Certainly there are rural locations where coverage might be an issue, but I travel extensively in the US, Canada, Europe, and Asia and I haven't hit a dead spot in a decade with AT&T. Skiing in Vermont, dusty factories in China, skyscrapers in Manhattan, lake houses in Texas, never had an issue at all.

So, yes, if someone lives in the mountains or the woods you choose the best carrier for that situation. But to have a decent conversation comparing carriers we have to talk in broader strokes, AT&T is great.

To the subject of this thread, AT&T did a great job in responding to the unlimited data surge, they created an offer, it didn't stick, they flipped it quickly, the new one is very competitive and reasonably priced.

That's great, AT&T is awesome in Canada, Europe and at dusty factories in Asia :D lol
Guess what, you are just roaming on partner international carriers when you're outside the US.
Same as any other carrier would but who am I to bust your bubble. Yes, AT&T is great all over the world. You even get fast LTE on the moon :)
Many would disagree with your claims but whatever.

I'm not sure about this one. I may have stayed if they flipped it quickly (took them over a week) and matched Verizon's pricing. Not to mention they removed FAN which is a huge bummer. More expensive, with no more FAN discount, so I left them.

Are you for real? Of course I'm roaming on partner networks but they are AT&T's partners. I've been in meetings in China sitting next to a US executive with a Verizon iPhone that has no service. I've been in Italy next to an associate with a US T-Mobile iPhone that has no service. That's what I am talking about. They have better international partners. AT&T, in my experience, is far more reliable in the US and around the world.

Your choice of course, but I wasn't in such a rush and needed to do a bit of research first. I didn't have FAN so that wasn't a factor. While my wife and I had UDP's I was incurring data overages each month due to my 3 teens iPhone habits on standard data plans.

So in the end I wind up with the same rock solid and reliable ATT service, get my kids onto unlimited plans, and pick up hotspot tethering as a bonus. I'm thrilled as there is a big upside and no downside for me.

Exactly, they're all just international roaming agreements.
Not sure what each carrier has in various countries but it varies by country and even by various locations and regions in each country.
Last time I was in a meeting in Mars and my Tmobile iphone had faster LTE data than my Alien friends AT&T cell :D lol Give me a break...

Not sure why you are being so argumentative or making light of what is actually a big deal for those of us who travel internationally.

The choice of domestic carrier has a direct impact on what networks you roam on in various international countries. Because ATT is so reliable in the US, most of us never worry at all about loss of service except when we travel overseas, therefore it is a very important consideration when deciding whether or not to save a few dollars by going to a cheaper domestic carrier. Savvy?

There will always be bad and good areas no matter what carrier one chooses.
You're overdoing it a little bit overgeneralizing like you do but I noticed that's a general thing you have about AT&T being the greatest so Im not going to argue with your opinion ;)

I don't know if ATT is the greatest but what I do know is that for where I travel and live it suits my needs, I trust it, and I see no reason to switch carriers and take the risk of diminished service just to save a few dollars.

TV commercials are attempting to make people think all carriers are the same and dropped calls and dead zones are a thing of the past, but that's not the case in my experience. I'd advise anyone thinking of flipping carriers to do the research or stay with what you know.

That's all that matters in the end.
What ones local coverage is about at the places that they visit and frequent the most ;)
If switching carriers works great and saves one money its even better.
The most expensive option is not always the better though.
Its always good to test it out if you can before switching. Tmobile has a 30 day free sim card test drive available so that's a good option I think.

Spending ridiculous money on commercials right now. They industry had created their own monster with the amount on churn between carriers.

Very true.

The real stimulus for the unlimited bonanza is that hardware sales are essentially flat and will certainly downtrend in the near future, just not enough innovation in the new iPhones and Androids to make it worthwhile for many people to upgrade. I myself am always a Day 1 owner, I'm one of those fools who waited on line for 8 hours for the iPhone 3GS and the first iPad, but I still have my Day 1 iPhone 6, no reason to upgrade to the S or the 7.

When hardware sales aren't stimulating customers to choose one network over another, well, they have to take matters into their own hands. Offering gobs of unlimited data to those who will only use 3GB a month is a clever ploy, only a fraction of the people who switch will come close to 22GB.
