That will be awesome! From A10X to A12, what a great improvement! :)

That might be not as big as you think...The A10X is not the A10 and the A10X is more powerful in some cases than the A11. A bigger jump would be from A10X to A12X....

"since ipad air 1 " :)
iPad Air had A7. The X with beefed up GPU actually started with the retina display iPad 3. All retina iPads had the X chips bar the mini line and Air 1 (likely due to thermal dissipation issues), and basic iPads (I assume for budgetary reasons).

Actually the thread I referred to mentioned the A12X for the new iPhones and iPads. Wish I could remember the title. I did reply to it so maybe click on my username and go back to May. It should pop up. If you can’t find it I’ll do it tomorrow from the laptop.

Yeah, I agree with you. A series chip with X is designed for flagship iPads (except A7 for iPad Air, iPad mini 2) and the opposite is for non-iPad iOS devices. AX chips have more horsepower and can fully support heavy graphics. I really hope that next gen iPad Pro can have A12X ! :p Well, fall is coming and new hardwares are also coming.

But having A12X in 2018 may still be a unreachable goal because every flagship iPad hasn’t skipped numbers in chips yet (They are following the pattern of consecutive numbers):

2010: iPad 1, A4
2011: iPad 2, A5
2012: iPad 3, A5X; iPad 4, A6X
2013: iPad Air, iPad mini 2, A7
2014: iPad Air 2, A8X
2015: 1st gen 12.9 inch iPad Pro, A9X
2016: 9.7 inch iPad Pro, A9X
2017: 2nd gen 12.9 inch iPad Pro, 10.5 inch iPad Pro, A10X

So the next gen iPad Pro will probably have A11X chip? I’m not sure, but I hope that it will be A12X.

i wonder if it will look like that...since samsung remove the home button too

Wow that New Tab from Sammie looks like a piece of F***** Marvel !! Samsung has really pulled off something interesting here ! That screen with such a big display, narrow bezels and Super Amoled Display is a delight a treat for the eyes. I wonder what is holding Apple back for the Super Amoled Displays on their iPad ! now hold on ! Hold on ! Don't just get started guys !!Before people start blasting me by giving an excuse Apple will not get displays for their iPad if they go Super Amoled ! How is Samsung gonna get it for this one the Samsung Galaxt Tab 4 ??

It is all there it is just that Apple doesn't want to dish out to its consumers everything in one go ! That is just like a blood sucking pest !!

That’s my reasoning for the new iPad Pros having the A11x; they wouldn’t just skip it?

True but thus far, they also haven't released the A#X chips after the next A# has already been released.

Great video, but the TabS4 won’t get any Android updates past a year. And it’s always silly to me how Samsung packs more features into its Phones than its tablets.

Edited:

Likely because there Galaxy tablets require more features to be attractive to the consumer because there is so much competition against the iPad. Samsung‘s phones embed plenty of technology, but what diversifies their Tablets from their smart phone line up is not mutually exclusive. But I also think it’s equally
important that the tablet from Samsung and their Galaxy smart phone lineup is not too much of the same, as you do want some core differences between the two.

What’s the relevance comparing a Samsung Galaxy tablet to an iPhone (More specifically,
iOS?) Two things that are not mutually exclusive.
Isn’t he saying that it’s silly how Samsung packs more features into THEIR phones vs tablets? Didn’t scroll up but the excerpt here doesn’t mention iPhone at all.

You’re correct. Mis-read. I will edit my post something relevant based off what the OP was referring too.

Agree with all of this. I think its more likely they’ll announce A12/X across all new iOS devices this fall (new iPhones and iPads). It’ll be weird for iPads to get full generation older at this point.

You can see from the past several years where they slipped behind:

2015: iPhone gets A9, 12.9” got A9X, and the 9.7” slipped into early 2016. If the 9.7 launched alongside the 12.9, then 2016 would have been no iPad Pro updates at all.

I guess there is a chance iPad Pro will get A11X this fall with the volume of A12 needed to ramp up for an iPhone launch. Hopefully they all go A12 though.

If the next gen iPad Pro's launch with the new iPhones, they'll probably have the A11X and the iPhones will have the A12.

If they don't launch together, then perhaps we'll see an October/November release for the new iPad Pro's sporting the A12X.

Keep in mind tho...every iPad that comes out will be replaced by newer better iPads the following year. For example, let’s say the next iPad uses face ID with slimmer bezels and is totally awesome. You are psyched and you immediately buy it. Then the rumors start that the next iPad in 2019 will be even more awesome. It will have an OLED screen where the one you buy only has an LED screen. Do you regret your purchase? Eventually you have to just say I am buying NOW cause I need to buy now. Cause if you don’t, you’ll be playing the waiting game forever.

That is so true! I had the original 12" iPad Pro. I wanted a new one and looked at the 10"iPad Pro. I heard rumors about another new iPad with no official release date. So, I thought I can either wait on something that may or may not be released soon with features I have no knowledge of or buy what's out that I can see, feel and touch. I chose option 2. I only play the waiting game when I know when something is coming out and the features of the new model. Even then, I still may not wait on it.

Somebody in the other thread tried telling me that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 the new one, has a Snadragon 835 processor which is a little trailing than the chip in the current iPad Pro's 10.5" is it ? is this Apple Apologists Lobby or it really does matters ?

Not sure if oled will come on iPads to be honest. Guess depends on the panels.

It’s highly unlikely, at least in the main IPad Pro line. Phones are one thing — very few people spend hours at a time with a single type of content on the screen — but productivity users would soon find the UI of OneNote (or Procreate, Notability, etc.) burned into the display. It isn’t uncommon to spend hours per day on the same UI if you’re using the device for work.

OLED burn-in resistence has not improved as much as it’s proponents would suggest, at least not enough to use it for a proper monitor for static content.

What really baffles me is When people say oh well ! Apple is not ready with the supply of its OLED Panels to be included in the iPad Line up ?? I mean what kind of effing answer is that ?? Samsung for its flagship Tab Galaxy S4 announced just days back from where are they getting the AMOLED Panels ?? It is a different story if Samsung is not ready to share its proprietary technology with a vendor company like Apple !! But I mean supplies are not available for AMOLED panels for iPad !! That is one of the ridiculous excuse I have ever heard ! It's all there already !!

The first AMOLED Displays from the Samsung Galaxy Tab S are from 2014. If Apple can buy the Samsung AMOLED phone displays the should also be able to buy the tablet displays....

First, a replacement to the iPad Pro's display must be at least 120Hz. Less than that and it will be perceived as a downgrade considering what a big deal Apple made of ProMotion last year.

Also, while the Galaxy Tab S may have had AMOLED for a while, how many of it does Samsung sell? Manufacturing 500,000 would have different impact versus manufacturing a few million. The 10.5" and 12.9" displays on the Pros also mean there's less room for error as compared to the 5.8" iPhone X. Also, Samsung manufactures the displays. Apple has to buy the displays from Samsung so there's Samsung's profits added to the cost.

Cook is primarily a bean counter. When the confluence of mass production and costs align, I expect that's when we'll see an AMOLED iPad and not before.
