I just contacted AT&T via chat. I was told orders say "on hold" because they are not released yet for shipment and are still considered pre-orders. My phone says shipping 9/15. The chat person said expect delivery on the 16th or 3 days after. He said it should not be later (like Apple which now has deliveries into October).He does not know if the phones will ship with Fedex or UPS. He said it depends on the region.
Just thought I'd share some current info.... I can't verify if its all accurate but this is what I was told tonight.

Thanks. First only my watch was on hold and then my phone went on hold too. Couldn’t get a hold of support so that makes me feel better.
Same situation here. CS told me the same thing. I think we’re good!
I believe all ATT US orders come from FedEx. I have never had a delivery from UPS from ATT. The original US hub is always Fort Worth and then travels to your local FedEx hub for delivery.
I was starting to feel left out … finally got moved to on hold status!! 🤣
Yeah those were good times but we can’t ignore the flight watch parties these days even though us ATT folks can only track stateside. 😆😆

Seems like “On Hold” will be this years version of “backordered” that gets everyone in a frenzy. Can’t imagine the people who are new to this or are not forum regulars who see ATTs famous placeholder messages with no reference. I bet they freak out for a week straight until they get a tracking number.

Launch day on ATT let me in at about 7:50am EST.
Finished at 7:52am and got an email immediately.
Just opened the ATT preorder screen through my account and never touched refresh or anything. Countdown started at T -45 minutes for me, and when it got to about 7:45, it changed to say I would be in in about 20 minutes wait time. Then a couple minutes later it said I had about 3-4 minutes to go. Rest is history.

Preordered my Gold, iPhone 14 Pro Max this morning. Cannot say when it will ship for sure, however, it should be in my hands Friday at the latest!

I know how you feel. It can be frustrating with the wait and even more so the not truly knowing when it will be but I have a feeling you’ll get it before Nov. for sure and likely early Oct. if not sooner.

Why does someone on next up get a lower trade in credit then someone who is not for their existing device? I considered doing the Next Up but I didn’t realize they get a different trade in offer even though they pay an extra 6.00 a month.
No you don't have to up load anything. The rep who told you that told you wrong. They are all on hold as the store warehouses already have the devices. Therefore they are holding them. I have a FAN account and they deliver directly to my house from the store. A ATT employee contacts you for a setup time. Don't panic it's normal.

Att.com opened up for me at 7:55 and placed my order 7:57. I think Att does this on purpose where they open earlier so you don’t order through Apple. 🤣

I still have like $280 left to pay on my iPhone 12 through ATT. I did the trade in thing they had going when it came out so I still have a little over a year left on the “lease.” Wondering if I should pay it off and trade it in for the 14 pro? Is anyone doing the same? I’m liking that purple color and the dynamic island 
Plus my discover it card has 5% cash back for Apple Pay starting next month. 🤔

Because you are still financing the device whereas the trade in offers are for phones that are fully paid off.
Keep in mind trading in a phone that is getting bill credits mean you lose the remaining credits. Same this year, if you trade it in and get $1000, it’s over 36 months. If you do the same thing and trade in next year, you lose out on all those unclaimed credits.I still have like $280 left to pay on my iPhone 12 through ATT. So just checked UPS app using my phone number - package shows up with message that tracking number will be available soon.

I am in a similar situation. Both me and my wife got the iPhone 12 at the same time trading in our old phones to AT&T two years ago. We have 8 installments left on the phones. By my math if we trade in now we will lose the remaining 8 credits costing us about $91 per phone more than if we complete the installment plan.
On the other hand, if we wait until the phones are paid off in 8 months, there is no guarantee that AT&T will still be offering the $1000 credits to trade in the iPhone 12 for the iPhone 14 Pro.
$1000 is more than the original price of the iPhone 12 ($949) and more than we are paying with all 30 credits ($600 after $350 trade in credits from our old phones). So it seems like a no brainer to trade in now and eat the extra $91 because then we will have only paid $691 for the iPhone 12 and will pay nothing for the 14 Pro (although we will probably get the 256GB model so there will be a small additional cost), as long as we stick out the 36 month installment plan.
Furthermore, if AT&T offers a similar trade in deal two years from now (basically get a new phone for free), then I would expect to only have to pay about one-third of the price of the iPhone 14 ($333) to trade-up at that time. By contrast, in three years the trade-in value of the 14 Pro will probably only be about one-third of the price, so we would end up having to pay two-thirds of the price of whatever new phone we get then or thereafter.
So my plan is to trade-in now (or soon) and take advantage of the credits for at least two years (no or low monthly payments), and then play it by ear.
Do you have any other packages that may be on the way? Apple has always used FedEx for deliveries. The past several years most people don’t see any movement on FedEx until Tuesday or Wednesday. Last year I couldn’t see it until Thursday morning although it was showing as shipped on Sunday.
I get that but that’s the whole point of getting the next phone up by paying the 6.00 next up charge. That allows you to trade in the phone without paying the other half. If you wasn’t paying the 6.00 a month you would have to pay off the remaining balance. My thoughts would be the program is deceptive as you would think that hey I get the same 1k promotion as everyone else, then the remaining 500 is wiped from paying the. 6.00 a month when I trade it in. Not hey you only get 500 trade in because you owe 500.00 even though you paid 6.00 a month to not have to pay the remaining half. That should be what it’s like for someone not enrolled in the next up program. Just my thoughts.
