I thought the reason we've had to wait so long for the push notification service to come around was because they wanted to get it 100% right because of the problems with MobileMe? Given that, you'd have thought they would have done sufficient load testing as part of the "getting it right". If they are intentionally delaying apps because they don't think their notification service will cope, then what have they been up to all this time?

Perhaps they're trying to get it 100% right? What you do in testing, does not always pan out in implementation. Why not take the safe route?

right like they got mobile me right now. Yesterday there mail went down. Last night there contact synch was well not. This is not give me the best feeling about this service yet.

I am still impatiently waiting, checking the app store every 5 minutes for this update. I hope it's in the store by tonight. :(

Of course, but load can be simulated, and given the time they've taken developing the service, you'd hope that they would have covered a lot of eventualities.

Again, i completely understand that real-world testing can be hugely different and I'm not saying for one minute that I expect it to go smoothly, but holding back on approving push-centred apps (IF they are) really wouldn't be the answer.

I've almost given up hope now, they don't release app updates on the weekend so it's likely to be next week or knowing apple, within the next month

now where's my blackberry 8310.......

Uhh, thanks for providing false information. I have updates approved (as a developer) on the weekends all the time.

I would've thought they would've had the popular Apps already reviewed and ready to launch come 3.0's release. Oh well.

While I'm sure Apple would think nothing of rejigging the order to prioritize publicity gaining apps, I'd like to think they'd have the decency to do things in order of receipt.

this is business, supply and demand, we don't want any fart app updates!

Wouldn't it be easier to point out an app that got updated on the weekend or approved for release by providing an iTunes link.

He says no.. you all say yes, but he doesn't have to prove anything now. Those that say yes it does, go and find one. I'm not taking a side either as I hope he's wrong.

My opinion... they're waiting for the activations to die down. I just want to know what they're going to do next year for the new iPhone if that's the case? Maybe they're prepping by purchasing the server farm.

I am starting to think they need some sort of tiered system based on app revenue. Sure it might piss off some developers and some end users, but free apps need to take a back seat.

Paid apps would get priority based on previous revenue. Brad new apps might take precedence over updates... to be determined.

But if your app brings in 500k a month, your update should get priority over the app that brings in $72.21 a month.

Who the hell cares if push "works" on 3.0 when there are no apps? Apple is clearly delaying it for some reason. This sucks!

It's a conspiracy, also the moon landing was faked, a missile hit the pentagon on 9/11 because it was government cover up and there is no such thing as toy poodles.

It's nice to make light of it, but it really doesn't make sense that they test AIM for a week and then have no IM apps ready to go at launch, while AP News is released during the launch period.

Yes exactly. So those two push app tests the dev did served no purpose?

As large a company as Apple and they can fail to simulate the load?

No IM update has been approved. Long que in the approval test doesn't smell right to me.

In my opinion, Apple is focusing on the release of their annual cash cow. I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't see more apps approved until Monday, once the flurry is over and the stores run out of inventory.
