I have tried both the USB C cable that came with the monitor (Type C gen 2) and an apple thunderbolt 3 cable
Ye, definitely something wrong here. The short cable came with the monitor should be sufficient...

I've tried thunderbolt 3 cable before, and it simply won't work.

Do you have another computer to test if the problem is with the monitor? Then eliminate where the issue is.

Yes, with my windows laptop it defaults to RGB as it should be. That is with HDMI, however same HDMI cable on the M1 mini becomes YPbPr

@jelu77 did you manage to get RGB working to the 2720 over an M1 Mac? Thanks.
Yes I did, by activating Smart HDR in the OSD menu. HDR mode probably trigger the Mac M1 to think the Dell U2720Q is a monitor and not a TV. However, I cannot not see any noticeable difference (at least for me). In RGB mode I also get 24 bit color vs 30 bit in YPbPr.

@jelu77 @pingchp @spazmr34 Have any of you had issues with your u2720q turning to a blank lit screen when your computer has gone to sleep? Just got an M1 Air and use it in clamshell mode. Most times that I put the computer to slee by leaving it idle, the screen will eventually shut off, but then turn back on with just the backlight.

I do not have this issue, however my Mac is on 24/7 and only screen sleep activated

+1 on the 27uk850 27" 4K monitor and I have the Belkin Thunderbolt 3 Pro dock. Still debating on M1 vs Intel for my refresh.

Below is from another forum: https://gist.github.com/adaugherity/7435890

User jcgrant80 reached out to SwitchResX, their reply:

"Hi John

I strongly invite you to file a feedback for enhancement at Apple. They decided the M1 Macs should manage the monitors like the AppleTV, and it works in most cases. but they removed HiDPI for displays that are not large enough and they don't allow for any enhancement at all.
No custom resolutions, no EDID overriding for displays that are not correctly recognized. I think this is a mistake but I'm not at the decision level for this. If enough people report their display management should be strongly customizable again, maybe they'll consider it. I can't imagine they would encourage all their users to only buy Apple XDR displays....

regards"

I have a late 2019 27” iMac 5k retina. I found recently that I need more workspace . Thought I’d be able to just buy a monitor only equivalent and found out apple stopped making them in 2016. Given that the screen is one of the main selling points of iMac you would expect to be able to simply buy an additional screen. Their supported option is LG ultra fine but there no stock, then I see lot of complaints about them. Makes sense that apple stopped stocking them as seems so many were returned. Possibly a new 27” product will be out soon ? Apple should really be solving this issue.

I have BenQ PD2700U it will 3840x2160 @60 hz no problem. I use a separate TB3 to HDMI cable. I usually run the monitor are 3008x1692 @60hz because the higher resolution are too small for me.
Do you know if the PD2700U will do 4k@60 from an M1 Mac using the monitor's DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort? I have the same monitor and have 1 DisplayPort in use and the HDMI is also in use. This leaves me with the Mini DisplayPort input available.

Yes I did, by activating Smart HDR in the OSD menu. HDR mode probably trigger the Mac M1 to think the Dell U2720Q is a monitor and not a TV. However, I cannot not see any noticeable difference (at least for me).
This gives an interesting twist to the whole "Dell monitors on M1"-problem. I have two U2413 which are an eye sore with my M1 mini, so I thought I might as well upgrade to a 4K monitor. But now it looks like the best one is - once again - a Dell, the U2720Q (I don't really want to get the LG 27UL850 because of its issues on Windows)...

So, from this thread, what I can tell is that the problem with the U2720Q being recognised as a TV is not as big of a problem as on my U2413 but I'd still want to run it in RGB mode. So if turning on Smart HDR accomplishes that, that would be great. But I'm new to this HDR thing. Are there any disadvantages in having that switched on?

Have the Ultrafine LG27MD5KL-B. Got it as "refreshed" on Amazon and added 4 year protection plan. Works great.

I will be able to tell youat the end of February. Ordered a pair of U2720Q and a Mini 16/512. Will receive all three items on February 26.

I have the lg 27uk850 27" 4K monitor. I like it. I run it via Displayport through a CalDigit ts3 plus hub. All of my peripherals (two drives, mic, webcam, usb hub, usb lights, external speakers, and a few other misc items run through the CalDigit hub. I have only on USB4 connection to my M1 Air. So far so good.

I have the same monitor. Have you experienced the bug where the M1 Mac will wake up the display every few minutes when it should be sleeping?

anyone have issues with m1 macbook failing to wake up external display after it has gone to sleep for a couple hours?
I have my external display connected via displayport using caldigit ts3+.
only way to wake up display again is by reconnecting the usb-c cable that is going from caldigit dock to the laptop

I have an LG 27UD58P that seems to work great with my M1 Macbook Air (connected through a USB-C to Displayport cable). I also (separately) use a Targus DOCK190USZ-81 in the other port for all my peripherals and charging. Seems to be a good setup...

So it appears that my monitor is rather hard to find....never mind on that...sorry. It does work great if you can get your hands on one. ?‍♂️

Razer has a Thunderbolt 4 dock available for pre-order that might be worth considering for those looking. It’s supposed to be compatible with Big Sur and the current Apple Silicon products.

Picked up the LG27un850-w. Don't need a dock as all the ports I need are on the back of the monitor and one usb-c going into the monitor that also charges the laptop at 60 watts.

Be of advice please: I've never used a monitor before but am looking to getting the LG UHD 27UL850 to use with my M1 MBP. Question; do I need anything else to connect it to my Mac? The LG comes with a USB-c to USB-c cable. Is that all I need? Thanks.

id go with the 27UN850. It's the newer 2020 model. I have it and like it. I just use the included USB-C cable and its fine.

Yes
I'm quite happy with my non-powered Aceele USB Hub 3.0 for keyboard and such. It handles the dull stuff nicely, and leaves me a back of Mac port free. The Philips 4K goes through HDMI, and I send the old 1920 thru Thunderbolt to DVI-D.
The other new mini only got a second Philips 1920 display. That works quite well through the Plugable 7-in-1 USB C Hub Multiport Adapter with Ethernet. Weird thing, but it works, and it's cheaper than spending another $250 on a display. A cheap (Amazon Basics) 4 port hub runs my Epson scanner nicely. Printer (P2015dn) is now ethernet.
Genuine 7 port USBC/Thunderbolt hubs are hard to find. With 40GB/sec XFer between my internal SSD drive and ext 2TB SSD's I can live.

Been looking at this one and it seems to tick all the boxes for me. I currently use a 24” Monitor for work and the size is right for me. I was a little worried that the 27” might be a bit big for the space I have. This 25” Dell seems a good comparative. Anyone tried one?

Dell U2520D UltraSharp USB-C 25 Inch QHD (2560 x 1440) Monitor, 60 Hz, IPS, 5ms, HDR, 2 x USB-C, 2 x DisplayPort, HDMI, 3 x USB, Adjustable Stand (Height, Pivot, Swivel, Tilt), 3-Year Warranty , Black
