New development in the iPad's version of the bendgate...

I noticed a defect on the screen and sent the iPad for repair.

Now Apple is telling me that a "bend" was causing the issue by applying extra pressure on the screen. The truth is I never noticed this bend before and it might or might not have been here since the beginning (despite apple saying that this bend could not have been here at the beginning).

Reading all the stories about bent Ipad I'm pretty sure that if I had received it like this brand new and complained about it, Apple would have argue that this bend was "Acceptable" - but now that it affects the screen, they want me to pay 400£ to get it fixed.

I got my case escalated to a senior adviser but they were very arrogant and refused to do anything, saying that they won't fix it for free and that they are happy to send it back un-repaired. I'll eventually go back to an apple store to have another chat with someone but I'm gutted by apple's reaction.

Apple is still Apple and despite what they want you to think they don't care about their customer...
If you lose signal when making a phone-call it's because you are holding it wrong - we don't care
If you iPhone is bent it's because your pockets are too small - we don't care
if your brand new iPad is bend it's due to our manufacturing process - we don't care
But if it's causing the screen to fail then it's your fault because it's bend - we don't care

I don't know how many more have the same issue but my advice is refuse to pay for the repair and make them acknowledge that there is a defect in their products and that they should fix it !

Structurally, the iPad is weak where the mic and the pencil charger are. I don't know if you have had a apple folio on it, but I've been very careful about how it is transported for this reason. That being said, try a different rep and look up videos showing how there is literally no force required and that apple has indicated that thee bend is part of the manufacturing process. I'd try that first where they spoke to it when it launched. Use their own verbiage about deformity being normal against them.

Monday they released 13.2 and bricked 9 of my HomePods and they are very matter of fact about it too. I'm beyond livid, and like you, your options are limited. Document document document everything and work the issue is your only option. I'll have no issue going forward being even more picky in returning products to them if this is the hassle after the return period ends. They are just a company like anyone else. Their wave cannot be ridden forever and when the next big thing knocks them off their perch, brand agnostic customers such as myself will happily migrate where the environment is more prosperous. The walled garden is growing a lot of weeds lately and needs some attention.

I was pretty confident this would happen sooner or later, which is precisely why I ultimately decided to give up on the 11” iPad Pro.

It is going to be interesting to see if there are any significant design changes in the next revision.

It'll be a iPhone 6 to 6S type of modification. They will strengthen the two points I named above similar to the volume rocker on the iPhone. But people also sit on their phones so not sure why you would do that. But it's apparent these iPads cannot hold up to the same durability as a laptop even and they should be more rugged that that.
