Makes complete sense...they talk about giving you a free tablet and instead of listening further, you ended the call!

Not that a free tablet is that great a freebie but still...

I was giving up on my grandfather plan and had no access to computer that time... so wanted to research it 1st before committing to any thing

I just finally gave up my old grandfathered unlimited plan. I used to have 700 minutes with rollover and 10 landline numbers that didn't count against my minutes and unlimited texts. By switching plans now everything is unlimited and my bill went down by $20 a month. Seemed like a no brainer to switch plans. Between my husband and my phone, we average about 25gbs a month. I asked how much that plan would be and it would have been more expensive than the new unlimited plan. Since I took advantage of the $600 trade in offer for my iphone 6+ I would lose that monthly rebate if I was to switch carriers. I have never had a hotspot included in my plan I don't miss something I have never had. So I will be with ATT for at least until 2018.

^^^ If I wasn't getting the monthly credit for my iphone 6 trade-in ($600 per phone and I have 2 phones) I would have strongly considered changing carriers that offered a hotspot with the unlimited plan. But since I did not want to lose that credit so I will be staying with AT&T without the hotspot for the same price as Verizon with the hotspot. I have a feeling (just my personal opinion) that they will probably add the hotspot due to the pressure of them being the only ones not to offer it. I also get a FAN discount so AT&T is a little cheaper than verizon. I also would rather gain the unlimited minutes over the hotspot that I don't care about.

I've thought about since I'd get the unlimited texts even though I don't text much. The problem is I have my parents on my account. They just have a dumb phone, so no data or text. On the grandfathered plan with discount I'm only paying $100. I don't think there would be a benefit of switch and my bill may go up do to it.

Edit: Looks like once my phone is no longer under contract it will turn out to be the same price.

Which I completely understand.

But unless you were pressed for time, if may have been better to just hear him out.

As I said though, I wouldn't base whether to stay to AT&T on the merits of a free tablet alone.

Im so confused by recent turn of events,

what are grandfathered unlimited users doing who are intending on staying on AT&T?

staying on that plan or migrating to this 'new one' they released to match and stay competitive with T-Mo and Verizon?

Would this make sense to do for a 3 line family plan all grandfathered w/ corp discount (20% I think)? or stay put?

With the features that Verizon and T-Mobile offered, I see no reason to stay.

My suggestion is to compare the costs with the other carriers, check their coverage, leverage those to At&t and see what they tell you. If they don't care, I say go switch.

Compare the prices (and desired features) and see what's better?

I only had two lines and one was a dump phone for my parents without text, or data. For the first couple months it is going to be slightly more since my one phone is still under contract. Once it isn't then the new plan is going to be the same price or cheaper. So I went ahead and switched. Since I will get unlimited text and talk with it. Also if my parents need a new phone for some reason, I won't have to search around for a dumb phone since they will now already have a text and data plan.

Stay put or talk to a rep at an att store

This is my exact predicament

I'm afraid of talking to att because they're notorious for just transferring or changing your account by alluding to considering restructuring.

Am I to understand if any line is still under contract, you cannot go to the new unlimited plan?

ATT has annoyed the hell out of me over the years. In the old days they touted great coverage and speeds, and at a Rose bowl game my friends wife on Verizon was able to make a call and we couldn't. In my house, I barely get cellphone reception and even asked for a microcell only to be told it would be an extra charge a month. Add onto that the no tethering and their crazy international rates, T-mobile is a much better deal.

I am going to call tomorrow to jump ship. I see no reason even to go for their "new" unlimited plan.

I got AT&T the second day they offered the service when it was PacTel Cellular, then became Cingular, then AT&T, over 20 years!!

I wanted to add the North America roaming to my grandfathered unlimited plan, nope can't do it. No good option for adding International data, none, zero, even on one of the other plans.

I switched to T-Mobile Feb 5, unlimited for $70, including 140 countries! Hotspot, faster data speed.
Nice to Hotspot an extra Iphone 6s Plus to watch TV driving :)

AT&T is several dollars late and short with this me too plan.

how is t-mo national coverage?

has it gotten crazy better since its former days?

been an att user exclusively for like at least 12 or 13 years

Yea I feel the same...tied down with that iPhone 6 trade-in credit, or else I think I would've jumped. I also still have a line on contract until 9/17, so need to decide which plan (unlimited or share mobile advantage) to switch to.

Has anyone with the grandfathered unlimited plan been able to talk AT&T into getting out with the contract (but staying with AT&T) because of the $5 price increase?

You can the access charge for the phone under contract will be $40 instead of $20 until the end of the contract.

The letter I got about the price increase stated I could get out of my contract until a certain date. I don't remember what the date was though.

I did that, though I took the long route since the 611 people couldn't do it, I had to send them a letter. The executive team did it for me, the same people I believe you send disputes to.

AT&T sent out a letter a few weeks ago announcing the $5 data increase and offering to waive any early termination fee if you canceled/switched within 60 days.

I had my fee waived.

As of this week, they actually have 1080p enabled on the $70 plan, and include 10GB LTE hotspot.

I just spoke with AT&T, and the primary difference between the grandfathered plan and new plan is that you get unlimited talk & text to / in Canada and Mexico. In addition, you may use 50% of your unthrottled data in those countries at whatever the highest speed is available on their network.

In my case with a 22% FAN discount, my current monthly bill is $86 after taxes and fees. On the new plan, it'd be $86 before taxes and fees, so I'd have an ~$8/mo increase in price.

After Verizon released their new unlimited plan T-Mobile updated their plan with HD video and 10GB of LTE tethering.

comparison.jpg

That is false.
Tmobile CEO updated their plan to beat Verizon's unlimited deal.

New Tmobile 1 plan.
2 UNLIMITED LINES.$100. ALL IN.
Get 2 lines of unlimited data for $100/mo. with AutoPay—taxes and fees included. Plus, activate HD video streaming and 10GB of high-speed Mobile Hotspot data at no extra charge.
Boom :D

:)

I was just coming back to talk about this, but three of you beat me to it.

Almost immediately after I posted, a change was made to allow HD Video and full speed tethering by allowing a free upgrade to One Plus.

The only thing I'd worry about is that if you check your account, you'll find a box ticked on your account that refers to it as a "Promotional" feature. So I hope they mean business and intend to make this permanent.

I think its a promo plan that you can keep as long as you want.
Once you switch away from it and the old plan is no longer available then you cant go back to it. Like every carrier out there basically.

Wow att really isn't being that competitive

Grandfathered plan goes up $10/month in 2x 5/mo increments in under a year, new unlimited appears the most expensive of any carriers

I hope they feel it in their quarterly earnings, too

Biggest pain is whether or not the family will want to change to t-mobile, and if we get reception in two areas in particular in two separate states,

T-Mo seems increasingly tempting tho, plus 'love' Legere relatively speaking, and we can thank him for carriers getting competitive for the first time in, ever

Verizon has even outclassed ATT, something I thought was not possible

As for the best plan yes, but as for best coverage in my area thats a big no. Everywhere I have been all over my state my AT&T has had exceptional service over my verizon work phone...
I like Verizon better then At&t but I didn't say anything about At&t in my first post. I was talking about T-Mobile. And Verizon's plan is way better then At&t's. Att has no hotspot at all.

Verizon sucks, T-Mobile has the best plan, best price and faster speeds.
You've lost your marbles. T-Mobile doesn't even compare when you get away from the cities. They have nothing can't even make a phone call with there service. I had them for a week. They wanted to charge me $400 to leave them I told them I didn't care if it cost me $1000 I was going to Verizon someone with actual service. T-Mobile could be half price of my Verizon bill and I still wouldn't have them. I've seen sprint phones with better service them T-Mobile.
