It seems like the 10.5 will be the more popular version this time around, so maybe you have a shot. You could always add the 12.9 to a Next plan and then return the one you don't want.

I have the Surface Pro 4 and part of the reason I went with the iPad Pro 10.5 is the smaller screen, I find 12.3" and higher is kind of a pain to carry around and try to use. Although the iPad is thinner and lighter so maybe it is better with a bigger screen, I guess we will both find out soon enough!Well I'm still tormenting myself over whether I should've gone with the 12.9 for more screen real estate
How long did your stay at 'preparing to ship' and when did you order?

I ordered the exact same one only I didn't order until Friday as my Best Buy order was mysteriously cancelled. The ship date is still tomorrow, but its still marked as preparing to ship at 1PM EST.
UPDATE: SHIPPED!!!! Showing delivery for tomorrow on AT&T's side. It's being delivered UPS and its not in their system yet, so who knows.

Mine says Shipped via FedEx, and the FedEx site shows that it's been picked up and will deliver tomorrow. YAY!!
A couple questions for the AT&T people.
Can the iPad be paid off whenever you want or is the 20-months mandatory?
When you purchase the iPad with AT&T's monthly plan, are you locked into the $20/month LTE plan forever?!
Are the monthly charges to pay off the device added to your AT&T wireless phone bill?
It's asking me to provide a card right now but I think it's just to collect the taxes up front?

The data is $10/month. You can pay it off whenever you want. You have two choices: either your monthly payment or your full payment. The monthly charges are added to your bill.
I pay $44/month and $10/month for a 128GB 9.7 LTE
The 10.5 256GB LTE will also be $44/month + $10/month
Definitely need to sell my 9.7. Can't justify owning both of them.
It's quoting me at $20/month for the data to add it to my Unlimited Plus plan. Yes I'm going to sell my 9.7 Pro and put it towards the 10.5 model.
UPS by end of day. They won't let me pick up at the UPS hub. As per usual, they blame the shipper (AT&T), not their own archaic rules.

Yay! My 256gb gold 12.9” was shipped FedEx and will deliver today technically since it’s 1:30AM lol.....I was so nervous considering Sunday when it was still in processing I thought there would be no way I would be receiving it this soon!
Can someone else confirm that AT&T is currently not showing any shipping dates for online orders on the 10.5?
I wonder if they are just doing this for a day or so to ensure that people get the pre-ordered iPads in a timely manner. If indeed, there are no current ship dates.

My 10.5 just left Connecticut (I live in NY). Flight delay. Now it says they won't make the committed time, but it will arrive today. The committed time was the end if today.

I should have clarified. I was referring to new order selections made as of today, not orders already placed. Sorry about that.
On the unlimited plan, it IS $20/month per device for the usage plus whatever your NEXT plan payment is. I have an unlimited plan with 8 devices (not all on NEXT thank goodness), and it's $20 for all but one I think (you get something like a 4th line free).
I've paid off a lot of devices early. I use NEXT because I have to have LTE, and I already pay AT&T/DirecTV a ton every month (it's our only internet and our TV), so what's a little more?

I ordered the 256/Space Grey/LTE 10.5" yesterday morning and it shipped late last night, arrives tomorrow. Looking forward to not only the display difference, but the speed difference with 4gb of RAM vs the 2gb on the 9.7" pro.
