I've been thinking, due to swipe up/down gestures becoming a significant focus on the iPhone X, whether it'd be better to have no case coverage on the bottom/top edges of the device?

If there were no edges, then it'd minimise the chances of a 'missed' gesture.

For eg.
I know with my current 6s case, when using Google Maps, when swiping up with the aim to access the Control Centre, I sometimes bring up the Google Maps men. With the X, & having a case lip on that lower edge, I can see me doing this more often..

I'm rethinking what may make my ideal, ergonomic iPhone X case now...

• Thin/Minimalist
• Smooth Matt & slightly grippy surface all round, with no grooves that collect dust, dead skin cells etc..
• Flat back (no camera, nor camera hole bumps)
• Matt Black must be a colour option
• Lay on the table lip on the front
• Exposed top & bottom edges for easy swipe gesturing & unimpeded speaker holes/Lightning port

If anyone knows a case that ticks all the above boxes, I'd appreciate it big time! :D

UAG Pathfinder Case for the iPhone X in the house...

QwdXVdi.jpg

Bought it from UAG directly.
[doublepost=1506823775][/doublepost]This has to be one of the ugliest cases I have ever seen, you completely destroy the asthectics of the iphone X, you should just get an Android phone and bury it in that case

FYI, ThanoTech K11 Bumper for the iPhone X preorder just went live today.

https://www.thanotech.com/products/k11-bumper-for-iphone-x?variant=9280255427

I’m a big fan of bumpers, but could never find one to my liking. I tried the RhinoShield CrashGuard but returned it right away. Too bulky and slick in the hand. I’ll give the ThanoTech K11 Bumper a try. It’s gripper than previous versions.

I remember when these first came out there was a question of reception interfering. I wonder if that’s changed since the new one is made from stainless steel instead of aluminum, or if it’s still an issue with that material.

If it protects, it’ll be interesting to compare to the new Rhinoshield Mod.

Interesting. Yeah many bumbers are too bulky, but this one does seem thinner. Curious to see how it is.

Per the FAQs, they fixed the problem by putting a layer of TPU under the aluminum. Now they are using stainless steal, so I still don’t expect there to any issues.

Agreed. The RhinoShield CrashGuard is too bulky. Their new Mod is slightly slimmer, but the ThanoTech K11 is even slimmer.

The latest version (iPhone 7/7+) has gotten great reviews on YouTube. I suspect the one for the iPhone X will be even better.

Now my dilemma is space gray or silver iPhone X. That’s a convo for another thread ;) I’m leaning towards preordering the iPhone X Silver, thus will preorder the ThanoTech K11 Silver.

Call me crazy, but I've just added the Apple silicon case to my list of potential purchases.

Nothing wrong with the Apple silicone case. It’s actually one of my go-to cases. Great feel and form factor.

Good to know.

I gather the only issue is dust collection on older versions?

Do they last?

I like the open bottom edge for Home screen gesturing & thin profile.

I was at the Apple Store yesterday and handled the new silicone cases (new colors) for the iPhone 8. They still collect dust, but maybe not as much as previous versions.

They do last. No issues for me, although it’s not my daily driver, so I don’t abuse it like others may do.

I agree with you on the open bottom edge and thin profile!

Does anyone know when the apple leather cases for the X will be available to purchase?

Oh so you use multiple cases eh. This is perhaps why I’m being fussy with my decision - I buy one case only for my device, so it needs to be perfect :D. The X’s edge to edge form factor makes the perfect case a bit of an unknown however imo, so I’m eager for many case reviews to pop up online before purchasing.

Yes, but only 2-3. My current arsenal for my iPhone 7 is Magpul field case, Apple silicone and Apple leather. I’m a big fan of bumpers but could never find one that was good quality and slim. That being said, I’m going to preorder the ThanoTech K11 Bumper, order an Apple silicone case and call it a day! Unless I change my mind, LOL!

Apple’s silicone case is the best case

Agreed. If I could only have one case, the Apple silicone would be it.

Wondering this myself, wanted to purchase now so I have it when I get my X. Probably will not be available to order until 10/27 when the X goes on sale.

Yep. I ordered an iPhone 7 leather case when the iPhone 7 preorders went live. I actually received the case a few days prior to receiving the iPhone 7.

Thanks for the Apple silicone case recommendations. It may end up being my best all-round case also. Can I ask if certain colours tend to fade over time? It shouldn’t be an issue for me as I’ll most likely get the black, which I’d think would be least susceptible to fading?

That’s ideal. I’ve done the same in the past. Hence my thorough research now for a case & screen protector.

Although the screen protector isn’t as difficult to decide on - always gone the the bestskinsever brand. & I’ve just had an email back saying they’re about to appear on their website (@ 25% off) but shipping won’t happen until the phone’s launch.

I have lime green, light blue and midnight blue. None of them have faded. I plan on getting cobalt blue or dark olive for my silver iPhone X :)

Did you ever have one before? I really like them but my 6 Plus and 7 Plus cases are slippery. Are the new ones different?

Caudabe finally got back to me regarding the camera bump on the Lucid Clear Case:

“It sure does! It's not very prominent (doesn't have to be since the case is about as thick as the protrusion, but it's there by design. You won't get a huge amount of rocking though.”

Meh! Might scratch this one off the list, or maybe give it a whirl.

I have the Caudabe Lucid Clear for my iPhone 7. Just thought I’d chime in and give some feedback. I don’t notice any rocking of the phone, when it’s laid down in a flat surface. The case has very good clarity and also provides good grip. It’s also pretty easy to install and remove. Compared to the Sheath, the grip and and feel of the case is much better (to me). The sandpaper feel of the Sheath sometimes bothers me, especially when my hands are dry.

I have noticed two things that have me slightly considering whether or not to keep it.

1. It does allow dust and small particles into the case, mostly through the camera cut out. I think it’s probably the nature of harder materials. They don’t create as much of a seal with the phone. I have better results with the sheath on this front.

2. I have noticed a couple scratches and a good bit of micro-scratches on the case, which is making me question the scratch resistant coating they claim on it. I saw the same thing with tech21’s impact clear case, which is made of the same material. I think I can live with it, as long as it doesn’t end up looking awful.
