That wasn't my experience. I have two lines on iUP. There was a hard pull (for each line) when I originally opened the accounts in 2015, but nothing showed up on my credit score (in terms of pulls) when both lines were upgraded in 2016.

They "pull" credit, but it's a soft pull not hard. Meaning it doesn't show up when others pull your credit (and doesn't affect score) but it can show up for you with some credit montoring services or on your hard copy yearly credit report that you can order for yourself.

Yea, it was a hard pull when I switched on Saturday even though they said it wasn't, I have credit karma that shows it.

Sorry but you are wrong. It is a hard pull.

Here is proof from Saturday when I switched over.

[doublepost=1487692478][/doublepost]They don't check your credit also once already are a customer with them and do upgrades. If you have a good account standing with them, you are good to go. No soft pulls. Only a hard when you setup the account.

Right. We are saying the same thing. There is a hard pull before sign up for service. But the subsequent pulls after that for additional lines, upgrades, etc are soft pulls.

Well, unless AT&T doesn't do it, I've never had a soft pull.

So vZW does hard pulls also when signing up for service?? The gal at VZW chat assured me it was only a soft pull :(. So say in my case, if I switch....I'd have 2 hard pulls from Citizens One (I have 2 loans) and then another hard pull from VZW?! Dang....that's no good at all!

While this information is probably best suited for another forum and chatboard, you don't need to worry so much about hard inquiries unless your credit is not very good to begin with. You basically have 3 bureaus and each creditor usually only pulls only one of those producing a hard inquiry. Each month after the first, the effect of the inquiry drops. Depending on how big your credit files is, the age of your file ( so many considerations really) your score will drop between 0-6 points for a hard inquiry. As each month passes, you gain those points back. While the inquiry will stay on your report for 2 years. The points effect is gone before one year.

Don't worry about an inquiry.

My credit is very good. And no I'm not trying to make it about the credit inquiries. But for some, hard pulls on credit isn't ideal for various reasons. For me it's because i am in the middle of a refi (and new home this summer). So needless credit pulls aren't what I want to have right now. The point being...back to the original topic of being able to switch carriers with the IUP. It's not true and therefore have to go through all this in order to do it. Just sucks. For me, VZW is going to work better as I am moving more rural. I will switch eventually but I can't now because I don't want to screw up or change my credit score during this time :)

Congrats on the new home. Understand your desire to have the best score possible. A few more tips if you weren't aware of them already:

Don't allow more than 3 credit cards to report a balance on your credit report. So, pay the entire balance before the period ends and the statement cuts then the creditor will report zero. For the card(s) you do allow to report a balance, pay to UNDER 10% utilization of the entire limit. While you often read (hear) that under 30% is still good, the closer that utilization number is to zero the best score possible will result. Loans are a different animal than credit cards. I have a bit of experience with credit algorithms- hobby only- and my actual FICO scores are all above 800.

Good luck!

Yes sadly. They told me the same thing and I was mad.

Was your device paid off?

I recently made an unlock request for my iPhone 7 Plus on AT&T so that I could switch to T-Mobile (though now I may change to Verizon). My device is not paid off and I'm paying on the NEXT plan.

I submitted the request online. After several denials claiming that the IMEI number wasn't showing as being an AT&T, on the 4th or so online request, it was approved.

I synced/reset the phone and iTunes confirmed it was unlocked. And it is still subject to the NEXT installment plan.

To my knowledge, I didn't do anything special to get the unlock request approved while it is still not paid off.

Back to the issue..,
ATT would be better off not offering an unlimited plan. It's really an insult to the people that have been loyal customers as well as people looking to obtain ATT service
But this is 2017 and loyalty from me to them or them to me doesn't matter. So the thing to do. Is is switch. If they don't care neither do I. !!!
When ATT reports it's earnings next quarter watch how many customers they've lost
Time for ATT to wake up. Buying Direct TV isn't the answer to their problems

If they start hemorrhaging postpaid customers even faster than they already have been, they absolutely will make changes to attempt to stop the bleeding. AT&T has a ways to go before they become the number 3 carrier in terms of number of postpaid customers; and i fully expect that they won't allow their postpaid subscriber numbers to get close to that point without putting up a huge fight.

For years, people have paid the "Verizon tax" because Verizon had/has the most extensive network nationwide. Now, Verizon is offering prospective customers their network plus 10 GB of data for hotspot use for either the same cost or a lower cost than AT&T.

I will likely stay with AT&T solely because the FAN discount I have is 24% (compared to a 6% discount with Verizon). If the Verizon discount were to change tomorrow to 15% or more, I'd jump ship immediately.

VZW might be #1 having the most extensive network but AT&T is a VERY close 2nd. Actually AT&T on paper has a better network, let's see if they will start implementing.

I don't have four lines. $71 is less than $84 so yes, it is.

If you have 4 lines AT&T is cheaper when you include FAN discount. Less than 4 or more than 4 VZW is cheaper. Those of us who've had grandfathered AT&T unlimited plans have never had hotspot anyway.

You're right. I was wrong. I was going off what they told me in the store and the fact that I didn't get a notification for a new hard pull. Just logged into Credit Karma and sure enough there it is.

Not a huge deal as it didn't change my score. Awful slimy of them to lie about that, though.

It warms my heart that Verizon torpedoed, their nefarious plan to force people into crap direct TV contracts, just so they could access unlimited data.

They also still block tethering which is a necessity for a lot of folks.

That was the most ridiculous thing I had ever heard. As the plans stand right now you would be nuts to consider anyone, but T-Mobile or VZ if your family uses a lot of data.

Verizon? Or do you mean AT&T?

Yeah, I know. They seem to lie a lot about that. It will affect your score after it updates again in 7 days. But not much.

You mean AT&T not Verizon.

For me with 2 lines the base amount is the same as Verizon but with AT&T I get a 19% FAN and I also am getting a monthly (for 24 months) rebate from when I traded in my iPhone 6+ for the new 7+. So if I left AT&T I would lose the rebate and have to pay full price for my iPhone 7+ and my monthly bill would be the more with Verizon, since I would not get a discount with them. The only thing I don't get with AT&T is the hotspot but I have never had a hotspot, since I changed from the old grandfathered unlimited.
