T-Mobile has no coverage with only one tower in my town. So Verizon and AT&T are it. I switched today to Verizon, impressed with signal strength so far, but not impressed with the download speeds I am getting on phones and mifi. 5 meg down is the most I have seen, with 1-2 up. It's been as bad as 1 down and .3 up. Already called tech support and they need me to use it more till tomorrow so they can get some logs.

Not surprised.
Some Verizon areas are over saturated and 2-5mbps is all you'll see on average.

It's gotten better late at night now. You may be right.

I have VZW on my iPad. During the day in downtown Chicago I am lucky to get 4 MB/s. At night it jumps to about 30-40. AT&T usually jumps from about 8 to 50.

Update. Went into work and got these speeds only 3 miles from my house. Issues are with the towers by my house.

So I spent 55 minutes on hold to talk to someone at Verizon about my lack of simultaneous voice and data support. Ended up having to reset network settings and they had to deactivate/reactivate the feature in their end to get it working.

After that they waived the $90 in activation fees (yeah there was multiple due to me having to jump back and forth because of my locked unlocked device).

So for me, Verizon is 0/2 so far on days. 12 to go!
This was my biggest issue w/ Verizon. I guess they have finally addressed it ?? So one can now be on a phone call while surfing the web, or send text messages, etc ??

How would I go about switching to VZW if I have one line on a Next 12 plan w/ AT&T, & other line w/ a paid off device ? Would I have to pay off the Next device first, or does VZW still have that "we'll pay off your device" offer ?

You would need to pay off the Next device. Also, don't forget to unlock both AT&T devices, if not already, as it takes 2+ days to unlock.

How did you get it waived? details please! I am going tomorrow morning. Thanks.
Sorry for the late response- asked the rep on the phone. My wife spoke to a different rep, and he too offered to waive the feed

Texts always worked with Verizon while on a call, it's just data couldn't be used. Now with VoLTE when you are on a call using that (or if you are connected to WiFi) then data can be used during phone calls too.

Yes, as long as you are on LTE. It can fall back to use 3G. If you are on 3G, then the issue is still there.

If AT&T will unlock them. I did mine 4 days ago and it's still pending. So I said screw them and left.

Wow, 4 days! My phone turned out to be unlocked-replaced original AT&T by Apple under warranty, but other 2 are not. It's been 2 days with no unlock status change on AT&T site...

Was your device paid off?

It was under contract but since I ported out when they jacked up the unlimited data price I was off etf free. So I also paid the final bill in full and their system was still seeing the device as under contract and wouldn't unlock it. They will tell me to enter in new online unlock requests only to be denied a day later and the back and forth and countless calls where starting to get annoying.

Same thing here-all phones were bought under the 2 year subsidized price, the last time it was offered. Submitted an unlock request twice online, and twice through the reps, only to be denied as under contract. However, last rep submitted with a note that I'm canceling under the price increase and rep assured that it will work. So far I didn't get a denial email, but calling tomorrow to push.

Good luck bud.
If it still doesn't go through go straight for a bbb and FCC government complain.
Things get done faster when you get the feds after them. The higher up corporate executive called me next day after the complaint was submitted and finally fixed it and put an end to the never ending mess.

Could be, but in addition, they can't overwrite what's in the system and release the equipment.

Why not?
If its for a legit reason then they should be able to overwrite whats in the system and make the process easier and not drag people through hell.
They are the ones that came up with the process that we're raising your price and you can leave ETF free within 60 days.
Shouldn't they have planned to be able to unlock peoples phones that leave ETF free and want to use their device with another carrier?

It seems too much of a hassle at the moment. I'll just wait until AT&T adds hotspot to this unlimited plan. Thanks for the reply !
