Is it advisable to install the beta firmware on an unlocked iPhone?

I guess I could stick with the Simulator...

I wouldn't fenrus. ;)

Also, you need to log in to the dev center to access the link, still.

You can just skip a page to get to the link, though. (That's about 30 minutes less waiting time. :D)

Now downloading at 25/30kB/s. This is gonna be a long night - oh yeah, night, awesome. Heh. :p

If you're a registered paid dev, you have to accept the new TOS and only then can you get the download. So the direct link isn't even much use to anybody I don't think.

I was just able to get in and downloading at a steady 2.2 MB/sec according to Firefox. 16 minutes left... about 1.7GB to go. It's 2.1GB total.

Edit: Oh wait that's the 3.0 SDK... :)

I finally got my downloads going. The phone update is done and installing now. Couldn't figure out how to do it at first. You open the ipsw file in iTunes and do a restore. The SDK will be done downloading in 10 minutes.

Since 3.0 makes it so you can't revert to 2.2.1... and I only have one phone (mine!) what do people do? Just go with it and still hope they can use it as their phone? If I buy another phone don't they both need to be activated and then I'd have to pay for 2 cell services?

Got my 3.0 installed :)

Anyone have any luck with MMS? I had a friend send me one, still got the stupid viewmymessage.com thing (I am guessing AT&T's fault). I can't seem to send any though. It just hangs at the end of the progress bar. Ah well, its a beta OS.

Back to fiddling with it.

How are you guys getting it so quick?

I usually get downloads of 800-900kB/s so how come I am only getting 30?

I just presumed it was a problem on Apple's side.. Guess not..

Hmm, maybe because I'm in the UK, and I've got people 'competing' with me because we want to leave it to download overnight?

I just keep getting HTTP/1.1 Service Unavailable

I just sat there and hit refresh until I saw the download fire into my list... Servers are bogged down by the thousands of developers, and thousands of new people who want to join the program to get the new OS...

I don't think the new people should have been allowed on today make them wait till tomorrow not that it would have mattered that much but it would have been nice perk for the developers who have been around since 2.0

You're not the only one to report this.

I think maybe it's not enabled by AT&T or something.

I'm doing Maps and Local network stuff first. What sucks is we have to wait a few months to release anything with these features, I guess that gives me plenty of time to create a really polished app.

Can I not create iPhone 2.2.1 apps with this? If I can ONLY create 3.0 apps them I am going to have to hold off on installing the Beta. DAMN.

I know we can't test 2.2.1 apps on the device but can we use our old apps on 3.0 the ones we have bought?

You can create 2.2.1 apps you just can't test them on the phone ... i think

Stuck with 3.0 after upgrading?

I have finally gotten through to the ADC website and I started to download the new firmware. It looks like though you might not be able to downgrade, here is a quote from the PreInstall advisory:

By installing iPhone OS 3.0
beta software on your Authorized Test Devices, these Devices are permanently
“locked” into testing mode and cannot be restored to earlier versions of iPhone
OS.
