I plan to switch to Verizon. Just can't yet because of my phone not being compatible with their network. I may end up switching at the next iPhone launch
Yeah I've had both and Verizon is definitely way better then att imo. When I first got att 5 years ago it was great no buffering no nothen. Then as time went by kept getting worse and worse buffering in town all the time. Sometime couldn't even get 4g in town. I now have Verizon and it doesn't buffer at all.

I recently made an unlock request for my iPhone 7 Plus on AT&T so that I could switch to T-Mobile (though now I may change to Verizon). My device is not paid off and I'm paying on the NEXT plan.

I submitted the request online. After several denials claiming that the IMEI number wasn't showing as being an AT&T, on the 4th or so online request, it was approved.

I synced/reset the phone and iTunes confirmed it was unlocked. And it is still subject to the NEXT installment plan.

To my knowledge, I didn't do anything special to get the unlock request approved while it is still not paid off.
I guess they dropped the ball. I have 4 lines on 2 years subsidized (the last att offered) and they didn't unlock it for me. Tried 3-4 times with AT&T reps - nothing worked. I could cancel without ETF, and then they would unlock, but it doesn't happen quick. So I canceled my Verizon order and staying with ATT for time being.

I just switched my accounts. Switch my phone line and added my dad to my line. Was able to save money and place it on a business account. Added One plus international to my line all for MUCH LESS than my standard rate with ATT.
Plus now I get tethering and free international which I really need.

Additionally, I just switched my iPad ATT unlimited plan.

The two numbers that switched also allowed me the $150 gift card promo for each number switched so $300 from T-mobile!

Finally, I couldn't hold a call in my OWN house with ATT...so far so good with T-mobile and phone calls!!

I really hope VZ comes out with better international rates. This is the last barrier for me.

We will be out of the country 3 weeks this year. $10 per day x 3 phones x22 days = $660

Vs $free.99 with T-Mobile.

Yep, much to little and way late. Ported over to T-Mobile saturday, service in my area is so far so good and getting $150 visa card and was able to get a hook up code for 20% off for the life of the account. So for my 1 line it will be $54/month, hard to beat if the service in your area is adequate. And for around a $40/month savings I think it will be just fine.

Looks like AT&T has finally answered with some options that include mobile hotspot!

It's amusing to compare/contrast AT&T's response to the Verizon Unlimited announcement w/ T-Mobile. When Verizon announced unlimited, TMo's CEO was on twitter within an hour or two to announce that they were matching every aspect of Verizon's plan (TMo's previous unlimited plan had required throttled 480p vid & had less tethering data) at the same cheaper price they'd been + announced a discount 2-line $100 promo.

AT&T, meanwhile, actually went out and announced a plan that was more expensive than Verizon -- even armed in advance with the knowledge of Verizon's actual plan.

It's no wonder AT&T is bleeding customers like crazy. I jumped to T-Mobile last week and couldn't be happier saving $50+ a month over what my wife and I had been paying with AT&T.

I live in Las Vegas, not exactly a small, rural town, so I thought T-mobile's coverage would be pretty good. I made the jump from AT&T to T-mobile in Sep when iPhone 7 was released. Big mistake. We immediately experienced poor call quality and dropped calls in areas of town where we never did before. Same with data speeds. It was enough of an irritant that I paid off the phones (which were free if I stayed two years) and went crawling back to AT&T within a month.

Consider yourself fortunate if T-mobile provides you with an acceptable quality of service that meets your needs. For me, that was not the case. Bottom line - the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence.

Eh, I don't know. I still have my grandfathered UDP plan, single line. If I had multiple lines this would be worth it but I'll stick to what I have.

I noticed there's several options available for unlimited data, I wonder if the 3Mbps is across the board and whether or not it's any different than my unlimited.

I was a long time att customer in the Ohio area, let me share my TMO, ATT, and Verizon experiences from the past 4 months...

When t-mobile ran their 2 for 2 promo this past November we moved 4 band 12 compatible phones from ATT to TMO. Over the 3 month time span, t-mobile was typically faster than ATT, but the consistency of coverage Was not on par. During my daily commute t-mobile cut out 1-2 times per trip, where ATT had been solid. During a weekend trip in NAshville we struggled to get service where friends had no issue. At that point we started doubting the TMO decision. We moved to Verizon the 2nd day the unlimited plans were released and have found 4 things. First, service is more consistent on Verizon than TMO or ATT. Second, battery life is 20-25% longer which is a pleasant surprise. Third, latency is better making service faster than the others. Fourth, coverage in constricted interiors is limited on TMO.

Your mileage may vary, but at the end of the day a phone without a clear consistent signal isn't worth crap. Your never know where you might find yourself at a given point in time. Ask yourself if a budget plan is worth it if you end up stranded at some point? After moving I continually doubted the choice for 3 months. The switch to Verizon confirmed that doubt. While I love T-mobiles approach and strategy, which is pushing the entire space, the clear winner for Ohio from a day to day usage perspective is Verizon. We All win thanks to the competition that exists with the Carriers, for me I have no regrets moving to Verizon!

I agree with you 100% you never do you when you may need the extra coverage, I ported to T-Mobile the other day and came back to att today because I know that in certain areas update the coverage will vary with T-Mobile

The math on the old GF UDP doesn't work anymore, IMO -- unless you somehow managed to get retentions to give you a great deal on your minute plan & texting plan, or unless you've got a massive FAN discount.

I had a 17% FAN discount and I was looking at paying ~$90 after the price hike, and that's with absolutely no tethering and minimal international service (my last trip to Canada required me to buy a $40 data pass that only got be 250 MB of data).

Also, if you own a single line of service, you should probably switch to a prepaid carrier. It's the only way you get any kind of value.

I think Verizon's single line price is very good ($80 + taxes).

I agree.
Either go prepaid or get a family to adopt you on their family plan:)

My plan is actually a family plan with a single line. I had my spouse under me but she switched to Sprint in order to get the 6S at the beginning of last year.

I currently have a single line on my family with GUDP and 20% FAN discount and my bill's $105/month. If I switch I don't think the difference would be much after fees, etc unless I'm able to apply my FAN discount to it.

Yeah, judging by todays standards and with no subsidy that's kinda high for one line.

My family shares a 15GB plan on ATT, between 4 smartphones and 1 featurephone, and we rarely use even half. Most months with rollover, we have 20+gb to use. This includes tethering up to the data limit, no streaming resolution limits, no bitrate limits, no other nonsense. All phones were byod, no payments there. All in all, with fees and taxes, we pay ~$190/month for the 5 lines ($38/line/month).

None of these "unlimited" with an asterisk plans from any of the carriers are appealing to me. They will all inevitably raise our monthly costs, or put in some limitation that we do not want (e.g. no tethering or bitrate limits).

I know why they offer this: It's the general goal of raising average monthly account billings. It's one of the main metrics carriers use to evaluate their business. But it's still frustrating.

I wish we jumped on the T-Mobile simple choice plans earlier. Those 3GB/line plans would have been perfect for us, but at the time I didn't think the minor savings were worth it, and thought something better might be around the corner anyway.

I have a ten line account with att in Orlando, Central FL area to be exact. Service has really gone down hill data and voice bar wise in the last few years. I like that Tmobile offers the unlimited international but their voice quality is decent at best. One thing I cannot understand about Tmobile is more often then not you call one their numbers at it will say the number you are calling is not in service! I cannot have that as one of my lines is a business phone. That one issue alone keeps me from moving over.

I like everything Verizon has however someone told me they do not offer wifi calling? I think thats wrong. I currently have a 60gb shared data plan for $375 after taxes with a 25% FAN.

Debating if its worth to switch to unlimited plan being that worse case without the FAN I would be more or less paying the same as I am now after everything. The 22gb limit and 10gb tether limit so long as it is a per line limit, I think this is a better way to go correct?
