3am EDT). You may think it doesn't matter because the whole country is on Daylight Savings Time, but that's not true.

Then my *6737# changed to backordered. But online did not change. As of 3:47am EDT, *6737# still states backordered while online status changed to “preparing to ship.” Delivery date still 9/21. Which one do you believe?

“Backordered” in AT&T lingo is a good thing, as weird as it sounds.

Anyone order on 9/15 through AT&T and get a preparing to ship yet? I ordered a 256gb gold Max (says 9/21) and a 256gb gray (says 9/24-10/1) - more curious about the one that says 9/21. Still says pending and when I do the text, says it can’t find it.

i thought with att it was only one line per order, so two phones is technically two orders.

After doing this for so many years there’s something else I’ll add. You can check status many different ways on att and they will each tell you a different status at times. Go with the “best” status because that’s the one that’s true. Their systems aren’t always in sync immediately

Only on the internet would I ever not be surprised to see a post like this. No offense but I’m pretty sure we all understand what time it is across the US. I understand people are getting frustrated about this process but again, it’s just a phone.

In past launches, backordered meant there was movement for the order if I’m not mistaken.

I ordered a Space Gray XS Max At 3:05am ET. When using *6737# my status is in backorder. When I check the app, still In Progress.

Don’t be confused. Go with the best case because that’s the true one. Att systems just don’t update across methods very quickly. Trust me I’ve seen this many times over many years and att still hasn’t fixed the problem

After contemplating ordering I logged on to apple to see the time had slipped already to the following weeks, but then the ATT site still said the 21st. So i gave it a go. And here I am still in progress with a 21st Delivery Date.

What does have me worried a bit is that from the looks of poll on the thread people seem to be gravitating more towards the 256GB Gold Max and Space Gray.

P.S-I have preordered every year since the iPhone 5 on launch night either through apple or ATT and have always received the phone on release date.

EDIT: I just went into Preparing To Ship 11:55pm EST. Again I don't think Ill ever have to wake up at 3am ever again lol I ordered at 12:51pm EST! and from the looks of it the second most wanted iPhone and Ill still get it on Friday!

It's not really comparable. This is an S upgrade. Last year when the X released you could have ordered at 2:54am and it was still taking weeks for you to get your phone. For S phone releases you can do that, for totally new phone designs it would be more of a problem because of availability.

We can assume Att uses fed ex, right? Everything I’ve ever ordered from them came from fed ex. The folks that ordered from Apple direct are able to track via reference but I haven’t figured out how to do that with fed ex. Only UPS.

It's probably based on your location that determines what AT&T uses. I always get UPS.

Remember though not every launch is the same. The 4 and 6/6+ for instance. If you hadn’t gotten up early there was a good chance you’d have been screwed. Many were. Some weren’t.

People aren’t reading the thread. They check their phone status, freak out, then come here and vomit their worries without checking to see what others are saying then expect an answer specifically to their questions.
