Battery ran out about 20 min ago. I got about 6.5 hours of use, max. I'm really hoping the next cycle is better, but somehow I doubt it will be >2 hours better.

Any reports from 15" users?
Is yours a 13" or 15"?

Not happy with the battery either. I was editing my MacBook review video last night and at 6:28pm it was at 100%. At 8:52pm it was down to about 42%. Sure, I was using Final Cut Pro, Adobe Photoshop CS6 and always have Mail, Safari, and notes running. But, it should die THAT fast. I will need to test only using less resource intensive apps like just surfing the web, watching Netflix, emails, etc. and see how it goes. Hoping we either need to "break in" the battery. Or, a software update to fix the problem.
Is yours a 13" or 15"?...

I would like to believe that, but the Verge review of the 13" TB version got only 5-6 hours. Apple felt certain that it must have been a defective unit, so they shipped Verge another one. Same result.

I am getting my 13" TB version tomorrow, so I will of course test it out with my own usage. If it gets 10 hours I'll be happy. I usually have it on 50-60% brightness and never use it outdoors.
I am getting 4-5 hours ... 13" TB version...light usage (web browsing).
[doublepost=1479350778][/doublepost]Oh, and indexing is done for me...

Same. I watched some youtube, and two Hulu shows ( 30 minutes a piece ). sometimes when you just assume, you think things are going better than they are. This time.. I ran my phones stop watch the entire time the laptop was on. ALL I did was watch youtube / Hulu, and browsed amazon / purchased a few things. I got exactly 4 hours, and 41 minutes until the battery was dead enough to shut off.

Their is no indexing, their is no.. anything. screen brightness is at about 70%, and keys have no backlight. I don't think anyone can convince me that this thing isn't just flat out the worst battery life ever on a MacBook. I've been defending it like mad, but at this point... how can you? 4.42 hours is just bad. THat's almost as bad as the surface pro 4.. which is almost the entire reason I left that platform to begin with. The horrid battery life.

I don't think it's meant to be this bad. I think some people may be having problems...

It seems like all touch bar 13 inch models are getting 6hours . Mine seems to be six hours , even if I push it hard, or just web browse, the wattage is fine. Average wattage consumption is only 7 watts... so its not like its drawing to much power. Unless screen is down all the way there is no way we're going to see better than six hours

Correct. 13" with touch bar. Great laptop piss poor battery.
[doublepost=1479352530][/doublepost]I mean when you think about it how can it not be? It has a smaller battery than the non touch bar, yet has a higher wattage CPU , and an extra controller / screen to power. Logic dictates its not possible to achieve the same power effeciency as the non touch bar

I have the base Escape Edition 13" (aka. non-touch bar). Had it for a couple of weeks. Have used it on battery alone extensively this week at a conference. I've run all day with it, never plugged it in during the day (while laughing at there Windows users huddled by charging stations). I'd say I've averaged about 5-6 hours of actual use during the days. 75-80% brightness. Mainly Safari, Pages, Outlook, Skype for Business, Excel, etc. Today, I returned with 65% battery left and an estimated 6:10 left. Stunning for me!

No complaints on battery life from me. At the beginning of the day, it usually estimates between 12-14 hours when it's on, doing nothing / nothing open. Once I start using the apps listed. Over this week I've had great battery life. The best day I had was last night. I worked on it until about 11p when the battery finally hit 10% and I plugged it in then.
[doublepost=1479355976][/doublepost]have any of you with poor battery life run any batter apps (ex. Coconut battery) where you can document the battery in a log file? If so, I'd collect that log and usage and take it back to the Apple Store. 4-6 hours sucks. My old 2012 13" MBA gets that on it's old battery.

I'm using Coconut battery now, although not done much with it. I'm going to finish up letting FileVault encrypt and keep an eye on it...if it's not better in a few days i'll def take it to Apple. They wouldn't release it and it only gets 4-6 hours. I personally think it's a handful of laptop doing it.

I just watched a one-hour show on Netflix and battery went from 7:55 to 5:40. So I lost over two hours of battery life watching a 50-min video.

My 13" is at 69% after a little over 2 hours of usage, with 5:43 remaining.

touch bar?
[doublepost=1479359153][/doublepost]
How can you tell that it's averaging 7 watts of consumption?

Basic math? Most battery monitors will output the wattage usage. Just document the usage every 10 minutes on the hour, then do a median equation. Comes out to about 7 watts. Which for an average, is low as hell. so, not sure why it's happening.

touch bar?

Yes. But literally 5 minutes later it's showing 65% and 4:33 remaining. I've just been using Safari.

The battery estimates jump around wildly. Doesn't seem to be limited to me based on what others have reported.

The time remaining goes off history, the first week the " time remaining " will change, because the usage is having a higher impact on the read output. Just like a car and it's miles per gallon. It goes off the average, the macbook does the same, all battery estimates do that.

Yeah, I just closed everything on my 13" TB i7, I still only got an estimate of 4 hours 43 minutes at 100% battery. I really want to love this - but the battery life is killing me.

like others have said, apple would not have released it with these issues, it must be something we're doing. Do you have flash installed ?
[doublepost=1479362464][/doublepost]on a side note... If I kill everything running on mine, slack, mail, iTunes, App Store, my estimated time remaining wen't up by almost 3 hours, and it's showing over 7 hours now. Not a good solution, but seems to matter.

Welp... I turned off my 25GB full of files iCloud Drive... battery estimate is showing, and has been showing 9+ hours for the last hour, and it's going down at about 10% every hour now... any of you happen to have very very large iCloud drives syncing?

Where can we see if iCloud Drive and iCloud Photo Library are still syncing? I haven't even opened Photos.app yet on this machine, so I doubt it's that. I do use iCloud Drive but can't tell whether it's syncing or not.

I had 4:00 remaining when I went to bed last night. This morning I woke up, opened it up, and it's showing 2:51 with 51% of charge remaining. As many others have reported, and as I experienced during my first charge cycle, that's on track for about 6 hours of battery life.

A lot of people making excuses about software etc are missing some fundamental points:
  • When I bought my MBA 3 years ago, I went through the exact same process I'm going through now, but it got 12-13 hours on its first charge and continued to after that. I didn't have to limit what software I used, or mess around with Activity Monitor, or any of that.
  • 13" non-TB users are reporting 10+ hours of battery life in normal usage. They aren't messing with any of this stuff either.
Look, I'm as big a fanboy as can be. I'm 42 and have used Apple computers and products exclusively since I was a kid. I remember that we had an Apple IIe in our house (I was probably 4 or 5 years old). I've never owned a PC or a non-Apple device.

Why is it so hard to accept that Apple may have flubbed this? The battery in the 13" non-TB is larger and power consumption is lower. Is it that big of a surprise that the 13" TB has significantly inferior battery life?

Is the 15' that bad too? Might want to consider cancelling my order..

That's what I'm trying to find out, too. A couple of people have reported that they're getting closer to 8 hours with the 15" in "normal usage". That makes sense to me given the battery size and power consumption of each of the 3 models:
  • 13" non-TB: 10-11 hours?
  • 15" TB: 8-9 hours?
  • 13" TB: 6-7 hours?
I still hope I'm wrong about the 13" TB, because I really love it in every other way, and don't want the added size and weight of the 15".
