So without counting the XDR $5000 monitor what are some other monitors you recommend for docking the new MacBook Pro 2021 model / around a 27-32” screen?

Also interested to know ideas. I thought we would see an affordable version of the pro XDR apple monitor today a long with the mac mini.

Not sure wether to wait and gamble the rumours are true or to buy a 3rd party monitor. I could do with one with a web cam. The lg 5k seemed decent but seems sparse when trying to buy

I think the LG UltraFine 5K is in stock in the Apple Store? I'm considering one of those, in part because I have a credit at the Apple Store that I'd like to use. Otherwise, I'd consider the 32" BenQ 4K IPS HDR monitor, which seems to get (mostly) good reviews. I wish Apple had a less ridiculously priced Pro XDR!

I'm in the same boat. I really miss the 27" 5K iMac display... 4K has a strange PPI at 27", it's good at 32" but for me personally, 32" is just too big for the distance I sit / depth of my desk.

However, to complement the new screens you really want a monitor with 1000nits and 96%+ P3 color!
Is there a monitor that fits that description? Looks like the LG only has 500 nits. Not sure what % of the P3 color it covers?

Take a look at DELL and LG offers with 4K and USB-C power delivery. Other than that If you think a ultrawide would fit your workflow look into the 5K and 3440x1440 displays.

I wish something like that ASUS proart had a 1ms response time and a 144hz RR. Perhaps it’s just not technically possible.

I want something epic to go with the mbp / mm but also hook up to my pc for gaming.

Don’t think anything like that exists. Anything for gaming suffers with local dining, contrast, colour etc

Recently received a Dell U4021W from work. Enjoying it greatly.

40” with a 5K2K resolution, so effectively a near-retina ultrawide

EDIT: Just seen that this doesn’t fall within your size requirements, but will leave it here in case it helps anyone else.

Not within the size listed but I’ll be using my odyssey g9 that is currently used by my nvlink 3090 rig.

Thanks for posting this. Looks like the LG UltraFine 5K Display is a good choice, given that it is retina and hits the 220 PPI target, and covers >99% of the P3 gamut. The problem is that it's only 500 nits, rather than 1,000. But my iMac retina display is 500 nits, and I've never felt that it wasn't bright enough.

48” LG OLED period. Grabbed one $799 Clearance floor model. But LG gives you full warranty
I'm really warming to this idea of using the LG OLED - especially as LG announced a 42" OLED. But the 48" would also be ok.

Questions though.

I don't know how to get 120hz via HDMI and what's possible.

These Macs only have HDMI 2.0
If I used a display port to HDMI dongle would the LG display full res 120Hz?

I also want to plug in a PC for gaming. I will need a display port to HDMI adapter for that too. Would that also do 1440p at 120Hz.

The LG OLED is currently the ONLY display solution that does
- high res
- colour accuracy
- good contrast
- 1ms response
- 120hz for gaming and smooth scrolling

There are mini led monitors coming out but they are 3x the price and still only do 60hz like the Apple XDR

Just ordered the 16" M1 Max, what monitor would people go for?

LG don't appear to have any LG 27MD5K-B Ultrafine 27-inch in the UK that i can find.

What sort of monitor are you looking for?
What will you be using it for?
What’s your budget?

I'm hoping that my LG UltraFine 27" 5k monitor will be compatible with the new 14". I can't see why it wouldn't be..
I love the screen, its just beautiful and the fact that there is 1 cable that transmits/chargers the MBP makes it even more likeable.
Highly recommended.

As @kart says the LG Ultrafine 5K monitor is a beautiful monitor and it is certainly still for sale on the CA Apple Store.
