Odd the Performance loss should only be about 3% with mixed sizes (near balanced) so long as it's a 4 or more DIMMS* 4 6 8 and 12 Dimms Basically.

The way I understand it you put the higher ones in Channel A then B etc. So... the 32s go in 8 and 10. and 8s in 1,3,5,12

Your 4x8+2x32 config suggestion lowered my GB Multicore score from 12805 to 12703
Stock 4x8 was 14064.

^^^^I have a post in the marketplace asking if anyone would be willing to sell me their 8GB DIMMs after they upgrade. I would luv to populate all twelve slots with 8GB Modules. That would be my first choice. And, I don't think I will be mixing capacities.

link to marketplace post ( can't even find a marketplace :) ). I'll sell mine depends where you are I suppose?

Fair enough. So no real change then. 100 could be entirely dependent on background processes.

It does say about putting in the highest first. But perhaps that's for when you have 8 Dimms in the 6 channels... who knows!? It's a mystery in a confusion wrapped in a confuddlement.

I put the Crucial's in 2 and 11

Is this ONLY the 2 Dimms? Can you run a Geekbench?

I bought my Mac Pro with 48 GB (6x8) and added 192 (6x32), but the perf loss was noticeable. 20850 (192GB, 6x32) vs 18500 (240GB, mixed) in GB5. I've removed the 48GB for now, and I probably wont ever mix sizes... Its worth it only if you absolutely need the memory - then of course it'll be faster than the system using a swap on the SSD.

Since I got the base 32GB, 4x8GB configuration, I guess if I'm going for a cheap upgrade I'll get another 2x8GB sticks to maintain sizes and utilize the 6 channel throughput. The wife already wants to beat me for getting the MacPro! lol

Where may I look for used 8GB modules that came with the 2019 Mac Pro? I'd like to get 8 of them.

I have 6 of them (I bought 48GB and ended up upgrading all of them...), PM me an offer if you’re interested.

I'm definitely interested. Give me time to look for "comparables" as I have no idea what a fair price would be at the moment.

Thanks,

Tom

PS: Do you have an idea for a price? PM me if so!

I tried to figure out how to send a PM. Is that is what's called a "Conversation?" I did start one of those...

Just to be sure before buying... anybody tested this specific RAM on his 7.1? Is the single rank model:
I plan to install 6x32GB and add another 192GB when needed.

They also have a couple models with similar specs, the difference is that are dual rank and x4/x8 based:

Price it’s the same for all three, I can also find it cheaper on other store, any reason to choose the latest two instead of the first one?

Also, is there a good reason to choose an LRDIMM instead of the RDIMM?

So I have the 16-core 32gb version, and just bought 4x32gb sticks from Nemix. Should I mix them or just use the 32gb ones?

From what I understand, mixing sizes will yield lower Geekbench scores. In my case, I’m mixing 8GB and 16GB sticks. My Geekbench score went down about 2000 points. How much does it really count in day to day usage? It only depends how one uses his machine. If every second is important to you, I would say don’t mix it. Otherwise, don’t worry about it much ;)

The best configuration is either 6 or 12 of the exact same size, brand, and specification memory. I believe with 12 sticks of dual-rank R-DIMMs will provide the highest bandwidth of any configuration from what I'm able to figure out from the Intel spec sheets.
