Which phone are you getting?

I get that but that’s the whole point of getting the next phone up by paying the 6.00 next up charge. That allows you to trade in the phone without paying the other half. If you wasn’t paying the 6.00 a month you would have to pay off the remaining balance. My thoughts would be the program is deceptive as you would think that hey I get the same 1k promotion as everyone else, then the remaining 500 is wiped from paying the. 6.00 a month when I trade it in. Not hey you only get 500 trade in because you owe 500.00 even though you paid 6.00 a month to not have to pay the remaining half. That should be what it’s like for someone not enrolled in the next up program. Just my thoughts.
The Next Up program is a future guarantee of what you will pay to upgrade, where the promotion deal is only valid for a limited time now. Although AT&T has been offering similar trade in promotions each fall for years, there is no way to know if they will continue to do so in the future. So there's a risk that next year's promotion might not be as good as this year's.

I am in a similar situation. Both me and my wife got the iPhone 12 at the same time trading in our old phones to AT&T two years ago. We have 8 installments left on the phones. By my math if we trade in now we will lose the remaining 8 credits costing us about $91 per phone more than if we complete the installment plan.

On the other hand, if we wait until the phones are paid off in 8 months, there is no guarantee that AT&T will still be offering the $1000 credits to trade in the iPhone 12 for the iPhone 14 Pro.

$1000 is more than the original price of the iPhone 12 ($949) and more than we are paying with all 30 credits ($600 after $350 trade in credits from our old phones). So it seems like a no brainer to trade in now and eat the extra $91 because then we will have only paid $691 for the iPhone 12 and will pay nothing for the 14 Pro (although we will probably get the 256GB model so there will be a small additional cost), as long as we stick out the 36 month installment plan.

Furthermore, if AT&T offers a similar trade in deal two years from now (basically get a new phone for free), then I would expect to only have to pay about one-third of the price of the iPhone 14 ($333) to trade-up at that time. By contrast, in three years the trade-in value of the 14 Pro will probably only be about one-third of the price, so we would end up having to pay two-thirds of the price of whatever new phone we get then or thereafter.

So my plan is to trade-in now (or soon) and take advantage of the credits for at least two years (no or low monthly payments), and then play it by ear.
I did the same thing. I got the 128GB Pro. My payment will go down to $13.78 when my Pro 12 gets turned in.

Do you have any other packages that may be on the way? Apple has always used FedEx for deliveries. The past several years most people don’t see any movement on FedEx until Tuesday or Wednesday. Last year I couldn’t see it until Thursday morning although it was showing as shipped on Sunday.
I ordered through ATT.

Ordered 14PM 512 Purp, wanted to sit this one out as my 13PM does everything I want, my wife will inherit the 13, I am getting $800 for her 11 so really a no brainer.

Good news! We got your pre-order!

It should ship by Fri., Oct. 28, 2022-------Ouch on ship date

No, if you are on next and you pay off 50% I can pick a phone that costs 1,000 dollars with no promotion, upon upgrade the remaining 500.00 on existing device is waived and then I would pay the new monthly payment just on 1,000.

Basically the iPhone 14 pro promotion of 1,000 is for non next up customers, if you are next up customer the promotion is 500.00. So you get the new phone and your currently owed 500.00 is waived on the existing phone and now you owe 1,000 with 500.00 promotion in bill credits.

What I’m saying is people with next up should get the same 1k promotion as a non next up customer because a next up customer payed the 6.00 a month. The reason they don’t have to give same promotion is because they don’t have to give a promotion at all on the new upgrade to a next customer because the promotion for a next customer is half the amount is waived when you upgrade when you have next up.

So technically you only own half the phone but the other half is waived when you do the new installment plan.

It’s kind of stupid, but if you want to upgrade every year as long as att is giving half the promotion to next users and you pay off 6 full months of payments every year it’s still cheaper if you want the latest and greatest.

So, let’s look at it this way. If I currently have next and I sign up for an iPhone 14 Pro. Let’s average monthly payment as 28.00. So 500 is waived on my existing phone. The promo is half of the new device. So every month I will get a bill credit of 14.00. So for the next year I have to pay 14.00 a month in installment plans and they pay 14.00. So out of pocket would be 168.00 and they paid 168.00 so at 12 months the remaining balance would be 664.00 so I would need to pay 164 out of pocket to be at half that they will waive upon upgrade. So now my 12 month cost out of pocket is at 332.00 then I had to pay for next 6.00 a month for 12 months which is 72.00. So now I’m out of pocket 404.00 if I want to upgrade every 12 months having next. Without next and having the promotion of 1,000 dollars and then att paying the monthly installment of 28.00 for 12 months that would be 336.00 next September so if I wanted to upgrade every year it would put me at paying my device off at 664.00. So having next and wanting a new iPhone every year would save 260.00 out of pocket if you wanted a new iPhone pro every year. So basically as long as promotion stays the same and you have next and you want a new iPhone every year it’s cost will roughly be 404.00 a year roughly. 33.50 a month.

Apple program pay cash for let’s say iPhone 13 pro last year and this year pay cash for iPhone 14 pro and use their trade in program get 600.00 for trade in on iPhone 13 pro and pay lump sum of 399.00 to upgrade.

Summary New iPhone Pro every 12 months.
Out of pocket cost with current promotions.

With Next up - 404.00
Without Next up - 664.00
Pay phone off ever year with cash and upgrade through Apple instead - 399.00 for new iphone pro yearly.

Thoughts?

Can anyone confirm that you still qualify for the $500 credit for turning an next up phone and doing the upgrade through Apple but still selecting AT&T as the carrier?

If you currently have next and you paid off half the retail cost whatever is left will be waived. Then the new promotion for next customers is 500.00 in bill credits vs 1,000. Go through the motions in your account and you will see.

My question was if you still get the promo if you do the upgrade through Apple and selecting AT&T as your carrier vs. doing the upgrade through AT&T. Going through the motions in my account wont answer that question.

Gotcha, sorry about that, if I remember correctly on the Apple site there is something saying don’t go through there if your part of an upgrade program. Is there a benefit of going through the Apple site VS Att?

For me I've always done my ATT upgrades through the Apple app just because I felt the upgrade process was more seamless. Thats all, I was just very curious about this next up promo and nothing in the fine print specifies that it HAS to be AT&T.

Can’t we pay off the remainder, $280 in my case, and then we own it outright. Then we can trade in?

If you are in the AT&T Next program you don’t qualify for the 1K credit. It’s in the fine print when you click on details. I also was going this route until I read the fine print. Decided to preorder via AT&T instead which went smoother.

I have a business account so the website is usually down even when there isn’t an iPhone launch or preorder. I have to call and I did at exactly 8:00 AM on Friday. Got an account specialist get me a 1TB Space Black 14 Pro Max, a purple 14 and a Red 14. All are to be delivered by 9/16.

Anyone knows if you qualify for that $500 with ATT if you have a next up and only unlimited starter plan? Thinking of switching my unlimited extra to just starter plan. Does it have to be a monthly plan of $75 minimum?

One of my orders doesn’t have the cancel option anymore and my FedEx manager has a package to be delivered 9/16 from Ft. Worth.

Anyone seeing the order on hold I wonder what’s that about. I ordered 2 phones both are on hold.

It appears as if the “on hold” status is the placeholder status before it ships out. It is nothing to be concerned about but is something new to this year. I don’t remember it being a status the last 5 or so years doing this.

Good to know first time seeing such message. I chatted with an agent was told the same system just waiting to process the orders.

Just ordered Silver Pro Max 512gb in Silver - had to pay about $266 to be able to upgrade from my current phone.
Hi! May I ask if you upgraded after 12 month mark that’s why you had to pay a $266? Trying to see what will the estimate like if I upgrade the next 12 month for the 15.
