I currently use 2 AirTags. One of them is on my wallet (it has a slot for an AirTag) and the other is on my house keys keychain. The wallet one has helped massively a few times when I accidentally left it in the car (if I don’t find it where I expect it to be, it means it is either somewhere close or somewhere safe). Been thinking of getting one for the car keys, but haven’t found a nice keychain for it yet.

Old thread, I know but I use an AirTag for this as well. I have a wallet with a slot for the AirTag and have had more than one instance of either leaving my wallet in the car or in my office desk when I leave the house. Getting the notification that I left it behind and going back to retrieve it has saved me a lot of hassle.

Based on your own personal experience, what have you found to be the best use of your AirTags?

For me:

1st Locating a lost checked bag on an airline flight (Happened only once but ended up being really important)

2nd Finding my misplaced keys
Yesterday, our little puppy did a runner, and for 4 hours, the world ended. My wife was heartbroken, we drove streets left, right and centre. Posted in all the lost and found boards etc. 4 hours later he turned up at our gate looking for food. All's well that ends well. Sitting in my drawer, of course I had two spare AirTags. Yesterday I ordered two dog collar AirTag holders from Amazon. They've just arrived, and now both dogs are AirTagged. Apart from my suitcases when travelling, it's the dogs now that are the most important. PS All my keys have Tiles on, and I find them much better around the house to find because they make a much louder chirp.

A phone with precision finding > Tile beep. Plus if a device is lost in the real world, what are the odds of a random person carrying a device with the Tile app installed vs a person carrying a stock iPhone?

That said, third party trackers have all sorts of different beeps and tones, even flashing lights! Worth looking into if you want more Find My devices but dont want to pay AirTag money. Side note, 3rd party tags do not support precision finding.

Glad you hear you got your dogs back!

Nothing special - keychain and wallet.
Put one in your car.

Ideally a cheap third party one with a neutered speaker so a would be thief couldn't ever find it, even if they get notified there is one following them.

Thank me later.

Been thinking about this for my other (unused) AirTag but that speaker/chirp is a decent point since it can be weeks that I'm not with my car.
