Trying to compare the options, costs, coverage is somewhat like shoveling mercury with a pitchfork. Once you determine the coverage in your area, mine is marginal for both carriers, then you have to look at existing discounts in my case my wife works for a local hospital and has a 20% discount on usage. Coverage in my home will be covered by WIFI calling over my Comast Internet connection. But only on the newer phones, we have iPhone 6S and iPhone 7.

Bottom line since I only have two phones on my plan the Verizon discout is not a major savings.

I guess we will wait and see how AT&T reacts.

I would imagine AT&T is feverishly running the numbers since all of their competition now has unlimited data. I too was grandfathered into the program after having it for years. I traveled internationally for years before AT&T had GSM in the US back before the Cingular days. They've never led the charge for cheaper service, but in this case, their toughest competitor just threw down the gauntlet, I think they'll respond soon. My 16 year old daughter is always pushing the limits on our family plan. I'd love to see an end to me shutting off her data plan in the last few days of the billing cycle.

Recent update:

According to this report, AT&T is planning on having an unlimited data plan for everyone, not just their DirecTV customers:

Weird. It looks like it wasn't active on that call

I also have WiFi calling enabled and it doesn't look like that was working either.

Anybody know if me being on 10.3 would affect any of these features? I don't recall reading about any of these issues but it's worth asking.

Were you on WiFi at that point too? It doesn't seem like you were at the time of that call.

As far as LTE, were you on LTE right before the call and had a good LTE signal?

I have a steady two bars of LTE in my home so that I can be sure of. The call I was on in the screenshot was with my cable company demanding new equipment because I can't stream anything without it cutting out several times soooo.... less sure about the WiFi connection.

Seems like the call wasn't done using VoLTE basically. Not sure if it's because of potentially not so good LTE signal/connection at the time or something else.

Have you been able to make VoLTE calls--you'd basically be on a call and still see "LTE" in the status bar at the top (and would be able to use data)? Do you have Advanced Calling enabled on your account/line (something you can check using Verizon's app or web site)?

As far as WiFi calling, if you are in fact on WiFi that has a decent signal, and you have WiFi calling enabled, your phone should automatically switch to use WiFi calling if and when your cellular signal isn't good, usually around 1 or 2 signal dots. You'd typically see "VZW Wi-Fi" in the status bar when you are using WiFi calling.

I went and got a prepaid sim for a month to test Verizon. I made a call and I had data during the call and LTE showed up in the status bar. With LTE not in the status bar in your screenshot it could be that you lost LTE for a little while and that's why you weren't able to use data. I would try again and makes sure you have LTE the whole time.

I'm going to call retentions next week and see if I can get it for cheaper than $100. How they think they can charge $20 more than VZ is asinine. If they won't budge I'll jump to VZ when the redesign iPhone hits.

So it costs $180 for 3 lines at AT&T and they won't credit the $40 for the forth line till you add it. FK you AT&T. I am switching to Verizon for sure now after 15 years on Saturday.

AT&T is way more expensive and they don't care about the customer obviously. Here is the breakdown.

AT&T

First line, $100.
Second line, $140
Third Line, $180,
Fourth Line, $220 till the $40 credit back in 2-3 months starts.
5th line, $220
Sixth Line, $260
No Tethering

Verizon:

First Line $80 + 20 line access minus autopay = $100
Second line, $120
Third Line, $140
Fourth Line, $160
5th line, $180
Sixth Line, $200
Tethering included

One other thing to mention is that corporate discounts apply to AT&T but not Verizon when it comes to these plans.
