MBPr 2016, Update beta 8 killed external 4k Monitor (at work) connected via USB-C to DisplayPort adapter. The LG 5k monitor, sold by Apple, connected via USB-C runs fine (but at home). The LG monitor powers the MBPr at home, I use a separate power adapter at work but not the original Apple product.
Tomorrow, I will give the original Apple power adapter a try. I already tried to connect the 4k monitor with the original Apple hdmi adapter but still no luck.
The 4k monitor is recognized, the screen on the MBPr flashes like it does when a new display is plugged in, but the external monitor stays blank and I can't even move the mouse pointer to the blank device. So it is no hardware problem.
Going back to beta 7 was no success and I can't load the beta 6.

I have a workaround! kind of... I moved my Apple TV into my office and connected it to my display. And then connecting to the Apple TV in the display prefs.

(So I think that means it is going over my Wifi, and then from Apple TV through HDMI)

So far I am only getting 1080p even though it is an Apple TV 4K (My monitor is HP ENVY 32 which is QHD 2560x1440)

In any case - figured I would share, as it has taken the sting out a bit :)

(Note - this is my VERY first ever Mac beta experience... lol... I glanced around and saw big warnings in Aug, but most things said it was pretty good now... and then this major problem... It does seem like a major oversight this far in... I saw some post about them taking 6 months to fix in Big Sur???? I really hope this is fixed much faster than that!!! I did the beta mainly because I wanted the new tags in reminders to match my iPad/iPhone :) )

Yeah, by definition, it's bound to be a more bumpy road. Best to install betas on lesser used Macs, if you have them. Keep your production machine / volume on a currently supported production release.

macOS 12 Monterey Full Installer Database. Download Directly from Apple!
links are directly from apple servers so it should be safe to use. Note that I opted for beta 6 since you can create a usb installer with it where with beta 7 it fails to do so.
It will break your Photo Library thou...

good to know! hmm I never realized! don't use photos much on my Mac. but mostly iPhone and iPad so it shouldn't be an issue in the short term until we get back external monitors in the next beta hopefully.

Hi All

Same issue here, MBP2016 49 inch Samsung external monitor not working after Beta 8.

find the work around by using Dell docking station (have one laying around) connected to USB C from the hub and HDMI connection out of the hub.

However the hub is not strong enough to power the 49 inch, so I connect it to 34 inch Kogan monitor.

Works fine now, till waiting for the next beta

This is the worst beta ever, In my opinion Apple try to play around with lower power mode (environment/green) issue when they messed up the power distribution through the USB C/Thunderbolt.

Just my 5 cents worth of opinion

Cheers

Same here, MBP 2016 15, have two Dell U2719D connected to a Caldigit TS3 doc and then to DP and no image on either. USB devices connected to the monitors and to the TS3 work normally and the MBP charges from the TS3 as normal. Tried a Belkin USB-C to HDMI dongle and the same happens.

I have filed a bug report under "External Monitors not Working" yesterday but it says "No similar reports". How have you guys reported this, i.e., under which category?

Have you tried to just connect one monitor instead of 2, also have you tried HDMi instead of DP

I logged it under "Display" if im not mistaken (cant remembered exactly)

Cheers

I was so hoping that beta 9 might come out today (which would be early on the normal schedule), but was really hoping they'd get a fix out quickly. I miss my external monitors.

Download Beta 6 and install on top. I didn't make a bootable drive, just ran the installer, 45 min and I have my monitors back. Now waiting for Beta 9 or an RC.

You know, I tried it but all it did was re-install 8. Unless I did something wrong, but I was pretty sure I downloaded the right link from Mr MacIntosh

Question, is this Display Port monitor problem only on unsupported Macs, or is it effecting current, still supported Macs?

Mine's a 2012 unsupported rMBP 2012 with OCLP on board and it does have this problem. If the scope of the problem is wider than just us ruffians with unsupported Macs that would rule out OCLP as needing work, since Apple will definitely have to fix it first for their supported machines.

Probably goes without saying, but I just thought I'd highlight this.

Attempted to download Beta6 from Mr. Macintosh site but it keeps disconnecting and the download speed is very slow. I'll just have to deal with working on my 13-inch MBP screen for now.

I'm done with betas for awhile on iOS and Mac OS. No one to blame but myself. Hopefully, Apple comes out with a fix soon.

So when I download (using Chrome... when I used Safari I had the same issue with the file from Mr Macintosh acting weird) I get the smaller InstallAssistant.pkg. I then run it and I get an updated Install macOS Monterey.app. When I run that, it just reinstalls Beta 8.
Is there a different step you did? Is there something I'm missing that would prevent it from installing Beta 6? It's confused the heck out of me.

Granted, I'm hopeful for a Beta 9 that fixes it today :)

Well... I'm guessing no beta 9 today. Usually it's up by this time in the day. Tomorrow is 7 days, so hopefully tomorrow!

Although if anyone has any tips for me about why Beta 6 isn't installing on top of Beta 8, but instead I stay on Beta 8 when I install the installer, I would love to hear them!
