I’m charging my 13PM with a 5 watt brick overnight and when not in a hurry. It’s great, phone doesn’t get warm at all. Only bummer is I couldn’t find a 5 watt USB-C brick.

I still have a fast charge Anker USB-C brick and the included cable, which I’ll of course use if I need a quick boost. But given the stellar battery life on this phone I don’t expect to need to use fast charging very often.
yeah i couldn't find one either! so what are you using as a 5w brick? i tend to use Apple only but they don’t have a USB 5w

what method do you use?
I charged my 11 Pro every night overnight with the 18W Apple charger and charged it for about 30 minutes every night around dinnertime. After 2 years my battery is at 100%. I had optimization on the entire time.

ah okay, so it’ll be fine for me to charge it overnight on the 20w charger and not harm my battery at all?!

Once the battery charge gets above 85% or so, it doesn’t matter how big the charger is. All the phones throttle down the current when the battery starts getting full.
At 90% charge, a 30 watt power supply will be putting out the same current as a 5 watt power supply.

I have the iPhone 13, it's my first iPhone. I switched from android. The first few days I didn't realize it needed a 20w battery 😬 I was using the 5w that I had for my airpods. It was charging soooo slow I thought my phone was faulty so I contacted Apple they ran a battery test and said it was perfect. So I started doing some research and found out I needed another adapter. I just bought the Apple 20w & it is super fast now.
I try to charge once it gets to 20% sometimes 30% and charge it until it's 90%. I charged overnight once or twice but haven't done that again. But like you I want to keep my battery health high! I have the battery optimization turned on. And I have background refresh off for most apps.

I am just the opposite. I get a new phone every year and don't worry about battery health. If I am not actively using my phone, it is sitting someplace on a wireless charger or plugged in. I have wireless chargers next to my bed, in my home office, and my work office. In my cars, it is plugged in.

My phone seldom goes below 80%, and more often, close to 100%. The only exception is when I am out and about all day long, and even then, I never really have a problem. When I trade it in a year later, it still works fine for me.

I use a HomeKit smart plug and have it shut off charging at 85%. This way when I go to charge while I am sleeping, the phone won’t be connected to power after it finished charging. I usually put the phone on charging when the battery hits about 20%. I use a 5 or 12 watt charger.

As I mentioned in another post, my release date 12PM’s battery health is surprisingly still 100%. One thing I figure contributes to this is I rarely keep it plugged when charged to 100%, most of time I unplugged it at around 80%.

Edit: Reminded by others’ posts, I don’t use magsafe or wireless charging (my charging mat is for AirPods), but I do use 20w wired so I usually retrieve it in an hour. Optimized charging is useless for me though as my charging routine has no pattern at all.

Hey, what’s the best routine to charge my new iphone 13 pro max? i’m worried that if i charge it overnight every night it’ll make the battery bad, i did the same on my 12 and it was at 91%! anyone got any tips? thanks
I was in the same boat with that 12 Pro Max battery (83% health, absolutely horrible! Good riddance to that thing) I know it's only been 9 days, but so far, VERY VERY little Mag Safe w/ 20W brick, just using old school wired with the old 5W brick. I don't charge it overnight. See what happens.

Right now, battery life is pretty darn amazing, hope it lasts. Or lasts a heck of a lot longer than the 12 did.

Can you use a HomeKit smart plug together with a Belkin 3 in 1 charger? Or does the phone need to be plugged into the smart plug directly?

I always charged all my phones at night from the chargers from the kit. Now I have an iphone X, which is already 4 years old and an 87% battery. Optimized charging enabled

Yes. You plug the Belkin into the smart plug. This is the smart I am using which just happens to be by Belkin.

I got a 12 Pro Max on launch day, used almost exclusively MagSafe/Qi charging with it (mostly overnight with optimized charging turned on), and the battery health was still at 100% when I replaced it with a 13PM last week.

I agree with the people saying just use the phone how you want. What is all the stressing and micromanaging of charging habits going to net you? An extra couple of months before you need to replace the battery? Batteries are going to wear out no matter what, and I don't think it's worth the effort to try to extend their life a tiny bit when I'm probably going to replace the device before it ever becomes an issue anyway. And if I were keeping my phones for like 4/5 years, then I'd need to replace the battery no matter what, so why worry?

Thanks for the reply! They don’t sell that here in Australia so got a meross instead.

Are you able to share your shortcut settings for stopping the charger at 80%? Sorry I’m new to shortcuts and smart homes.

There are 2 parts to this, add the smart plug in the Home app and create an automation to control when to turn off the smart plug from the Shortcut app.

Hone app:

When you get the smart plug, you will add it as a device to the Home app devices. In the Home app, press "+", "Add Accessory, follow the instructions given. Test to make sure that the smart plug is working by pressing on the smart plug device.

I created 2 Home app scenes, one to turn the smart plug on and the another to turn the smart plug off. Press "+', "Add Scene". Name the screen and select the smart plug device. Do the same thing for the other scene. Test to make sure the scenes work by pressing on each of them.

Shortcuts app "My Shortcuts" :

I created 2 shortcuts, one to turn on the smart plug and the other to turn off the smart plug. The reason for these is so that you can add them to your home page and use them directly. There is no way to add a Home app scene directly to the home page.

The shortcut for turning on the smart plug, in the shortcut app, "My Shortcuts", press '+' to add a new shortcut. Give the shortcut a name. "Add Action", select "Apps", select the Home app, select the scene you created to turn on the smart plug. It will be named "Run <scene name>". Next to the shortcut name field, is a blue circle, press on that and "Add to Home Screen". To complete the shortcut, pass the "x" in the upper right hand corner.

Do the same thing again for the short to turn off the smart plug.

Shortcuts app "Automation" :

Next comes creating the actual automation. In the Shortcuts app, select "Automation". Press the "+' in the upper hand corner, select "Create Personal Automation". Scroll down on the list and select "Battery Level". Select the kind of trigger you want, "Next", "Add Action", "Apps", Home app, select the scene you created to turn off the smart plug. It will be named "Run <scene name>". Disable "Ask Before Running", "Done".

Now use the automation.

When you want to charge something, select the shortcut you put on your home page to turn on the smart plug. Place your phone or whatever on the charger and when the battery level, on your phone, reaches the target trigger, the smart plug will be turned off.

That is all there is to it.

Thanks for the detailed steps! I’ll try it out when I get my new smart plug! :D

I remember your horrible 12PM battery life in a previous thread. Glad to see you made it over to the 13PM side. My 12PM still lives on as my spouse’s phone, however I did complain loud enough at my local Apple Store for them to let me purchase a battery replacement early once the 12PM hit 88%.

Do not use MagSafe or shall I say ScamSafe. Or your battery will be gone after a year due to the amount of power and strain it puts on your battery ...

As long as you don't use a 5$ flea market charger ,your batteries will be fine! 🤓🤓🤓
