yeah, i saw that. it doesnt have proper gaussian blur, nor animations, nor physics.

by you saying those two look the same, i can only conclude that you dont have the appreciation for the little things, both looks and feel of the os, hence you're unable to see why ios is, well, ios.

in short, android looks and feels like crap. why? because google just doesnt care. it serves a purpose, like windows.

to me, you're blind.

when they change the overall look of the system and built in apps, change both the animation system and animations themselves, when they incorporate art properly, even physics, then we can talk. until then, take a hike

I'd rather have root access than all that fluff but to each their own :D

What a troll thread this is.

How so? I posed this same question on another board and quite a few Android fan boys actually conceded that an iPhone might be better in the long run. That is quite a concession coming from Android fan boys.

I didn't mean you, meant the recent responses previous to my post
FWIW I'd pick iphone 5s over unrooted, touchwiz GS4

I got ya! What about iPhone 5s over stock Android (or close to stock Android)? I'm sort of digging the Droid Maxx. Price just dropped to $99! It's near stock build of Android is very intriguing.

I would pick neither the S4 nor the iPhone. With the 2014 generation upon us, both are a outdated devices.

Unless you're going to Verizon, I'd get a Nexus 5 or an iPhone 5s. The HTC One is nice too, but the camera sucks.

I do have Verizon. Just can't imagine holding onto a 4 inch screen for 2 more years.

Eh, I guess the N5 isn't an option then.

If you want a larger screen, a lot of people do like the GS4. It may be the phone for you. Alternatively, the HTC one is actually pretty nice(as long as you don't care about how poor the camera is).

Lol. Asking this on an iphone forum. Either is ok.

He is on the right part of the forum to ask this and has every right to do so.

I think the iPhone might be your best bet OP, my dad bought the S4 and didn't want anything else...for the first 6 months. Then he was always asking me when I bought the new 5S if he could have my 5 because he couldn't take it anymore with the S4.

LOL, yeah those 1080 screens are sooo last year!

The screen is just one part of the equation. The S4 has an older
generation processor . By all accounts, the latest Snapdragon is a leap ahead of the S4 processor - better battery, better performance. If I were you, I wouldn't want to be spending good money on the S4.

But the next iPhone is probably not coming out for another 7 months of so.

Considering that you get rows of icons with any iPhone you buy, it really doesn't matter.

The snapdragon 600 may be older but it's still very capable. My note 3 has the snapdragon 800 and to be honest in day to day tasks there isn't really much difference in performance between my note 3 and my boyfriend's S4.

i would agree…….the S4 is a great phone! But at this point with the S5 coming in a few weeks. I would wait for the S5 the upgrades will be worth the wait.

I would be unfortunately, I don't have that long to wait. I basically have 6 days to make a decision. I signed up w/ VWZ last friday and you have 14 days to settle in. I don't need the latest and greatest. Just something that will be dependable for the next 2 years. I think the S4 fits the bill.

Given your situation….i think you will love the S4. If you are so inclined…..there are some awesome Roms that bring out the hardware potential of the S4.
Good luck! :)

5s camera is hard to beat. You do know that Samsung phones drop in price by the month, the Note 3 started off over $900 here and now can be bought for $650, if you are not worried about the phone value ok?

This might have already been discussed, but why not the LG G2? Or the Note 3? To me, those are better 2 year bets.

By you saying that those two look exactly the same, i can come to a conclusion that you dont pay attention to details, which means you cant understand what makes ios, well, ios

Android is ugly. By that i mean both looks and feel. You cant change that with a theme... The same way you cant make windows 7 mavericks with a theme of icons

Really?

We are in a thread about which devices age better and you bring up details older device don't get or have to be turned off so they run right?

Besides how accurate did you expect iOS 7 on Android to be? It was released on Android before iOS 7 was officially released on the iPhone. Lol

Obviously this is a subjective topic.

I turned all those "features" off because I felt they were childish. App icons zooming in and out, bubbles everywhere, etc. Just felt like a toy not a tool. And the terrible app design (Apples changing them in 7.1 sorry).

Looks a little better without the blur IMO.

Let me ask you something. With iOS 7.1 some details are different, icons have been revamped, native app have some mild redesigning, etc. Now will you think that's ugly since you find iOS so beautiful now? Or is it ok since it's Apple doing it?

I think the 2nd best looking phone that came out in the 2013 is the gold iPhone 5s behind only the glacial silver HTC One. I notice my BlinkFeed news sources loves to always highlight a picture of either phones. I just prefer HTC One more because the design seems fresher and I generally prefer Android over iOS7. I believe 2013 was the first year where Apple didn't have the best design for a phone and it had a number of quality Android phones to compete with. I'm also not a fan of the headphone port in the bottom. Apple should bring it back on top like what LG did to the Nexus line after Samsung put the headphone port on the bottom. I do like the chrome bezels on both sides for the One & 5/5s.

I would usually pick a black iPhone over any white counterpart. And yes, the space grey does look great as it doesn't show scruff marks. But the gold iPhone 5s fits iOS7's mostly white backgrounds better. And having a white background does save battery consumption on an IPS display similar to a black one on AMOLED. Maybe someday, I would pick up a gold iPhone 5s for cheap as that will likely be the last generation iPhone to be considered compact. A 4.8 inch screen will still add more width even if Apple decreased the bezels from the top and bottom to lessen the height. I say the iPhone 6 will have comparable dimensions to a Galaxy S3, Nexus 4, or Huawei Ascend P6.

The recent black edition of the Samsung Galaxy S4 looks the best for that model. Has the same faux leather back found from the Note 3. If I had to choose long term and flexibility/practicality, it would be that black version of the S4 but a Google Play Edition. Can't stand carrier branding/bloatware or TouchWiz.

The Note 3 is just too big for me and the G2 had a poor external speaker, something that is important to me. I'm also not keen on the rear button placement on the G2 Just seems awkward to me.

I'm also now entertaining the idea of the Droid Maxx too. Both seem to have great features and specs.

Both are great phones, no argument there. I have the S4 on Verizon and while it has been a great device the whole locked bootloader on Verizon really ruined my experience with this phone. I know those of us that actually root and install custom roms are in the minority but I was looking forward to getting the most out of this device. With a locked bootloader that's not going to happen. Touchwiz is a hot sloppy mess of a skin that takes up a ton of storage room, my personal opinion of course. I would say if you can afford it buy a phone off contract or get a Google Play Edition since you are on Verizon.
