Beejive set the price they are a company, I am sure they priced it how they felt it would make the most profit. So your opinion doesn't really matter. They are a company and I am sure they try to do the best for themselves. I doubt they are the idiots you make them out to be.

wow.... wind your neck in a little.
"your opinion doesn't really matter"... well if you're going to be so pedantic, that statement accounts for about 95% of what is written on here... so maybe we should just shut the forum down and not bother with it anymore, because it's pretty much a bunch of people posting about stuff which their opinion will have no influence on.

OR people like you could accept that this is an open discussion forum, where people can give their opinions on things they have an interest in.

And I was not for a moment insinuating that the devs of Beejive are idiots. They're clearly not, as they've come up with an exceptional App.

*However* their app at the current pricepoint has only JUST managed to break the top 50 paid apps on iTunes, and it is my belief that at a lower pricepoint (not 99c or anything silly like that - but a $5 or $6 pricetag) the would probably have hit the top in a very short space of time -- and remember, the vast majority of iPhone users almost certainly don't spend large amounts of time around forums such as this one, and may not even KNOW about the existance of Beejive... if it was up and around the top of the chart, that would lead to even more sales... snowball effect etc.

And I'm *guessing * that the No.1 spot on the chart has more than 3x the sales of spot 47... which would more than make up for the price difference.

But what do I know? My opinion apparently doesn't matter.

so how does that work? linking beejive servers to mail2web.com and then set up an email push account on the iphone? then IM's will be push to that email account??

You register with them, get an account + email address, set that up as a push email account on your iPhone and then set that email address for the notifications in Beejive. You don't need to use that account for anything else.

Push to SMS (AT&T) stopped working for me this morning. I switched back to my exchange and it's working fine there.

MobileChat were putting up smoke and mirrors touting SMS notifications as a feature where simply it was AIM's servers that can be setup to SMS you if you are away/offline and get IM'd by someone. The notifications people are referring to as SMS here with Beejive are emails sent by the Beejive server to an email address that forwards the email as a text/SMS to your phone number.

This should work for all IM protocols and I can state for a fact that it works for me on MSN, Google Talk and Yahoo IM with XXXXXXXXXX@txt.att.net, so maybe it is something with your provider?

Note: Theoretically MC would be able to be setup to use the same email->text address and send the same alerts but that would require their service to actually work as advertised and for them to switch the email notifications on as last I looked they hadn't flipped the switch to lighten the load.

Thanks, but I tried entering my 10digitnumber@fido.ca (i'm with fido) and it doesn't work. However, if I go to my gmail and send an email to my @fido.ca email address, it comes as an SMS to my phone. So what gives?

I assume you're talking about when the BeeJive application is still open and you put the phone to sleep (otherwise it's the same as receiving an email/SMS).

The answer is yes. The sound it makes is identical to the first ring when you're receiving an audio chat from someone using iChat. Kinda like the iPhone ad ringtone only shorter...maybe 3/4 of a second?

Really?I've tried but nothing happened and I did not hear none. So what do I have to do then?
Do I need to change the settings for that?

Looking at Beejive's support forum, the app is not as good as some of you claim it to be.

http://www.beejive.com/support/forum/viewforum.php?f=7&sid=068e1d5304c622b7d3700bed41135dfe

Some problems include Beejive specific keyboard lag, unable to connect via EDGE, and so on.

Although I must give the developers a big applause for their very responsive support. If you are like me who is still considering whether to buy beejive or not, I do suggest you look over there first.

There is still hope for Yahoo to extend OneConnect through all IM services as well as a free Push solution when Apple is ready. The temporary "fake push" solution only works for a few, certainly not me (no free SMS and no cluttering up mailbox)... I will wait out on this although having a 24 hour connectivity is very tempting for me to buy it.

The price at $16 is justifiable, but only if the service continues to be as good, and only if competition remains the same.

Yeah a funny thing happens in SUPPORT forums, strangely enough people report issues they are having, fancy that! There aren't that many verifiable bugs I have read about over there but mainly feature requests, I believe the connectivity is likely carrier related as I get that with all apps on AT&T's service and the keyboard lag also happens all over the place and not surprisingly after I disabled push from MobileMe I haven't had any such issues yet *touch wood*.

I'm not saying it isn't perfect as nothing is and Beejive definitely has some issues but do remember the majority of happy customers are quiet ones and going by the number of happy customers that have said something then that is a pretty good sign right there.

Beejive has acknowledged this as a known issue in the help section in the app.

Still need SMS?

I'm looking for an alternative to AT&T's SMS charges here in the US, which can add up quickly and honestly seem like a scam.

I don't have any IM accounts, but can this app be configured to handle normal SMS messages that would regularly be handled by AT&T so that my data plan covers it instead of the SMS charges? If so it will easily be worth the $15.

I do have google mail, so I assume I could set up a google IM account--could that be somehow tied to my phone# so that google handles SMS for me, I guess through this app?

Thanks, and sorry if this has been asked before--no time to sort through 13 pages of thread!

The Yahoo! IM on Beejive takes care of SMS going in and out, all I have to do is simply open a chat, then press 1+AreaCode+Number of whoever I want to text to, of course I introduce myself (since it will pop up a different number to them) then I could send out SMS for free. If they reply to my messages, it directs you back to that Y!IM chat in Beejive (don't forget Beejive has a sort of push email notification), but if they reply to your local phone number, it gets counted to you as 1 SMS message. I'm not sure if Google IM has this option, might as well create a YIM :p

This app is just so great, I'm so glad I got it. In comparison to palringo it is awesome. Well worth the money =]

P.S. Review on my site, but it just says this same thing =]

I got it and uninstalled all the other chat apps I had (mobilechat, IM+, aim, palringo... none of them 'just worked' 100% of the time like beejive) and haven't looked back. It never crashes, always connects, always works.

It did crash on me the other day using that new picture sharing feature, but I was just testing out and will probably never use it. Other than that its been rock solid.

around/about
I blind-bought Beejive because I got sick of Mobilechat being a broken POS...I must say, it's a phenomenal app - Responsive, slick, beautiful, and functional. Well worth the $10.

Mobilechat wouldn't even allow me to log onto Google Talk. Beejive did so instantly, and with a superior interface to boot. Add to that the fact that they seem genuinely concerned with improving their application, unlike Twenty08 with theirs, and you've got a winner.

Go buy it.
