I would remember peeking in any class in med school and there would be a sea of glowing apples.

And this made it possible to anonymously airdrop inappropriate pics to random classmates.

Like car manufacturers making fancy animated lights on the outside of their vehicles. Fun to look at in the showroom but I don't see them when I'm driving the product. 🤷‍♂️

Ok, I was going to hold on to my iPhone XR until the new iPhone has USB-C and now I'm going to hold on to my MacBook Pro until the new one comes with a backlit Apple logo again.
I really miss the glowing logo, it looked great!

I always liked the illuminated apple logo but there was an issue.

If you had you back of the screen facing the sun or something very bright it would show through to the screen. I think that because they actually used the screens illumination to illuminate the logo. I think this would need to be addressed if they brought it back. It was weird seeing a halo effect from the apple depending on the light source that was facing the back.

There are 2 things i remember about my first Mac which i loved. First was the noise it made when you powered one up, and second was the glowing Apple. Apple was stupid to ever remove them, they really did't understand the importance of them or they would never have removed these little things.

It's a bit how those old enough feel all warm and happy again when they hear that Playstation 1 boot up sound.

If the glowing Apple comes back i'm upgrading early!
Steve innately understood these types of things.

Needless visual differentiators are what drives purchases when the product line is stale.
Apple is part fashion/lifestyle product company, you are aware of this. It’s what makes Apple products loved/liked by many it’s the merging of technology as an accessory that is ubiquitous but definable, blurring the lines of being useful and playful in daily life not to be concealed.

This is what the late Steve Jobs mission was upon his return to Apple and the introduction of the OG iMac, iPod, iPhone, iPad and MBA. The MBP and MP were always directed towards the semi-pro/pro but not restricted per se.

Hell, if Chromebooks offered this feature, I'd consider doing the same!
I have a Pixel C tablet that has a cool rainbow LED element on the back. But unlike a laptop, a tablet usually sits flat and I never see it. In fact I forgot it was there until I saw this comment!

No please, put an ambient light sensor in there if you're going to do anything.

Your computer has a backlight. How does the cutaway in the back of the backlight consume more battery?

I would love to see it return with an option to turn it off because there are a lot of situations, e.g. performing artists, where you don’t want the Mac on stage drawing people’s attention or lighting up a dark stage.

I'm a bit shocked that I never noticed they were gone. Still proudly hefting my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) and iPhone 8+.

I own 1 Apple laptop but it predates this feature. I still own it but I haven’t turned it on since 2021. By memory it was a 2011 model MacBook Pro.

Your 2011 MBP should also turn the glowing logo off when you close the screen. Unless you’re using it on an external monitor. Then it probably leaves it on but I’m not sure

Any time the screen is on, the logo will be on too because the screen’s backlight is was causes the logo to glow. You can turn the brightness all the way down if for some reason you need it to be open but off

Should never have gotten rid of it. Same as they should never have gotten rid of useful ports, MagSafe and useful built in software like the Network Utility. Dumbing down disk utility was a bad move too. Just poor on crApple’s part really. Whilst I’m on I might as well mention the hurt they did to ios privacy from 14 onwards with on device scanning.

I’ve been using macs since 88.

my first MBP they had already quit doing it. It would be nice if they did and let you change the color, or if it would change colors or pulsate if you got notifications.
